28.01.06 – By Ike Enwereuzor: Mikkel “The Viking Warrior” Kessler stopped former world Champion Eric Lucas in his most recent fight January 14, he is the World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Middleweight Champion with an unbeaten record of 37-0 (28 KO’s). Kessler is currently in USA to support his stable mate, Thomas Damgaard, who faces former world champion Arturo Gatti tonight in Atlantic City, NJ. Here is what the WBA Super Middleweight had to say about his last fight and his future plans….

Ike: How is your stay here in USA?

Kessler: I love the US. I’ll like to fight here again. I only had one fight in USA March 2000. We hope we can get some deal going. My first fight in US, I had only about 15 or 16 fights then, I knocked out Israel Ponce in round 2.

Ike: Please, tell us about your fight with former world champion Eric Lucas?

Kessler: Eric Lucas is good fighter and that was a good fight for me. I had things under control and stopped him in round 10.

Ike: How would you describe your fight with Thobela in Nov. 2002?

Kessler: That fight was for the IBA Super Middleweight belt. That was a very tough fight for me but I prevailed in that fight.

Ike: What’s your prediction for the Gatti-Damgaard fight tonight?

Kessler: Thomas Damgaard is undefeated but this is not going to be an easy fight. Gatti is a warrior. Tough fight for Thomas, but I know he can pull it off.

Ike: Your take on Calzaghe-Lacy?

Kessler: I like both fighters, I respect these champions including Markus Beyer. I don’t know who will win that fight but I’ll like to fight the winner of that fight.

Ike: What’s your impression of Lolenga Mock, who’s in your weight class and fights out of Denmark?

Kessler: I know Mock, I think he’s ranked No.5 by WBA. I was at the fight when he fought former champion Charles Brewer. He’s good and one of those fighters who’s improving in every fight. He maybe fighting Lucian Bute in March. I hope to see him in a big fight too.

Ike: Your thoughts of Rudy Markussen?

Kessler: He’s fighting in Atlantic City on January 28. He’s a very good fighter and hard hitter. If he tries to take my title, I’ll be ready for him.

Ike: What do you want to tell your fans around the world.

Kessler: I want to tell the Boxing fans to keep watching me because I’m the best in the division and the world. I’m known all over Denmark and Europe.
