Is Gilberto Ramirez the man to give Gennady Golovkin a fight; maybe beat him?

YouTube video

Mexico’s Gilberto Ramirez made boxing history this past Saturday night, as he became the first fighter from his country to win a world super-middleweight title. The unbeaten 24-year-old shut-out tough old warrior Arthur Abraham over 12-rounds on the Pac-Man-Bradley card in Las Vegas. A fine talent who had been groomed for championship level and for stardom, the tall, 6’2.5”, southpaw improved to 34-0(24) and he stated after his commanding win how he is open to fighting “anybody” in the near future.

Pacman & Money – Two Too Good to Retire

Pacman & Money - Two Too Good to Retire

For purely selfish reasons, boxing fans lament, “say it ain’t so” to Manny “Pac man” Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38KO) and Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr. (49-0-0, 26KO). They are two fighters, who should remain at the top of the P4P lists. There is a problem, though. Money wisely continues with his desire to be in control. In other words, as he explains, he wants it to be his decision to retire, rather than have adverse effects of the brutal game dictate when it’s time to retire.

Joshua – Martin: Round by round and a half recap

BOXING

That is how long the title fight lasted – a round and a half. Anthony Joshua (16-0) had not even warmed up before the mockery of a heavyweight champion in front of him fell apart. Charles Martin (23-1-1) is a remarkable exception in the sport where sometimes boxers pose as champions and play their part until the bluff is inevitably called. In this case there was a champion posing a boxer and his bluff was blown to pieces in no time. This was Martin’s 25th fight and his first loss, so there are 24 or so heavyweight boxers out there who are even worse.

Newly crowned IBF heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua insists he will not get carried away with winning his first world title and that bigger and better fights are very much still to come. Joshua crushed the big talking non-delivering “Prince” Charles Martin inside two stunningly easy rounds last night and in light of A.J’s easy win, the jury is still out on how good, or great, the 26-year-old can become.

Pacquiao defeats Bradley; Ramirez beats Abraham

Pacquiao defeats Bradley; Ramirez beats Abraham

In their third and possibly final fight together, 37-year-old Manny Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KOs) proved to have too much speed and talent for former two division world champion Tim Bradley (33-2-1, 13 KOs) in defeating him by a 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pacquiao was the one coming forward all night trying to make the fight happen. Pacquiao’s aggressiveness paid off, as he knocked Bradley down in the 7th and 9th rounds. Other than those knockdowns, the fight was mostly a tactical affair with Bradley trying to avoid getting hit, and Pacquiao looking to land single left hand shots.
