Former four division world champion Erik Morales says he sees the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight as a toss-up for September 14th. Morales thinks it could either way due to Mayweather fighting a younger guy in the 22-year-old Canelo, who Morales feels showed a lot of improvement recently.
Morales said to oem.com.mx “I see the fight 50-50 possibilities for each. To me, the fight comes down to conditions such as age, experience, youth, desire…this fight is very even for me.”
A lot of people feel that Canelo’s weight advantage could be the factor in him getting a victory in this fight. He weighed 172 for his last fight and has been fighting in the mid-160s in his other fights at 154.
British heavyweight David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) is taking out all the stops in getting ready for his rematch next month against 41-year-old Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) on July 6th at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK. The soon to be 30-year-old Price will be bringing in some of Wladimir Klitschko’s sparring partners from Europe to spar with him in Liverpool.
Jason N. (Manhattan, NYC): Canelo has made it clear in several interviews now that he plans to attack the body primarily against Floyd Mayweather. Considering that he’s the most fierce puncher Mayweather has faced, do you see this being the ultimate gameplan for a Mayweather opponent like him?
Former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) will be battling IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (25-1, 14 KO’s) on December 7th in a fight that could take place in Dubai. If Khan wins the fight, Golden Boy Promotions will look to match him up with WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in early 2014.
IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko may pull out of his October 5th fight with WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin unless the two can come together and agree on the drug testing for their fight at the Olimpiyskiy in Moscow, Russia. 
Trainer Nacho Beristain, trainer for Juan Manuel Marquez, believes WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) has a good chance of beating Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) three months from now because of Canelo’s combination punching and ability to dodge punches with his head movement. 
Unbeaten British heavyweight Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) will likely be facing former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye next after the purse bid for the Fury vs. Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9 KO’s) IBF eliminator bout was cancelled when Fury’s management opted not to take part in it.
Golden Boy Promotions has done a good job of parking their fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30’s) in the junior middleweight division instead of at middleweight, which is where the 172 lb. Canelo should be fighting given his weight. But by parking Canelo at a weight that he’s barely making at 154, Canelo has big advantage over the welterweights that Golden Boy is matching against him.
As always, any Mayweather Jr. news is colossal news, and as soon as Floyd announced his next opponent the boxing community went wild.
Carl “The Cobra” Froch has been sounding a lot like Floyd ”Money” Mayweather in the days following his huge payback win over Mikkel Kessler, which was broadcast by HBO in the United States, and Sky Sports PPV live from the O2 Arena in London, England. In so many words, Carl Froch and his promoter Eddie Hearn are saying, “all roads lead to Carl Froch”. Like Floyd as well, he says he has 3 or 4 major fights before he calls it a day.
