Glencoffe Johnson on NE Ringside radio Thursday night

BOSTON (January 17, 2005) – Consensus 2004 Fighter of the Year Glencoffe Johnson is this Thursday night’s (Jan. 20) special guest on the New England Ringside Boxing Radio Show live on WWZN 1510 The Zone in Boston..

The two-hour New England Ringside Boxing Radio Show – hosted by Ted Bodenrader, Anthony Pepe, Rick Brutti and Joe Bills — airs every Thursday night between 6-8 pm (ET) on The Zone: Boston’s Boxing Station at 1510 AM and also may be heard live on the Internet by going to www.newenglandringside.com.

No. 1 light heavyweight Johnson (42-9-2, 28 KOs) was unbeaten in 2004 with three high profile victories against opponents with an aggregate record of 106-6-1 (78 KOs): 12-round unanimous decision for the vacant IBF light heavyweight title against Clinton Woods (35-2-1), February 6, Shefield, England; ninth-round knockout of Roy Jones, Jr. (49-2) in his first IBF title defense, September 9, Memphis; 12-round split decision versus Antonio Tarver (22-2) for the vacant IBO light heavyweight championship, December 18, Los Angeles.

In 2004, Johnson became the “feel good” story of the year because of his upset wins against Jones and Tarver, as well as for being perceived as a gentleman with an engaging Jamaican accent, humble personality, and determination to rise from a journeyman with nine losses to The Ring’s light heavyweight champion.

Johnson lost three in a row between July 1997-August 1998, staring with an 11th round knockout loss to Bernard Hopkins for the IBF middleweight crown (Merqui Sosa & Joseph Kiwanuka), suffered four straight defeats from November 1999-June 2000 (Sven Ottke for IBF super middleweight championship, Syd Vanderpool, Silvio Branco for Omar Sheika), and consecutive set backs April 14 2002 (Derrick Harmon) and January 14 (Julio Cesar Gonzalez).

Johnson is unbeaten the last two years, winning four (Tarver, Jones, Woods and Eric Harding) with two draws (Daniel Judah & Woods).

New England Ringside also publishes a monthly magazine, hosts a popular web site, and owns Fightography (sells classic boxing pictures). For more information about New England Ringside call 603.525.3867 or go on line to www.newenglandringside.com.
