Not since Willie Pep, in the forties, has anyone dominated the featherweight division like Medina, 63-14 (29 KOs). Medina won his first world title, dethroning IBF featherweight champion Troy Dorsey, on August 12, 1991, six years and 44 bouts removed from his pro debut. His five world title reigns — three as IBF champion, and one each as WBC and WBO champion — have encompassed 20 world title bouts from 1991-2003. His professional resume includes victories over former and present world champions including: Dorsey, Tom Johnson, Juan Polo Perez, Fabrice Benichou, Alejandro Gonzalez, Hector Lizarraga, Frank Todedo, and Scott Harrison. Medina set a CompuBox record for most punches thrown by a featherweight — 1,466 — in his narrow majority decision loss to Johnny Tapia in 2002. Last year, he authored the “comeback story of the year,” when he won a split decision over WBO champion Scott Harrison — making him a world featherweight champion for an incredible fifth time.

Resendiz, 10-6 (6 KOs), captured the vacant WBC FECARBOX super featherweight title, in February, via a 12-round unanimous decision over Cesar Soriano. He returns to the ring fresh from successfully defending that title, in April, defeating Hector Mancina. “The world will know who Leonardo Resendiz is after I beat the great Mexican legend Manuel Medina,” said Resendiz. “Viva Resendiz!”

Carrera, 14-1 (6 KOs), is riding a one-year, four-bout winning streak, which includes a victory over Angel Mata, avenging Carrera’s only professional loss. Carrera, who attends the College of the Desert in Palm Desert, CA, turned pro in 2001 after compiling a 94-11 amateur record. Carrera returns to the ring fresh from his April victory over Ray Martinez, 10-2. Estanislao, 16-7-2 (3 KOs), captured the vacant Mexican super bantamweight title in 2001, defeating none other than…Angel Mata! He successfully defended the title against undefeated Antonio Cervantes before losing the title via a close majority decision to Jorge Solis later that year. Estanislao returns to the ring fresh from a split decision victory over Juan Ruiz, 17-1, last month in Las Vegas.

The undercard is highlighted by a four-round heavyweight brawl between John Clark, 7-3-1, (4 KOs), from Woodland Hills, CA, against Marcelino Novaes, 5-2-1 (3 KOs), from Las Vegas, NV; undefeated female sensation Melinda Cooper, 11-0 (7 KOs), from Las Vegas, NV, in a six-round super flyweight bout; and the pro debut of lightweight Luis Cervantes, from Cathedral City, CA, against Sergio Gonzalez, 0-0-1, from North Hollywood, CA.
