Jason Quigley Looks to Impress Tonight

Irish native Jason Quigley looks to remain undefeated tonight at the Belasco Theater in downtown Los Angeles. The former amateur standout, now 3-0 as a professional (all wins by stoppage), faces Lanny Dardar (2-2-2, 1KO) as part of Golden Boy Promotions’ inaugural “LA Fight Night” card. Their super-middleweight bout will be part of the televised portion of the card, which will air on Fox Sports 1 and Fox Deportes at 7:30pm pacific time.

This will be Quigley’s first fight of 2015; he’s planning to build on the momentum he created last year. Indeed 2014 was quite a year for the blue chip prospect. After winning a silver medal at the World Amateur Boxing Championships in late 2013, Quigley decided to forego a run at the 2016 Olympics and announced he was going pro shortly thereafter.

WBO Number 9 and WBA number 10 heavyweight Joseph Parker took care of American Jason Pettaway in four rounds at the Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau City, New Zealand on Thursday night.

Parker was the boss from the start pushing the visitor from West Virginian back with jarring jabs and right hands.

In the second round, Parker hurt Pettaway with a straight right to the body and was cracking him late in the round.

Pettaway came forward trying to make a fight of it in the third but was down from body shots with thirty seconds left in the round and was in trouble at the bell.

A good crowd has stepped out to see the hometown hero, and in this case it’s quite literally that. Parker is fighting 10 minutes away from where he grew up before shifting to Las Vegas to pursue his boxing career under the guidance of Kevin Barry.

An ensemble of sporting celebs and local fans are in attendance, including a guy that’s found fame for all the wrong reasons. Joseph Parker has given a front row seat ticket to a chap named Teina Pora. Pora did over two decades of jail time for a heinous crime he has being judiciously absolved of. Some have it a 50/50 fight, the rest are firmly on the Pacquiao bandwagon or the “Money” bandwagon. Freddie Roach has even injected some psychological warfare into the mix claiming that Roger Mayweather is a better trainer than Floyd Mayweather Sr. – causing a little discord in the Mayweather camp can’t hurt.

Current Belts: WBC/WBA ‘Super’ World Welterweight (147lbs); WBC World Light–Middleweight (154lbs)

Surely, this is still the only position in the rankings not up for debate. There’s no doubt that at 38 years old Mayweather appears to have lost half a step, but until he surrenders that incredible undefeated record or else looks truly atrocious in the ring, he will remain in the top spot on pretty much any list you can find. With the Pacquiao fight FINALLY being set for May 2nd of this year, Mr. Money faces the man with a higher chance than anyone of finally knocking him off of his pound-for-pound perch. In doing so, he has also managed to silence some of the “Ducker” jibes levelled against him over the previous few years (at least temporarily). Realistically, then, there are only two people with even a faint hope of achieving the feat of dethroning Mayweather: it’s either Manny Pacquiao or Father Time.
