Four-division world champion Adrien Broner and three-division world champion Mikey Garcia completed a two-day media tour that took them from coast-to-coast and culminated with a Los Angeles press conference Tuesday to discuss their super lightweight showdown that headlines SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING Saturday, July 29 live on SHOWTIME. Broner vs. Garcia is presented by Premier Boxing Champions at Barclays Center, the home of BROOKLYN BOXING®.
GGG vs Canelo: Golovkin ready for “toughest test,” Canelo expects KO
Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez met yesterday in London, on the first stop in their promotional tour ahead of the September 16 showdown for the world middleweight crown; arguably THE biggest fight of the year.
And while the two men eyeballed one-another in an icy fashion, the two let it be known they have plenty of respect for each other’s considerable talents. Canelo said he fully expects the fight to end in a KO – and you can of course guess who the Mexican warrior feels will be the man scoring the knockout. While Golovkin, who has never experienced defeat (Canelo has, but only at the hands of the sublime Floyd Mayweather Jr.) says he is fully expecting, and is prepared for, the “toughest test” of his entire career.
Andre Ward-Adonis Stevenson: A fight that has to happen
Although Andre Ward doesn’t seem too overly enthused at the idea of taking a fight with Adonis Stevenson – preferring to ponder a move to cruiserweight, maybe even heavyweight – a clash between the two light-heavyweight rulers remains of interest to the fans.
Not only would this fight be for all the 175-pound belts, Stevenson holding the WBC crown, Ward all the rest, The Ring Magazine belt included, it would also be an interesting clash of styles: the boxer Vs. the puncher. And in speaking with RingTV. Stevenson said he wants the fight, that he isn’t overly concerned with Ward’s superb defensive abilities, and that “Al [Haymon] will take care of it.”

Adrien Broner and Mikey Garcia New York quotes

Lennox Lewis the latest to weigh-in on Mayweather-McGregor; “I wouldn’t buy it on pay-per-view”
Everyone it seems, has an opinion on the upcoming cash bonanza that will be the Floyd Mayweather Vs. Conor McGregor clash. Retired heavyweight great Lennox Lewis is the latest big name to weigh-in on the much maligned August 26 “Super-Fight,” and Lewis doesn’t have anything good to say about the crossover bout.
“I can’t take it serious,” Lewis told The Star. “Mayweather is the best in his weight class, no one can touch him in boxing. He’s a pugilist of the highest order, so for another man from a different sport to fight him? It’s just ridiculous to me. They are two totally different sports. Floyd will stop him. He’s just too good at boxing for McGregor and McGregor is too inexperienced at boxing. He can’t use his other styles.”
Forget PPV, Manny Pacquiao-Jeff Horn will be live on ESPN
In what is great news for fight fans, for their pockets especially, it has been confirmed how superstar Manny Pacquiao’s upcoming fight will go out live on ESPN. The reigning WBO welterweight king will of course face unbeaten Australian puncher Jeff Horn in Brisbane on July 2, at the start of his planned world tour.
And though Pac Man has been a huge draw on pay-per-view over the years, and though his popularity remains enormous, Top Rank have decided to give fight fans the upcoming fight for free as it were.
Andre Ward Vs. Anthony Joshua!? You’ve gotta be kidding, Virgil Hunter
Is it a joke, or is the joke on us – or will it be? As fight fans may or may not have read, man of the hour Andre Ward, fresh off his controversial rematch win over a fuming Sergey Kovalev, is looking at his next move. And, according to his great trainer Virgil Hunter, a move up to heavyweight, to fight, get this – Anthony Joshua, is what could come next. Hunter says this is the fight that he himself would like to see.
Chapter 3 The Gift of Adjustment – Ward vs Kovalev
We have brought conclusion in a manner their earlier engagement did not offer us, in its bitter end. I was rather disappointed to see the fight end earlier than what I thought it should have been allowed to end. I pulled through a replay a bout to further assess the low blows which the Kovalev camp has raised to attention.
As expressed in some of my prefight analysis and commentary this fight was designed to leave better conclusion in casting light on the deserved winner. It called for further improvements to be made in their second encounter to allow the winner greater margin than what was evident in their earlier bout. I see their abilities as being well matched and the winner would be separated by the evolutionary advancement made in learning from their first engagement and applying adjustment to their revised strategy inside the fight.
