Mesi vs Pedro on June 2

L’Auberge du Lac Hotel and Casino and Bayou Promotions, LLC are excited to announce “Boxing at L’Auberge” on June 2, 2007 at 7:30pm, which will be the first boxing event at Louisiana premier gaming facility located in Lake Charles, Louisiana. L’Auberge is located approximately two hours east of Houston, Texas. Jimbo Stevenson of Bayou Promotions said that L’Auberge is keeping its tradition of top flight entertainment and has pulled out all the stops to bring in a great show. “Baby” Joe Mesi (35-0, 28KO’s) will be in the main event against Rafael Pedro (20-5-1, 14KO’s) in a WBC United States heavyweight title fight..

Mesi was formally the number one contender in the world until an injury sidelined his career. He is on a mission to regain that position and become world champion. Joe is currently ranked 29 in the world by the WBC. However, the 6’5 240lb Pedro, who is now trained by former two time world champion and Olympic gold medalist Kennedy McKinney, is looking to block Joe’s path back into the top ten.

The co-main event features the pioneer of women’s boxing and future hall of famer, Christy Martin, (46-5-2, 31KO’s) of Orlando, Florida against Amy “Scrap Iron” Yuratovac (5-0, 5KO’s) of Hammond, Indiana. Christy, who is known as the “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and originally hailed from Bluefield, West Virginia is a former world champion who has fought on HBO and is the only female boxer to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated. Christy is ranked number three in the world in the welterweight division and Yuratovac is ranked tenth by the WBC. This fight would be a main event at most venues and is worthy of a world title sanction.

The undercard will showcase some up and coming boxers from Houston and southwest Louisiana, including Lake Charles heavyweight Johnnie White (14-0, 13KO’s).

Tickets are on sale now at L’Auberge Business Center from 9:00am to 6:00pm or by calling 1-337-395-7569 or online at www.ldlcasino.com.
