The former IBO middleweight titleholder, Peter ‘The Pride of Providence’ Manfredo, Jr.’s comeback fight after being out of the ring for three years, didn’t go as planned as he had settled for a eight round draw against Vladine Biosse in a good back and forth super middleweight bout. Manfredo, Jr. received one scorecard 78-74, Biosse the other 77-75, and the third was 76-76.
VIDEO: Wladimir Klitschko has a chance to redefine his legacy
Wladimir Klitschko’s rise to heavyweight dominance wasn’t always smooth sailing. The long time dominant heavyweight champion had several major setbacks on the road to greatness before joining forces with Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Steward. He had already suffered defeats at the hands of Ross Puritty and Corrie Sanders prior to teaming up with Steward, and then when the two had their first fight together, Wladimir suffered another devastating loss at the hands of Lamon Brewster. It was a disappointing start for the new duo, and in the end it would be the only fight they would lose together before Wladimir began his dominant reign which lasted nearly 10 years where Wladimir had hardly lost any rounds along the way.
Wilder vs Povetkin: Deontay Wilder Statement
MAY 15, 2016 – In the wake of the news on Friday that Alexander Povetkin tested positive for the banned substance meldonium, WBC Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder and his representatives have been made aware of the WBC’s decision on Sunday that the fight will not occur in Moscow on May 21.
“I’m very disappointed that due to Povetkin’s failed drug test the fight is not going to happen on May 21 in Moscow,” said Deontay Wilder. “I had worked very hard to prepare myself for this important title defense, spending the last two weeks training in England to get accustomed to fighting in Europe. I wanted to give the fans a great show, but we understand the WBC’s position that the fight occur on an even playing field.”
Could Tyson Fury become another Buster Douglas? David Haye fears the worst
It’s been said before now, by a number of fans, that heavyweight ruler Tyson Fury – who partied and partied after winning the crown and piled on a ton of weight as a result – could go down in history as “another Buster Douglas.” Douglas of course, smashed “invincible” heavyweight king Mike Tyson to defeat in a truly stunning performance, then ate himself up to around 300-pounds and almost lost his life after falling into a diabetic coma.
Hopefully Fury will not follow such a path, but there are fresh concerns in light of his terrible physical appearance at “that” press conference in Manchester last month. Fury has since shifted a substantial amount of the excess weight he packed on and hopefully he will be fully focused going into his July 9 rematch with Wladimir Klitschko.

Joseph Parker’s trainer Kevin Barry twice turned down “risky” fight with Carlos Takam
It is a sign of how dangerous a task unbeaten New Zealand heavyweight contender Joseph Parker faces a week today against Cameroonian Carlos Takam, that his trainer Kevin Barry twice turned a possible fight with Takam down, as he was “all risk and no reward.” This was a few months back, when Parker needed, in the words of Barry, who was speaking with Stuff.co.nz earlier this week, “more time to develop and mature.”
Rigondeaux reinstated as WBA super-bantamweight ‘super’ champ; tournament planned to crown one man as WBA 122-pound ruler
Gifted Cuban southpaw Guillermo Rigondeaux has been given back his status as the WBA “super” champion at 122-pounds. As fans may recall, “Rigo” was stripped of the belt back in November of last year due to inactivity. Scott Quigg of Britain was elevated to “super” champion ahead of his fight with IBF boss Carl Frampton. Frampton won, adding the WBA strap to his collection, but then he himself was stripped as he chose to move up in weight – for a huge fight with featherweight king Leo Santa Cruz – and now Rigondeaux has the belt back. Phew!
Floyd Mayweather says he “absolutely” thinks his fight with Conor McGregor will happen
Talk regarding a potential blockbuster of a fight between Floyd Mayweather Junior and Conor McGregor will seemingly not go away – in fact, Mayweather himself is now speaking to the media about the fight, insisting he “absolutely” thinks the fight will happen. Only yesterday, UFC President Dana White seemed to have closed the book on the world-be super-fight once and for all, when he said the fight had almost no chance of happening, and that if it did, he and the UFC would have to be involved in the promotion.
