19.06.05 – NER promotions has appointed veteran Mark Vaz as Vice President of Boxing Operations, NER president Rick Brutti announced today. Vaz has extensive experience in boxing, starting as an amateur boxer and including trainer, manager, site coordinator and cutman. In addition to serving as Glen Johnson’s cutman and Carl Daniels’ co-manager, Vaz was Jermain Taylor’s manager for the middleweight contender’s first three years as a pro..
“We’re excited to have Mark on board at NER,” Brutti said. “Mark’s experience adds a lot of credibility to our company. His professionalism and personality will help take us to the next level. With Mark and the team we’re building, NER is better positioned to not only promote fights in New England, but across the country and around the world as well.”
Vaz, who lives in Plymouth (MA), also has been involved with Hector Camacho, Sr., Boris Powell, Razor Ruddock, Frankie Randall, Vince Phillips, Livingstone Bramble, Tiger Jones, Mike Culbert and Peter McNeeley.
“I’m trying to get the NER machine rolling,” Vaz noted. “It’s a good group with Danny Sheehan matchmaking and Billy Skog helping as site coordinator. Organizationally, I want to help NER to become efficient as a group so we can strategically expand to other markets in the country.”
NER promotions also announced the signing of All-Africa & Namibian welterweight champion Bethuel “Tyson” Usona (11-0, 4 KOs) and 2004 Namibian Olympian, featherweight Joe “Smoke” Germini (1-0, 1 KO). Both fighters are now living in Worcester (MA).
NER promotions is presenting “Plymouth Rocks,” headlined by the USBA light heavyweight title fight between George Khalid Jones and “Fabulous” Freddy Moore, July 1 on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights from Memorial Hall in historic Plymouth, Massachusetts. Usona and Germini are scheduled to make their NER debuts on this show.
