Ryan Walsh made a stunning first defence of his British Featherweight title with a brutal fifth round KO against Aberdeen’s Darren Traynor at Bethnal Green’s York Hall. Roared on by hundreds of his loyal Farmy Army supporters, Walsh put on a stunning performance in the opening defence of the title he won against Samir Mouneimne last September.
Former two-weight world champion David Haye broke broadcasting records this weekend for UKTV channel Dave, with a peak of 3 million viewers tuning in to watch The Hayemaker’s long-awaited comeback versus Australian Mark De Mori.
Dave, broadcasting a live sports event for the very first time, peaked a total of 3.02 million viewers for the fight – 14% of the UK TV audience – making it the top non-public broadcast service programme of the day. During the fight Dave actually experienced a higher share of the UK audience than Channel 4 and was only 1 per cent behind ITV. In addition, 100,000 viewers streamed the fight live on YouTube around the world.
As expected, 35-year-old David Haye (27-2, 25 KOs) put in a big statement on Saturday night in blowing out heavyweight contender Mark De Mori (30-2-2, 26 KOs) by a 1st round knockout at the O2 Arena in London, England.
Haye backed De Mori up against the ropes and knocked him down with a big right hand to the head. De Mori was too hurt to get back to his feet. The fight was then halted by referee Bob Williams at 2:11 of the round.
David Deron Haye – born in Bermondsey, London, England, on 13th October, 1980, to an English mother and a Jamaican father – is one of the finest British boxers of the 21st century so far.
A talented amateur, Haye won a silver medal at the world championships in 2001, before turning professional in 2002. His victory over Jean Marc Mormeck in France in 2007, is one of the rare occasions a Briton has won a Ring Magazine title on foreign soil.

The undercard has today been announced for David Haye’s long-awaited comeback fight against Australia’s top 10 WBA ranked Mark De Mori on Saturday January 16, 2016 at The O2 in London.
Topping the Haye Day undercard is De Mori’s compatriot, Billy ‘The Kid’ Dib (39-4, 23 KOs) who takes on England’s tough contender Jamie Speight in a super featherweight contest scheduled for ten rounds. A former two-weight world champion, Dib, who was previously promoted by rap sensation 50 Cent, recently fought Takashi Miura for the WBC World super featherweight title in a thrilling contest in May.
Showtime’s Brian Custer recently referred to Deontay Wilder as the “world heavyweight champion” and so contributed to the mass confusion in boxing. Would-be fans —precisely the demographic the sport needs to attract— scratched their heads and wondered what the hell happened two weeks ago when Tyson Fury defeated Wlad Klitschko and was declared the “heavyweight champion of the world.” An unknown number of them reached for the clicker.

The Hayemaker has responded to the threat as follows: “Yo Mark De Mori – I heard you said England suck at rugby, cricket and football well, believe me, you play all those sports. With boxing you don’t play you fight and the only chance you’ve got of winning this fight is to have the whole rugby team in the ring with you. You are getting knocked out – trust me.”
Heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury is expecting a gruelling war when Andy Lee and Billy Joe Saunders share the ring this Saturday night.
