Q & A with Allan “Sweetness” Green

26.04.06 – Interview by Ike Enwereuzor, photo by Tom Casino / Showtime

Ike: What do you know about your next opponent for April 26, Donnie McCrary?

Green: Its funny you ask that question. I used Donnie McCrary for preparation for the Jaidon fight. He is a good boxer with fast hands. He can make you look bad he has a defensive style. He got robbed 3 fights ago against Walid Smichet 14-1, he got a draw in this guys hometown and country.

Ike: How is training coming along for this fight?

Green: My training is going great. I had veteran Atwun Echols (31-6) and Ray Smith (4-0) for sparring. I make weight easy due to a clean lifestyle. Alot of fighters drink, smoke and dont diet. Their vices makes my job easier.

Ike: You have been challenging all the Super Middlewights including Lolenga Mock who fights Lucian Bute in Canada May 16, 2006. Your thoughts about that fight?

Green: I have seen Bute fight, Im not impressed… he is a volume puncher that Spearman was schooling before he hit him after the bell. Mock is a guy I never seen fight. I think he just wants a payday thats why he keeps challenging everyone. Personally I dont see any value in this fight.

Ike: Your impression of the Super Middleweight champions, Joe Calzaghe, Mikkel Kessler and Markus Beyer?

Green: They all are ordinary to me. I called the Calzaghe vs Lacy fight. I never really saw Kessler, but hear he good. Ironically, Beyer is crafty but amatuerish too me.

Ike: Describe your fight with Jaidon Codrington?

Green: Explosive, the real Allan Green. In that fight you saw a guy that was underrated due to geographics silence critics.

Ike: What do you remember most from these fights with Conal MacPhee and Ola Afolabi?

Green: McPhee was supposed to be a step up fight. He tried to intimidate me but in the end he wasnt on my level. But hey, who is? Afolabi …now that was a crafty and well schooled fighter. I tell Cruiserweights I know to stay away from that guy. When he beat Orlin Norris – I wasnt suprised.

Ike: Did you learn from your fight with Etienne Whitaker?

Green: I learn from every fight. But, that fight in particular I learned I really could hurt someone. I came right at him.

Ike: How did you get the name “Sweetness”?

Green: I got that name from my idol and former promoter Sugar Ray Leonard. After one of my clinical bouts he said “That was sweetness”. I was nicknamed the “True Dream” at the time.

Ike: Any comment to your fans?

Green: Thanks for your support, I will be Champ soon and drop me a line anytime on MySpace.com, I’m also on this website alot as well.
