“EL DIABLO” RETURNS AGAINST SANCHEZ

Orange Ca, April 6, 2004 – Thompson Boxing Promotions is once again setting up a highly entertaining “Path to Glory” event to take place on April 26 at the Doubletree Hotel in the city of Ontario. It will be Thompson’s third show at this venue in the present year, which was successfully sold out in all past occasions thanks to the high-octane boxing action featured in the ring. The upcoming middleweight main event will have the same volatile formula as Ishwar “El Diablo” Amador (9-4, 6 KOs) puts everything on the line against Eddie Sanchez (9-3-2, 7 KOs) in a bout that promises fireworks from the initial bell.
Iswhar Amador has devastating punching power and is currently the super middleweight California State titleholder. Amador knocked out Errol Banner in his last “Path to Glory” outing and that explosiveness is what makes him a real threat. While promoting their fight Banner got under “El Diablo’s” skin by insinuating that he was going to defeat Amador in a press conference and radio show, but Amador kept his cool and proceeded to dismantle Banner in spectacular fashion in three rounds, right where it counts, inside the ring.

Amador has had a shaky career, especially in the beginning, when fresh out of La Paz, Mexico, he moved to the US with the hope to make a name for himself. He turned pro against undefeated Eric Reagan, who at the time was 12-0 with 7 KO’s, and was obviously overmatched. During his journey he has developed the necessary patience in the ring but he has kept his unorthodox style that allows him to throw heavy blows from awkward angles. “El Diablo” is completely dedicated to his upcoming fight and has a very clear mission. “I will do my best to knock out Sanchez,” said Amador from the Warzone Gym in Corona.

Eddie Sanchez, on the other hand, is a crafty boxer-puncher that is poised to take control over his opponent and utilize his power to stop him. Currently training in San Diego, Sanchez has been sparring with talented fighters as jr. middleweight contender Danny Perez and middleweight prospect Sergio Mora. Eddie is motivated and believes he is an underrated boxer because of his style and body. Sanchez is a lanky fighter with long arms and little muscle build up, however he attests that getting hit by him is like receiving sharp blows with the short end of a broom. “Just like when your grandma gets you for doing something wrong,” said Sanchez from his training camp.

He was a victim of a road rage crime in Los Angeles in 2002 and was forced to move to New Orleans. The attacker was never convicted for stabbing him in the stomach, the injury took Sanchez a full year to recover. Now he is completely ready for Amador and he expects to prove he is worthy of a title. In his last fight he faced Clinton Ayala, back on December 2003, and he won by TKO in round three.

The semi main event of “Path to Glory” will feature highly rated Shaun Plessis (5-0, 3 KOs) from British Columbia, Canada; against Carlos Cisneros (5-5-1, 3 KOs) from San Miguel, El Salvador, in a six round lightweight bout. Plessis is currently training with jr. welterweight contender Paul Spadafora in Orange County and is set to give it his best on April 26th. Cisneros, however, is a rough and though puncher whose greatest victory was against undefeated Zahami Gracia. The Salvadorian expects the same result and is training feverously at the La Brea Boxing Academy, which is becoming a cradle of boxing talent in the LA area.

The under card is made up of great local fighters as Thompson Boxing features the heavyweight punching power of Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola (5-0, 5 KOs) against David Johnson (1-4-1) in a four round rematch. Johnson challenged Arreola, even though he was knocked out on the first round of their fight back in November 2003. He assured he was preparing to box Arreola to get a seemingly satisfying revenge. Arreola, who is not scarred of anybody, respects Johnson but is not deterred from doing exactly the same as last time. “Maybe I’ll knock him out quickly,” said Arreola. “I can’t believe he didn’t learn his lesson last time around,” added the Nightmare.

Also featured will be hot prospect Dominic Salcido (4-0, 3 KOs) versus Otelo Diaz (2-3, 1 KO) in a six round jr. lightweight bout. Salcido is recovering from a right hand fracture that occurred in his last fight, also at “Path to Glory,” when he defeated Rogelio Ramirez in a fifth round TKO. Salcido is a talented fighter and he will be accompanied to the ring by Emmanuel Steward and head trainer Bob Davidson. Stewart sees a lot of potential in the young Salcido. His opponent, Otelo Diaz, will come to fight and is not impressed by his opponent’s achievements.

Two more bouts complete the “Path to Glory” event which will start at 7:30 pm, doors will open at 6:30 pm. Tickets for the show are available by calling 714-935-0900 and are sold for $75, $45 and $30, or by visiting www.thompsonboxing.com. The Doubletree Hotel is located on 222 N. Vineyard Ave., Ontario. A press conference will be announced shortly to formally present the complete card.
