26.08.05 – British Welterweight Champion Michael Jennings is used to hunting down opponents in the ring and lives up to his nickname of the ‘Lurcher’ for his love of hare coursing. Surprisingly, Jennings now finds himself the hunted after Welsh dangerman Bradley Pryce has promised to stalk the unbeaten Chorley star and take his title on Tuesday 25 October at the Preston Guild Hall..
Sports Network’s show titled “Has The Hunter Become The Hunted?” will be televised live on ITV and has the potential to be a classic domestic dust-up.
Pryce finds himself at the crossroads of his career and this will be his last attempt to become a major player in the welterweight division which is why he will be at his most dangerous.
“This is an all or nothing fight for me,” said the Newbridge slugger.
He continued, “Everything is on the line so I’m fired up to go straight for Jennings and will hunt him down right from the first bell and won’t stop until I’ve KO’d him,”
“He looks great when he’s tapping away with the jab and when he’s given room to box but he won’t get that from me,”
“It will be constant pressure like he’s never experienced before,”
The 24-year-old has excited fans with all-action style and his wars against Gavin Down in February 2002, which was nominated 2002 Fight of the Year by trade paper Boxing News, and Neil Sinclair – his first attempt at the British Welterweight title – in February 2003 are an indication of what Jennings can expect.
More recently Pryce, the current Welsh champion, ended the unbeaten records of rising Russian stars Sergei Stepkin and Ivan Kirpa.
“I’m at my most dangerous when the pressure is on for me to perform and the heat is on me for this fight but I know I can knock Jennings out,” finished Pryce.
In contrast, Jenning’s is relaxed and confident about making the first defence of his title that he won with a sensational first round victory over teak-tough Birmingham veteran Jimmy Vincent in July.
“I’ve no doubts that Pryce will do anything else but come and hunt me down but I will tear him apart if he does,” said Jennings calmly.
The 27-year-old continued, “Pryce is a tough fighter who wants to turn every fight into a war every time he boxes so I’m not expecting anything else from him,”
” I don’t think he could walk past a mirror without having fight – the guys a nutter,”
Jennings has consistently improved with each fight whilst maintaining his unbeaten 27-fight record and is recognised as the #10 Sportinglife.com domestic best pound-for-pound fighter.
He added, “Whatever he wants to do on the night I will be prepared for and if it’s a war he’s after then he’s playing into my hands,”
“My confidence is sky-high following my win over Vincent and I’m raring to go for Pryce right now but my trainer Bryan Hughes is having to hold me back,”
“I can’t wait until the 25th October to finish Pryce once and for all.”
The undercard features a top class line up including Manchester’s Matthew Hall, Nottingham’s Ricardo Samms, Liverpool trio Paul Smith, Derry Matthews and Tony Quigley and the Sports Network debut of “Kid” Kell Brook.
