Interim Title fight for Adrian Diaconu

Montreal, Friday February 22st 2008 – Montreal based Light Heavyweight sensation Adrian “The Shark” Diaconu (24-0-0, 15 KO), rated #1 by the WBC, is set to battle against WBC #3 rated Chris Henry (21-0-0, 17 KO’s) for the WBC Interim World Light Heavyweight title on Saturday, March 29th 2008 in Buchares Romania. The bout and event will be promoted by Gankor Promotions..

This intriguing bout, which will take place in Diaconu’s home Country, pits two undefeated fighters hungry for a shot at Chad Dawson’s WBC title. Adrian Diaconu was originally scheduled to fight Chad Dawson for the WBC crown on September 29th 2008 in Sacramento, California following a 3-round massacre of Rico Hoye last May 9th 2007 at Studio Mel’s in Montreal. Unfortunately, Diaconu had to pull out of the fight due to a hand injury. Chad Dawson has been avoiding Adrian Diaconu ever since.

After months of negotiations, the WBC sanctioned a fight between Chad Dawson and Glen Johnson on April 12th but has already confirmed in writing that the winner of that bout must immediately fight the winner of the March 29th 2008

WBC Interim title bout between Adrian Diaconu and Chris Henry.

Both boxers know full well the magnitude of what is at stake. The winner is next in line against the Dawson/Johnson winner. The loser will have to rebuild his career from scratch.

Proud to fight in his Country

Diaconu is very excited to fight for the WBC Interim title in front of his Countrymen. “I am very happy and honored to be fighting for a major title in Romania. This is excellent news for me. I have been training hard since before the holidays, and I will be very well prepared for Chris Henry. My dream since I was a boy was to win a world title, and I can’t wait to accomplish my dream in Romania on March 29th”.
