Euro Boxing Roundup: Q and A with Nuri Seferi

28.09.06 – By Per Ake Persson: 29-year old Swiss-Albanian cruiser and sometimes heavyweight Nuri Seferi, 16-5-1, is a stocky, tough fighter, who´s made of himself in European rings taking on all comers, winning most fights, losing some, but always giving his all. Through his manager Jack Schmidli, I was able to get in touch with Nuri for a short interview:

Q: When is your next fight?

A: Well, I got injured in my last fight (w tko 3 Florin Chidici) and won´t be ready until December so I can´t really say when and where I fight next.

Q: What do you say about your fight against Marco Huck?

A: It was one of my toughest fights, I wasn´t in topshape because I had fought Nikolay Popov just four weeks before and gone twelve rounds. Had I been at my best I´m sure I could have beaten Huck.

Q: You fight at both cruiser and heavyweight, which is your best fighting weight?

A: My best weight is at cruiser, I don´t want to fight at heavyweight anymore.

Q: Which is your best fight up to now?

A: That was against Nicolay Popov. (L 12 for the WBO A-title)

Q: I understand you have Albanian background, for how long have you been in Switzerland?

A: I have been in Switzerland for 13 years.

Q: How big is boxing in Switzerland, is it difficult to get fights?

A: Boxing is not the favourite sport for sports fan here but with my new manager I get enough fights, but the opponents are usually from abroad or I have to go abroad to get fights.

Q: What did you do as an amateur?

A: I went 10-0 with ten knockouts.

Q: Is boxing a fulltime job for you or what do you do on the side?

A: No, boxing is not a fulltime job, I work in the security industry as well.

Q: Are you married? Kids? What do you like to do outside of boxing?

A: I´m not married, but I have girlfriend, Aida, and I love her very much. Outside of boxing I love meeting people and fast cars, I am the proud owner of a Corvette.

Q: What is your goal in boxing? Who would be your favourite opponent?

A: My goal is to become a world champ, the name of the opponent doesn´t matter. Right now I would very much like to fight Marco Huck again.

Q: I understand there is a resurrection of boxing Albania, have there been talks of you fighting in there?

A: My compatriots are very interested in me, when I fought my last fight (in Montreux), there were people coming in from Albania and Albanians living abroad as well. I intend to fight back home in the near future.
