TMZ: Mayweather vs Berto Official

It’s on … Floyd Mayweather is officially set to square off with Andre Berto in September … TMZ Sports has confirmed.

The two have been in talks for weeks … but now we’re told from both camps that it’s a done deal and the two will fight in Vegas on September 12th.

We spoke with Berto who tells us, “It’s a pleasure and honor to be in this position and I’m looking forward to capitalizing on every moment of it”.

As we previously reported, there’s some bad blood between the two — with Berto claiming Mayweather had been crank calling his phone … and he believes it was all over a woman.

Eddie Hearn: If No Floyd, Who Else Can Khan Fight But Brook?

After Amir Khan’s recent comments regarding Kell Brook, one has a feeling it will be an exercise in futility, yet Matchroom Boxing boss Eddie Hearn has gone on record to say that he plans on making an offer to Khan later this week for a November super fight between the two Brits, which in the unlikely event it’s accepted, would give Khan the opportunity to answer his own question “Do I have to put a beating on Kell Brook to prove I’m the better fighter?”

In his most recent chat with iFLtv, Khan said the above and more, repeating his insistence that he feels IBF welterweight champion Brook has done nothing to deserve a shot at him and simply “isn’t a big enough name.”

Matchroom Boxing have big plans for undefeated heavyweight prospect Anthony Joshua, who enters his first significant title fight on September 12th, when he fights Scotland’s Gary Cornish for the vacant Commonwealth heavyweight strap at the O2 in London.

After destroying American veteran Kevin Johnson inside two rounds in May in what was meant to be his toughest test yet, the former Olympic gold medalist feels he is on a faster than anticipated career arc, possibly eyeing a world title shot towards the end of 2016/early 2017 should everything go as planned.

Carl Froch: No Apologies Over GGG / Intends To Stay Retired

Nottingham’s Carl Froch finally brought the curtain down on his world title winning boxing career last week to take up his new role as full-time pundit for Sky Boxing, bringing about an end to the will he/won’t he fight again debate that had been rumbling since his 2nd victory over countryman George Groves last May.

After vacating his IBF title rather than face James DeGale, the Cobra was stripped of his WBA (reg) strap for inactivity as he made a decision about his next move and waited out an elbow injury – watching a mooted fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in Las Vegas fall by the wayside when the Mexican was beaten into submission by Andrzej Fonfara earlier this year.

GH3 Promotions statement on Jerry Odom defeat

Nutley, NJ (July 20, 2015) – This past Friday night at the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem, Jerry Odom (13-2, 12 KO’s) was stopped in three rounds by Samuel Clarkson (15-3, 9 KO’s) in what was supposed to be a fight contested in the Super Middleweight division.

Odom of Washington, DC did his part to meet his contractual obligation and made the 168 pound contracted weight. Unfortunately Clarkson checked in over 4 pounds higher at 172.8

At the morning- after weigh in, Clarkson was only supposed to be 10 pounds over the contracted weight and could not come in over 180 but once again was overweight at 184.6 pounds. Odom was 173 pounds.

Feigenbutz destroys Reynoso, Fedor Chudinov next

Once beaten 19-year-old German knockout artist Vincent Feigenbutz (20-1, 19 KOs) made easy work of 38-year-old Mauricio Reynoso (15-2-1, 11 KOs) in destroying him in three rounds last Saturday night to capture the interim WBA World super middleweight title at the Gerry Weber Stadium in Halle, Germany. Feigenbutz battered Reynoso with power shots until dropping him in the 3rd round with a hard left to the body. The fight was then stopped at 1:21 of the round by referee Giuseppe Quartarone.

With this victory, Feigenbutz will next be fighting for the world title against WBA World super middleweight champion Fedor Chudinov (13-0, 10 KOs) later this year or perhaps early next year.

Amir Khan: Do I Have To Put A Beating On Brook To Prove I’m The Better Fighter?

Before last night’s “High Stakes” card in Manchester, fans were expecting an announcement from IBF 147 lb champion Kell Brook – who was sat ringside alongside promoter Eddie Hearn – regarding his next fight in October. Although the announcement failed to materialise, there was a rather awkward moment when the big screen in the arena flashed to welterweight rival Amir Khan backstage before shooting across to Brook, who hadn’t realised immediately that Khan was in the building or that the camera had now focused in on him.

Carl Frampton: Possible Move To Featherweight? / Avoiding Quigg Says Hearn

Last night in Texas, IBF 122 lb champion Carl Frampton overcame an early scare against Mexico’s Alejandro Gonzalez Jr, surviving two flash knockdowns in the opening stanza, to bully his way back into a hard fought and deserved UD win against a fighter who looked a whole lot better than “the 11th best 122 lb fighter in Mexico” as Matchroom Sport’s Eddie Hearn delightfully splashed over his twitter in acknowledgement of the pre-fight world rankings.

Hearn, who promotes Frampton’s domestic, divisional rival Scott Quigg is certain that following the performance, the Northern Irishman wants no part of his fighter, and cites Frampton’s trainer saying he will possibly move up to featherweight, as a sure sign of that reluctance.

Anthony Crolla & Team Left Devastated By Draw / Hearn Calls For Rematch

Last night saw heartbreak for Anthony Crolla’s world title dreams in Manchester when a valiant and spirited effort from the home-town challenger ended in a controversial draw, despite champion Darleys Perez losing two points for low blow infringements.

The challenger put in a heroic shift that upon the sounding of the final belt saw his corner hoist him into the air to the raucous cheers of the partisan crowd who threatened to take the roof off.

However the joy was to be short lived, and after some initial confusion regarding the scorecards, legendary MC Michael Buffer dealt the crushing blow that the fight was a draw and the belt was returning to Colombia.

The Transnational Boxing Rankings Board: More Support is Needed

On 18th July, 2015, Arthur Abraham won his fourth encounter with Robert Stieglitz via sixth round KO, successfully defending his WBO belt and maintaining his position atop The Ring super middleweight ratings. A fight between Abraham and James DeGale would crown a new Ring Magazine champion – they are the number one and number two rated fighters in their division respectively. Potentially, if these two 168 pounders fail to negotiate a fight, DeGale could in fact fight the number five rated Gilberto Ramirez for the once prestigious Ring title.

Andre Ward, one of the most accomplished champions the super middleweight division has ever had is nowhere to be seen in the current Ring ratings.
