Many questions were answered, ranging from topics inside and outside of the ring. I took the privilege, along with other media members, to partake in an exclusive media roundtable interview with Floyd “Money” Mayweather. Here’s an exclusive transcript of a few of the many questions that were answered were Mayweather answers questions dealing with his motivation, his line-up of rising stars under the Mayweather Boxing Club, Guerrero’s rough house tactics and his appreciation to the fans all over the world.

Floyd Mayweather Bids to Become Cinco De Mayo King

(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Adam J Webb: The Cinco De Mayo weekend has become synonymous with boxing superfights and this weekend proves no exception as Floyd Mayweather Jnr takes on Roberto Guerrero at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The modern day Las Vegas tradition began in 2003 when Oscar De La Hoya stopped Luis Raman Campas in seven rounds. De La Hoya with his large Hispanic fanbase was the original anchor to this boxing mega fixture. Bringing an army of fans to Las Vegas De La Hoya fought four times on this date in total, but in 2007 the balance of power shifted.

MAYDAY Fight Week: Fighter Grand Arrivals -The countdown has started

(Photo credit: Esther Line/Showtime) Las Vegas, NV once again captures the boxing spotlight this early May 2013 as Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero will square off in one of the year’s most anticipated Welterweight boxing events. The fighters from the planned televised fights made their grand arrival to the MGM Grand this Tuesday 04/30/2013.

To say that the audience turnout for the fighters’ grand arrival was a “pretty good one” would be a great understatement. In actuality, the MGM Grand main lobby was flooded with devoted boxing fans as well as members of the media. Appearances included Alexander Munoz, tough Light Middleweight Gabriel Rosado, rising star J’Leon Love, hard hitting Mexican Leo Santa Cruz, newly Featherweight Abner Mares, Daniel Ponce De Leon…and of course the two fighters that everyone came to see: Robert Guerrero and Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

Guerrero has had a great camp for Mayweather bout

(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) Robert “The Ghost’ Guerrero has reportedly had his best ever camp in getting ready for his fight this Saturday night against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in Las Vegas, Nevada, say his manager/trainer Bob Santos. He’s never seen the 29-year-old look so good and feels he’s peaking at the perfect time in his career in this important bout.

For Guerrero’s sake, you’ve got to hope he’s peaking because if he loses the fight and looks bad, he’s going to have to get in the back of a long, long line. He’ll obviously never get another chance against Mayweather if he loses the fight and the other big fight that Golden Boy Promotions can offer him is a fight against their huge-weighing junior middleweight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, who reportedly rehydrated to 172 pounds for his recent win over WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Robert Uzzell and Chip Mitchell Interview Trainer Floyd Mayweather, Sr.

We recently had the opportunity to interview one of the best trainers in boxing, Mr. Floyd Joy Mayweather, Sr. As we know, the senior Mayweather will be back in his son’s corner for the May 4, 2013 fight with Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero. Floyd wanted to set the record straight for fans and media alike. Here’s what he had to say…

Chip Mitchell: Floyd let’s jump right into it. I was going through some old CDs the other day and I came across a song by Peaches and Herb titled “Reunited”. I started singing along and I (jokingly) dedicated the chorus to you while I was singing, which leads to my question. How does it feel to be reunited with your son as his trainer?

Klitschko vs. Pianeta: Wladimir faces his former sparring partner this Saturday, May 4th

When you ask you will receive. In this case, IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (59-3, 50 KO’s) asked the World Boxing Association for permission to fight his former sparring partner Francesco Pianeta (28-0-1, 15 KO’s) and was given permission to take the fight instead of a fight with WBA champion Alexander Povetkin.

It’s unclear whether Wladimir is doing this as a favor to Pianeta or if he just what it was like to spar him and figured it would be a nice safe fight for him. Whatever the reason, Wladimir will be fighting Pianeta this Saturday night at the SAP-Arena, Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

Vitali: The Stiverne fight will take place

vitali9 WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (45-2, 41 KO’s) has acknowledged that he will indeed be facing his mandatory challenger 34-year-old Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s), who earned the title shot against the 41-year-old Vitali by defeating Chris Arreola by a 12 round unanimous decision last Saturday night at the Citizens Business Bank Arena, in Ontario, California, USA.

Vitali said to Fightnews.com: “There is an official challenger, Bermane Stiverne. The fight will take place. Now it’s necessary to determine the date.”

Left-Hook Lounge: Garcia/Judah, Martinez, & Amir Khan

Jaron H. (Queens, NYC): Would you say that Garcia’s performance cleared him as the best 140lb’er in the world? I thought he weathered the storm nicely and proved so. Would you agree?

Vivek W. (ESB): I think Garcia did a very good job and earned the victory, but I would also say lets keep things in perspective. Judah is a solid veteran and one who knows the boxing game as well as most. Sadly for him, execution is another story. The biggest subplot coming into the night for Judah was whether or not he would stay on course after getting touched up a little. What we learned is he would try a bit harder, but in the end it wouldn’t be enough, as again, his effort fell short on the big stage.

Questions and Answers with Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero

Chip Mitchell: Okay, Robert, now you are a very spiritual person. How has your spirituality played a part in your boxing career?

Robert Guerrero: You know, it plays a big part. Not just in boxing, it plays a big part in my life. You know, outside of the ring, with my family, raising my kids in church, believing in Jesus Christ, it’s a big part of my life and that’s what guides my whole life. That goes through my training camp, boxing, being in the ring. It really is the number one thing in my life.

Same Problems for Martinez and Judah but Sergio Overcame His

Sergio Martinez came away with a UD win, and Zab Judah lost a UD, but they both had similar problems. Neither southpaw dealt properly with their orthodox opponents’ right hands, but for different reasons. The difference in victory versus defeat for Murray and Garcia was Murray got started too late. He had to do too much catching up.

Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez also had an excuse. He suffered a broken left hand early in the fight, which hampered him greatly in defending against Muray’s right. Zab had no such excuse. Zab allowed Garcia to throw wild, looping powerful right hands without consequences. Everyone watching knew the punch was coming, yet Zab did nothing to stop them. Zab could have and should have beat Garcia to the punch, as the shots to his body were telegraphed.
