Daniel Cadman: Slick to stick

11.28.04 – For the time being at least, rising middleweight star Daniel Cadman will be keeping the nickname ‘Mr Slick’ following a poll conducted by his local newspaper the Cheshunt Mercury. Readers were asked whether the moniker – recommended by the Hennessy Sports promotional team – should stay or go ahead of Cadman’s win on the Hennessy Sports ‘Born To Do It’ promotion at the Wembley Conference Centre on November 12th.

The running was close, but the fighter’s fans said ‘Slick’ should stick.

“Great, that’s just great!” said Cadman on hearing the news. “I can’t believe I have to walk around calling myself that.

“I know for a fact that a load of my mates voted for the nickname to stay just to wind me up – so I want a stewards enquiry on this one!

“The vote was definitely rigged against me!

Unfortunately for the 24-year-old, another poll will not be conducted. The promotional team have, however, agreed on a compromise: the tag can go when Cadman wins his first title.

“Talk about carrot and stick,” he added. “But I guess fair is fair. I agreed to abide by the vote and at least this way I have a get out.

“I already have another nickname lined up! Several people suggested Daniel ‘The Bad Man’ Cadman. I quite like that!”

The Tony Sims trained fighter hopes to be challenging for that first belt some time next year.

Cadman continued: “Hopefully I will get a crack at least at an Area title in 2005. I have been professional for eighteen months now and feel that I am almost ready to move into Championship class.

“I have learned so much under Tony; my defence has improved beyond recognition, my range of shots has gone through the roof and I am punching much harder.

“I was disappointed that I didn’t get my third stoppage in a row last time out, but Howard Clarke is a wily, proven operator and very difficult to break down.

“I learnt a lot, so it was all positive, even though I got taken the distance for the first time this year.”
