WEST COAST, U.S.A (July 27, 2006) — WEST COAST, U.S.A (July 27, 2006) — Gary Shaw Productions kicks off the first of two consecutive weekends of back-to-back nationally televised boxing events Tomorrow! Friday, July 28. GSP begins its TV road tour with the opening round of the super middleweight tournament, televised live on Showtime’s “ShoBox: The Next Generation,” beginning at 11 P.M. ET/PT from the PFTC Sports Center of Las Vegas.. The survivor of the eight-man, single elimination tournament will become the International Boxing Organization’s super middleweight champion. Friday’s 10-round match-ups will feature Jean Paul Mendy, (21-0, 11 KOs), against Dallas Green, (21-2, 15 KOs), and Henry Buchanan, (13-0, 11 KOs), against Lucas Arias, (11-0, 8 KOs).
The following night, GSP presents an exciting night of boxing on HBO’s “Boxing After Dark,” live from the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, CA, beginning at 10:30 P.M. ET/PT. Former world champions Vivian Harris, (26-2-1, 17 KOs), and Stevie Johnston, (39-3-1, 18 KOs), currently world-rated No. 6 and No. 7 by the WBC, respectively, meet in a 10-round jr. welterweight rumble with the winner returning to world title contention. The co-main event will feature top-five contender Joshua Clottey, (28-1, 18 KOs), against undefeated Richard Gutierrez, (19-0, 12 KOs), battling 12-rounds for the IBF International welterweight title.
For mere mortal promoters, one weekend of wall-to-wall action would be enough, but for Shaw, it is only the beginning!
GSP returns to the scene of the crime — the PFTC Sports Center of Las Vegas — the following Friday, August 4, for the two remaining opening round bouts of the super middleweight tournament, again televised live on “ShoBox,” beginning at 11 P.M ET/PT. This time the 10-round battles will feature Anthony Hanshaw (19-0, 13 KOs), against Esteban Camou, (18-1, 15 KOs), and Saiko Bika, (20-1-2, 14 KOs), against Jose Luis Herrera, (14-1, 14 KOs).
The road trip ends the next night in spectacular fashion, Saturday, August 5 at the MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa in Lake Tahoe, NV. GSP presents TWO world title fights featuring the marvelous Marquez brothers, televised live on Showtime Championship Boxing, beginning at 9 P.M. ET/PT. IBF/IBO bantamweight champion Rafael Marquez, (35-3, 31 KOs), opens the broadcast defending his titles against No. 1 contender Silence Mabuza, (19-1, 15 KOs), in a rematch of their exciting world title unification slugfest from last November. Former WBA/IBF featherweight champion and current WBO No. 2 contender Juan Manuel Marquez, (44-3-1, 33 KOs), goes mano-a-mano against WBO-No. 1 contender Terdsak Jandaeng, (24-1, 15 KOs), for the WBO interim featherweight title.
How will Shaw ever top that schedule? You’ll find out in October when the winners of the July 28 and August 4 opening round bouts of the super middleweight tournament meet in the semifinals, which will be televised live on “ShoBox,” Friday, October 6. GSP comes roaring back the next night, with the world title rubbermatch between WBC lightweight champion Diego Corrales defending his crown against former world champion Joel Casamayor, Saturday, October 7, televised live on Showtime Championship Boxing.
