Quiles, Jauegui Battle for No. 1 Lightwt. Contender Spot June 16

HOLLYWOOD, FL, May 27 – Together they have over 30 years of experience in professional boxing and have fought some of the best fighters in the world. But on Thursday, June 16, at the Seminole Coconut Creek Casino in Coconut Creek, Florida, Number 2 and Number 5 ranked Lightweight contenders Ricky Quiles and Javier Jauregui will have the spotlight all to themselves when they square off in a 12 round IBF elimination bout to determine the mandatory challenger for the vacant IBF Lightweight Title..

“I’m thrilled that the IBF has recognized my accomplishments and ordered an elimination bout between Javier Jauregui and myself,” said Quiles. “Puerto Ricans and Mexicans have always put on spectacular fights against each other, and this fight will be no exception.”

This bout will headline an exciting night of world-class boxing presented by Warrior’s Boxing Promotions, Inc. in association with The Seminole Coconut Creek Casino and Golden Boy Promotions, LLC.

Doors open at 6:30pm and the first bell rings at 7:30pm.

Ricky “Showtime” Quiles (37-6-3, 8 KOs), a slick boxing southpaw out of Loraine, Ohio, is coming off the biggest victory of his almost 16-year career, an exciting 12 round decision win over highly regarded Edner Cherry on February 4. It was a satisfying win for the native of Ponce, Puerto Rico, a former NABO, WBF, NABA, and WBC Continental Americas champion who is riding an impressive four fight winning streak.

“My team and I are working hard in the gym every day, and we’re hungry for the World Championship,” said Quiles, who is currently ranked number two in the world by the IBF. “This is my year.”

Former IBF World Lightweight Champion Javier Jauregui (49-11-2, 34 KOs) has taken the road less traveled during his 17-year career. Hailing from Guadalajara, Mexico, “Chatito” turned pro at the age of 14, and he learned his craft the hard way, fighting men twice his age as he rose through the ranks. From scoring two stoppage victories over current lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo and winning the world title in a bout against Levander Johnson in 2003, to squaring off against the likes of world champions Acelino Freitas, Julio Diaz, and Agapito Sanchez, Jauregui is a hard-nosed warrior who always comes to fight.

An action-packed under card will be announced shortly.
