The venerable facility which has recently been renovated first opened in 1950 and honors the United States military veterans who served during wartime. In the main event, it was a fight of fringe contenders as Roamer Alexis Angulo of Bogota, Colombia faced Claudio Ariel Abalos of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In the days leading into last night’s Adrien Broner-Ashley Theophane fight – a match-up that had not set fight fans on fire – the main topic of discussion was not the fight itself, but the shenanigans Broner had, and was getting up to outside of the ring. Broner’s legal troubles generated plenty of ink, as did his failure to make weight for the Theophane fight, but “The Problem’s” seemingly very real problem in getting along with his one-time hero and “big brother,” Floyd Mayweather Junior really set tongues wagging and got keyboards pounded.

More specifically, Broner “kept his promise” to the public with a controversial stoppage of Ashley Theophane in the 9th round of the Premier Boxing Champions’ (PBC) main event at the DC Armory in Washington, DC. But stopping a game Theophane wasn’t enough to send shockwaves through the packed house.

In tonight’s PBC on Spike opener, top prospect Gervonta “The One” Davis (15-0, 14 KOs) thrilled the crowd with a TKO at :29 of the sixth round over Mexico’s Guillermo Avila (15-6, 12 KOs) in a 10-round super featherweight bout that showcased the young Davis’ versatility. Davis, who pressed the action throughout the fight while the combatants engaged in many competitive exchanges, showed off his emerging talent as a multi-dimensional young pugilist.
Robert Easter Jr. stops Algenis Mendez
Robert Easter Jr. (17-0, 14 KO) showed why he’s a rising star with a devastating KO at 2:43 in the 5th round over former world champion Algenis Mendez (23-4-1, 12 KOs) in a lightweight fight that finished with the crowd on their feet. Easter, who took a big step up in competition facing Mendez, showed the patience of a season veteran in the early rounds against Mendez who represented the Dominican Republic in the 2004 Olympics and now fights out of Brooklyn.

AIBA President Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu’s idea to allow pro boxers to compete at the 2016 Olympic games still attracting plenty of attention
Last month, AIBA President Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu stated how he would like to see professional boxers boxing at Olympic level. The president said the sport’s governing body plans to change its rules and allow pro boxers the chance to qualify for and fight in Rio 2016. Theoretically, this would allow a top name pro, a world champion, like a Manny Pacquiao to box against an amateur in the forthcoming games.

Now that the former pound-for-pound undisputed best pugilist in the world, Floyd Mayweather has retired following his victory over Andre Berto last September, the search begins for who’ll replace him as the best fighter in boxing. There are many deserving boxers such as Roman Gonzalez, Sergey Kovalev, Andre Ward, among others, that have exceptional credentials and significant victories that make them worthy to be considered the best fighter in the world. The boxer; however, that stands out above everyone else as the best pound-for-pound pugilist in the world is Gennady “GGG” Golovkin.
