Don King to Announce Blockbuster Event on Thursday

13.06.05 – Promoter Don King has announced that tickets will go on sale Tuesday at 1 p.m. for his next boxing extravaganza at the United Center on Aug. 13 featuring a showdown for the World Boxing Council interim heavyweight championship that pits former WBC and International Boxing Council heavyweight champion and current WBC No. 1-ranked contender Hasim “The Rock” Rahman and WBC No. 2-ranked contender Monte “Two Gunz” Barrett..

King has already added a special heavyweight attraction to the card dubbed “The Polish Fight of the Century” with Andrew “Powerful Pole” Golota taking on Przemyslaw “Chemek” Saleta.

Tickets priced at $25, $50, $100, $150, $250 and $400 can be purchased at the United Center Box Office, www.ticketmaster.com, and at all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets can also be charged by phone by calling (312) 559-1212. The event is being promoted by Don King Productions in association with the United Center.

“Chicago is my kind of town, my kind of people,” King said, “and the more than 20,000 people that attended our May 21 event told us they want to see world championship boxing live in person, so I’m going to give them an even bigger event on Aug. 13.”

King added: “I’m putting together all of the matches on the card this week, and I will announce a star-studded showcase of some of the biggest names in boxing at a press conference in Chicago on Thursday afternoon.”

Boxers King is currently considering from his huge stable of international world champions and leading contenders include one of the hottest boxers in the world today in undisputed world welterweight champion Zab “Super” Judah; Nicaraguan bomber and former unified welterweight champion Ricardo “El Matador” Mayorga; WBA super welterweight champion Alejandro “Terra” Garcia, who won a terrific fight during the great Don King event presented last month at United Center; hot Belarussian heavyweight Sergei Lyakovich; world top-ten-ranked heavyweight contender Owen “What the Heck” Beck; proud Puerto Rican and WBA welterweight champion Luis Collazo; former world champion and Mexican legend Miguel Angel Gonzalez; and former world heavyweight champion and Chicago’s own Oliver “The Atomic Bull” McCall.
