September 24, LIVE from the Las Pulgas Club in Tijuana, Mexico. WBC FECARBOX featherweight champion GAMALIEL “PLATANO” DIAZ goes mano-a-mano against Mexican buzzsaw, SERGIO “CERO” SANCHEZ in the 10-round featherweight main event battle of Top-10 Mexican contenders.
Boxing fans from around the world can catch all the action via a live internet stream, and access the replay, at www.cmxsports.com for a monthly subscription fee of just $4.95. The series airs every Friday night, beginning at 11 P.M. ET / 8 P.M. PT. Subscribers will also be able to access archived fight footage and get behind-the-scenes interviews, previews and articles. The broadcasts will be available in English and Spanish. Former WBC welterweight champion and 2004 International Boxing Hall of Fam inductee, Carlos Palomino, will provide the color commentary to newly elected World Boxing Hall of Fame inductee, Colonel Bob Sheridan’s blow-by-blow, on the English feed of the broadcast, as well as in-ring post fight interviews on the English and Spanish broadcasts. Sheridan is a veteran of more than 750 world title fight broadcasts. The Spanish language feed of the broadcast features former NFL All-Pro kicker and veteran sports announcer Benny Ricardo and former five-time world champion Manuel Medina, doing the blow-by-blow and color, respectively. Boxing historian Bert Randolph Sugar, former editor of The Ring and Boxing Illustrated, and the author of more than 50 books, has signed on as CMXsports Senior Boxing Analyst At-Large, providing weekly columns to the CMXsports website and commentary to the broadcasts. A new Sugar column, “Sugar ‘N Spice,” runs on CMXsports.com every Friday.
Diaz, currently world-rated No. 17 by the WBC, is riding a three-year, 12-bout unbeaten streak — seven victories by knockout. Diaz captured the WBC FECARBOX title in February via a unanimous decision over Ismael Gonzales. He has successfully defended it twice this year, both by knockout en route to a career-high world rating as well as being Mexico’s No.1-rated contender.
Sanchez captured the Pacific featherweight title in 1999, a title he successfully defended twice. He returns to the ring fresh from a first-round knockout victory over Rafael Urias, which has propelled Sanchez to No. 10 in the Mexican featherweight ratings.
The seven-bout undercard will feature Luis “Chapito” Valdez, 12-3-1, (7 KOs), from Tijuana, Mexico, in a 10-round light flyweight rumble against Francisco Rosas, 13-4-1 (9 KOs), from Mexico City, Mexico. Valdez and Rosas are world-rated No. 5 and No. 13 by the WBC, respectively.
CMXsports and Guilty Boxing will produce 48 two-hour shows a year over a three-year period with two cards each month emanating from Las Vegas –The Orleans Hotel & Casino and the Gold Coast Hotel & Casino. The remaining two shows per month will be broadcast from different locations, including, southern California and Mexico. Recent shows have emanated from Las Pulgas Club in Tijuana, Mexico.
“CMX Boxeo de Campeones” will showcase the very best in action-packed Latin fights, a staple of Guilty Boxing shows over the past decade, as well as an extensive amount of high-quality features on boxing. CMXsports will complement the broadcast with the Internet’s capability to provide fans around-the-clock, behind-the-scenes information about the fighters before and after the show, and the state-of-the-art CMXlivecam, allowing fans unprecedented access to the fighters on a real-time basis.
