MIGUEL COTTO READY FOR WORLD TITLE DEFENSE ON APRIL 12

World champion Miguel Cotto said yesterday “…I hope Alfonso Gomez brings his A-game because I’ll be more than 100% prepared on April 12.”

Cotto, at a press conference in New York, has already begun training. He had two assistant trainers with him while in New York.

Cotto will defend his WBA Welterweight title against Gomez who is promoted by Jeff Wald of The Contenders.

“I’ve waited 17 years — that’s how long I’ve been boxing — to get an opportunity to fight for a world title,” Gomez said. “Cotto is a great champion but he’s made his millions of dollars. I’m more hungry. He’s a great champion and he hits hard, but my hunger to win will be the difference.”

Cotto vs. Gomez and Kermit Cintron vs. Antonio Margarito is scheduled April 12 at the historic Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City and will be broadcast on HBO.
