Alex Arthur European Title Delay

20.06.05 – Alex Arthur’s historic attempt at the European Super-Featherweight title has been rescheduled for Saturday 23 July at Edinburgh’s Meadowbank Stadium. Arthur was due to face the champion Boris Sinitsin on Saturday 9 July but show promoters Sports Network felt that due to the G8 Summit taking place in Perthshire and the expected knock-on effect from this in the Capital that it was best to post-pone the show for two weeks in order to maximise the profile of the fight..

Amazin’ Alex, the British and Commonwealth Champion, is not disappointed about the delay though and believes it will make him even hungrier to become the first boxer to win a European title in Edinburgh for 77 years.

He said, “I faced a similar situation when my fight against Craig Docherty was delayed by four weeks but that only gave me more time to prepare and made me even meaner and look what I did to him,”

“My preparations for this fight have been superb and I couldn’t be happier. The delay hasn’t bothered me and I think it’s great to have an extra two weeks to prepare considering the magnitude and importance of this fight,”

“It also means Sinitsin has been out of action in the ring for longer which will only work to my advantage. All I can see is that Sinitsin will get a worse beating than he would have got two weeks earlier,”

“Nothing will stop me winning the European crown to add to my British and Commonwealth belts to become the first Scottish boxer to hold all three titles since the legendary Jackie Patterson in 1946.”

Please note that the tickets for the original date of July 9 will remain valid for the rescheduled date of July 23.
