Quillin-Korobov purse bid won by Roc Nation for November 8th fight

On Monday, Roc Nation Sports won the purse bid for November 8th matchup between WBO middleweight Peter Quillin (31-0, 22 KOs) and his mandatory challenger Matt Korobov (24-0, 14 KOs). Roc Nation was founded by rapper Jay-Z. They out-bid Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank with a monstrous bid of $1,904,840.

Golden Boy came in second with a bid of $1,207,000. Top Rank was a distant third at $515,000. The bid that Roc Nation put in for the Quillin vs. Korobov fight was obviously a very high one because it’s not a fight that promises a lot of interest from boxing fans.

Gennady Golovkin – Marco Antonio Rubio close to being done for October 18th at StubHub Center, Carson, CA

A match-up between WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs) and two-time world title challenger Marco Antonio Rubio (59-6-1, 51 KOs) for October 18th at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, according to Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez.

Golovkin is looking to expand his presence to the West Coast, as he’s been fighting on the East Coast and in Monte Carlo in the last year. Fighting Rubio is one of getting the attention of boxing fans in California. Rubio is pretty much the next sacrificial lamb for Golovkin to slaughter.

Kell Brook’s first defense of IBF title expected in December in Sheffield

Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn will be looking to get IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) back in the ring in the next four months possibly in December in a fight that he wants to place in Sheffield, a location where Brook frequently fights.

Hearn isn’t talking about an opponent yet, but it’s not expected to be a dangerous one. Hearn his eyes on trying to line up a big name for Brook in 2015 against one of the following fighters: Amir Khan, Juan Manuel Marquez, Manny Pacquiao of Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Andre Berto vs. Steve Upsher Chambers on September 6th at U.S. Bank Arena, Cincinnati, Ohio

Former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (28-3, 22 KOs) will be making a comeback next month against little known Steve Upsher Chambers (24-3-1, 6 KOs) in a scheduled 10 round bout on the Adrien Broner vs. Emmanuel Taylor card at the U.S. Bank Arena, in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.

Berto, 30, hasn’t fought since last year when he was stopped in the 12th round by Jesus Soto Karass on July 27th, 2013 at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas. Berto tore a tendon in his right shoulder in the 2nd round of that fight when Soto Karass blocked one of his right hands.

Hearn wants Mayweather or Pacquiao for Kell Brook in 2015

Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is dreaming big as far as potential opponents he’d like to line his fighter WBA welterweight champion Kell Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) against next year in 2015. On his wish list is Amir Khan, Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao.

Hearn will have to use all of his skills as a promoter to lure Pacuiao or Mayweather into a fight against Brook. The only way it makes a lot of sense is if they agree to come over to the UK and fight Brook in front of 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in London, UK.

Maidana: First I’m going to give Mayweather a beating, and then I’m going to KO him

Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) wants to give WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) a sustained beating before eventually putting him out of his misery by knocking him out in their rematch next month on September 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Maidana has built up animosity towards Mayweather stemming from the comments he’s made about him being a dirty fighter from their previous fight, as well as the outcome of the fight. Maidana doesn’t see himself as a dirty fighter, and he feels what he does is no different than what Mayweather does in the ring with him using his elbows.

Wladimir Klitschko faces tough test in Kubrat Pulev on September 6th

In what is easily the toughest test since his fight against former WBA champ David Haye in 2011, IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (62-3, 52 KOs) will be putting his belts on the line against #1 IBF Kubrat Pulev (20-0, 11 KOs) next month on September 6th at the O2 World Arena, Altona, in Hamburg, Germany.

Pulev, 6’4 ½”, matches up well with the 6’6” Wladimir in terms of size and his ability to jab with power. Wladimir has a slight height advantage of a little less than two inches, but they’re both basically the same in the jab department.

Austin Trout battles Daniel Dawson this Friday in Temecula, CA

#7 WBA Austin Trout (26-2, 14 KOs) will be back in the ring this Friday night in an effort to end his 2-fight losing streak. Trout will, 28, will be fighting #15 WBA Daniel Dawson (40-3-1, 26 KOs) at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California.

Trout has lost his last couple of fights against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Erislandy Lara, and looked poor in both fights. Trout cannot afford to lose to Dawson without it putting his career in jeopardy.

Losing to Lara and Canelo is nothing for Trout to be ashamed of because those guys are in the top 5 of the 154 pound division. But losing to the 36-year-old Daniel Dawson, who is no relation to former WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson, would do irreparable harm to Trout’s career.

Kell Brook to take optional defense later this year

Al Bernstein says that IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) will be looking to make an optional title defense later this year against an opponent still to be determined. Bernstein seems to think it could be 40-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez, but that’s pure speculation on his part. Bernstein has no idea who Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn will be choosing for the fight, but if we were to go by Hearn’s track record, I would think not.

.You can’t assume that Brook is going to be able to get past Marquez. That’s a tough fight for Marquez, and Hearn might not want to take the risk in making this fight if it could potentially ruin Brook’s chances of getting a big money payday against Amir Khan, Floyd Mayweather Jr or Manny Pacquiao in 2015.
