Arreola obliterates Mitchell in 1st round TKO

arreola555 In a disappointing Showtime card filled with terrible mismatches, heavyweight Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) totally obliterated Seth Mitchell (26-2-1, 19 KO’s) in the 1st round tonight at the Fantasy Springs Casino, in Indio, California, USA.

Arreola dropped the weak-chinned Mitchell twice in the 1st round. The fight, if you want to call it that, was then halted after Arreola hit Mitchell with a series of right hands that sent him running towards the ropes for safety behind the referee. Looked almost comical how Mitchell ended up behind the referee.

The first knockdown game from a right hand to the head that put Mitchell on the canvas. Mitchell got up, but his legs were totally gone and it was clear he wasn’t going to make it out of the round unless he held. Unfortunately for Mitchell, he didn’t choose to hold onto Arreola, and moments latter Mitchell was knocked down again after getting hit with several hard right hands to the head.

Burns keeps title with disputed draw with Beltran

SAN DIEGO (September 7, 2013)– Ricky Burns was fortunate to keep his WBO Lightweight championship with a twelve round split draw with Raymundo Beltran at the Scottish Exhibition Centre in Glasgow, Scotland

The fight was televised LIVE in the United States on AWE (formerly Wealth TV) and www.awetv.com

Burns controlled the first round and a he as he jabbed and worked the body. Beltran started landing some hard shots with the left hook and began to find his rhythm in round’s two and three. In round four, Beltran rocked Burns with a perfect left hook. Beltran continued to press Burns against the ropes where Burns started to look uncomfortable.

Canelo weighs in at 157.4 lbs; 5.4 pounds over the 152 lb. limit

A painfully thin WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) weighed in on Friday in the WBC mandated 7-day weigh-in for his fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44, 26 KO’s) on September 14th, and not surprisingly Canelo is still over the catch-weight limit of 152 pounds.

Burns vs. Beltran: Fight Day Predictions

Scotland’s two-weight world champion Ricky Burns (36-2) returns to the ring tonight to face the tough Mexican native Raymundo Beltran (28-6). Coatbridge fighter Burns will be making the third defence of his WBO lightweight title in front of an army of hometown fight fans at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, Glasgow.

Ricky will be eager to put on an impressive display after admitting he was far from his usual best in his win against the awkward Jose Gonzalez last time out.

Q – Obviously, your goal is to retire undefeated and have a Hall of Fame career. You’ve also talked about the mark you want to make as a promoter and that you are making as a promoter. When you think about your career being done and your children and your legacy, what do you want to look back on and say you accomplished not only as an undefeated fighter but the mark you left? What kind of things do you want to say?

Also, what do you look forward to in retirement – spending time with your kids, those types of things? Can you just kind of share that with us?

Mayweather Jr: Who is he Ducking NOW?

floyd8 8 days to go before the September 14 big fight and many Mayweather ‘detractors’ are vocalizing Mayweather’s legacy. And some of what they’re saying isn’t good. Before I go into the details I just want to say Floyd’s body of work stacks up favorably with most if not ALL of the ‘All Time Greats’.

Mayweather detractors are still fault-finding when it comes to who Floyd fought or didn’t fight. A particular bone haters tend to pick is who Floyd supposedly ducked. Back in the day Floyd was ducking Chico Corrales (RIP), until he fought him. Around the same time Floyd was ducking Joel Casamayor and Acelino Freitas, both of whom Floyd called out but never received a response.

Chisora ready to smash Gerber on September 21

Finchley heavyweight Dereck Chisora was buoyant yesterday about the prospect of fighting at The Copper Box and suggested that the Olympic Park arena would become his ‘new home venue’. Former World Title challenger Chisora, faces off against Edmund Gerber for the Vacant European Heavyweight Title on the 21st September at the venue, as chief support to Billy Joe Saunders and John Ryder’s British Middleweight Title showdown; the action will all be shown Live and Exclusive on BoxNation.

For Chisora, the meeting with Gerber represents the chance to capture the belt he was robbed of by ridiculous judges’ scoring when he faced Robert Helenius in Finland just under two years ago. Since then Chisora’s career has been a whirlwind of controversy and high profile fights that have made become one of the most recognisable figures in British boxing, however he hold no regrets over the robbery: “Yeah I was robbed, but the guy I faced (Helenius) hasn’t done anything since and is more or less done. But I’ve had some huge fights since then.’

After The Gloves Come Off: Jack Peterson

The former British Heavyweight and Light-Heavyweight champion retired after losing to German Walter Nuessal for the third time in February of 1937. He was only 26 years old which is very young for a talented boxer to retire; in fact some boxers have been known to have their professional debut at an age later than the Welsh man was when he retired. Despite only being a professional for some five and a half years Peterson had missed falling into the trap of saving some of his hard earned ring earnings and opened a sports shop in Bury which became successful.
