(Press Release: Denver, Co, July 3rd, 2006) ESPN Wednesday Night Fights scheduled for July 5th will provide fight fans more fireworks following our nations Independence day. As of now, the card is set and barring any last minute setbacks, we should be in for an exciting night of action. In the main event, a main event that has saw three opponents come and go, Neil Sinclair of Belfast, North Ireland will return to the ring after a year layoff..
Sinclair has a record of 28-4 with 23 ko’s yet all of his fights have been in Europe and he is unknown to the american public. The only name that stands out on his record is Puerto Rican and former WBO Light Middleweight Titlest Daniel Santos. Sinclair was stopped in the second round of that bout.
Sinclair’s opponent will now be Jerome Ellis of Nassau, Bahamas, 10-4-1 with 9 ko’s. Sinclair was scheduled to fight Jesse Feliciano when the card was first announced. Feliciano was replaced by Jeses Soto-Karass when Feliciano substained an injury in camp. Soto-Karass was then replaced by Antonio Mesquita when Soto-Karass was appearently injured as well. But Mesquita had already been under contract to fight on August 11 in Ogden, UT. So now Ellis will get the chance to battle Sinclair. Ellis is coming in off a 1st round knock-out of previsiouly undefeated fighter Felix Cepeda in May. Ellis may prove to be tougher then expected as he has been in the ring with WBC Latino Welterweight Irving Garcia and rising Welterweight Prospect Anthony “The Messengner” Thompson. Look for this fight to end before the final bell as both fighter combine for 32 ko’s in 38 wins.
In the co-main, David “Sctrictly Business” Medina, 10-1 5ko’s, will vie for the WBC United States Jr. Middleweight Title. Medina is the current GBU Middleweight Champ and is coming off his first defense against the rugged Manny Castillo in May. Medina used a knockdown and a strong effort down the strech to win a unanimouis decision in that contest. Medina is currently riding a 10 fight winning streak since losing his debut to Donnie McCrary, the same Donny McCrary that almost knocked out Super Middleweight Contender, Allen Green. Medina will Square off against Escondido’s, Ca, Charles Blake, 8-6-1 3ko’s. Don’t let Blake’s record fool you, 4 of his 6 loses have come at the hands of Contenders Ishe Smith and Sergio Mora, and 2 defeats to Middleweigth Prospect David Banks. Blake will provide the oppurtunity for Medina to prove that he can be a player in either the Jr. Middleweigth or Middleweight division. Medina adds, “This a great oppoturnity to show my skills on national tv, after this win we’ll keep fighting our way into the top 10. I dedicate this fight to my family and fans who support me so much”.
Scheduled for a swing bout, GBU Jr. Welterweight Prospect Marvin Cordova will square against the dangerous, TBA. As of now, there are a few opponents being looked at but a final decision probably won’t come until Monday night. Cordova is 10-0 6ko’s.
Female miniumweight prospect Chantel Cordova will be in action as well, 3-0 2ko’s. She will likely face Unity Young again as a suitable opponent was unable to be found. Cordova and Young debuted against each other earlier this year, Cordova came away with a 1st round TKO. Cordova is coming in off a four round unanimous decision win against the game Dawn Parker of Orlando, Fl. Parker was 0-3, but all three loses came at the hands of Valerie Rix, who just ko’d promising prospect Christina Kwan in :45 seconds.
Super Middleweight prospect Carlso De Leon Jr. will make his Jewboy Promotions debut in a six rounder. De Leon, 13-1-2 10ko’s, is coming in off a draw with Ted Muller in December of 05′. The Puerto Rican will do battle with Oscar Montono of Phoenix, Az, 2-5-1 1ko. Montono is coming in off a 6 round unanimous decision loss to the once beaten Philly Fighter, Gee Edward Cullmer. Montono is also the former Arizona State Kickboxing champ at 175lbs. Zef Ramerez is excited to add De Leon Jr to his stable and predicts a bright future for the tough Puerto Rican.
And bantemweight Torrence Daniels will round out the card against Randy Ortega. Daniels was an Olympic alternate for the 2004 games and has complied a record 5-2-1 as a pro. Daniels is coming in off a loss to Golden Boy prospect Johathen Oquendo in May. The fight will take place at 126lbs, 8 pounds above Daniels fighting weight. Ortega, who is 0-3, usually fights at 135lbs and will have a big advantage in the size department. Daniles will be fighting in his adopted home though as he has been living in Colorado Springs for many years while in the Armed Forces.
Weigh-ins will be held Tuesday 1:00 pm, July 4th at the Comfort Inn-Lobby located: 1410 Harrison road Colorado Springs. Co. Press and fans are welcome to attend.
