Euro Boxing Roundup: Gianfranco Knocked Out by Robert Roselia

22.10.06 – By Per Ake Persson: Italian veteran and former world champ, 49-year old Gianfranco Rosi suffered a bad knockout loss to Frenchman Robert Roselia on October 20 in San Marino in a IBF I/C titlefight. Rosi is now recuperating in hospital. The police in San Marino are investigating the fight as Rosi complained about Roselia´s gloves and stated to media that there must have been something wrong with them. IBF supervisor Benedetto Montella states however that were no wrong doings:

“I checked the bandages before the bout with one of the judges and referee Alfredo Asaro checked the gloves and everything was allright. What happend to Rosi have nothing to do with tampered gloves or his age, he was ahead on points after ten but walked into a counterpunch and went down hard hitting his head against one of the ropes and that was the problem.”

World Sporting Promotions have an interesting program lined up for the “Monte Carlo Boxe Masters III” November 4 in Monte Carlo. On top Israeli heavy Roman Greenberg defends the IBO Int´l title against Russian Alexei Varakin. French jr middle Christophe Canclaux takes on Hungarian Laszlo Buranyi and as already reported Union Boxing Team of Donetsk bring in supermiddle Stas Kashtanov, welter Vyacheslav Senchenko and lightweight Andrei Kudriatsev.

“Journeyman – the Bruce Ozbeck story” can during the fall be seen at movies around Germany. Bruce Ozbeck was at one time a world class kickboxer, who made his prodebut back in 99. At that stage he was a good and even dangerous opponent, who was a big hit with the crowds with his bad guy image. Today, the 40+ Ozbeck is very much over the hill but still plugs away. Last time out he was stopped in three October 14 in Bosnia-Hercegovina against comebacking Alexander Petkovic, who retired earlier year after losing to Kamel Amrane. Petkovic have since trained fighters at his gym in Munich.

German heavy Manuel Charr have been in custody since early September in regards of a streetfight in Berlin that saw one man stabbed several times. The police have investigated the case that involves several other boxers and now also arrested Alexander Abraham, the younger brother of IBF middle champ Arthur Abraham. What exactly happend appears to be up to who you talk to.

Ukrainian jr middle Roman Dzuman retained the GBU title with a unanimous points win over Argentinian Juan Manuel Alaggio October 19 in Lvov. Welter Viktor Plotnikov won a sixth round disqualification over Latvian Jurijs Boreiko on the undercard.
