Is there any way back for Gonzalez? Can anyone stop Rungvisai!

Is there any way back for Gonzalez? Can anyone stop Rungvisai!

In a year that has been full of stunners, last night’s truly shocking result in Carson, California might just have topped the lot. Srisaket Sor Ringvisai, AKA Wisaskil Wangek, absolutely destroyed one-time Pound-for-Pound king Roman Gonzalez.

Last night’s fight was a rematch of a great action fight that saw the tough, strong and, as we saw last night, viciously powerful Thai southpaw score an upset decision win over a 46-0 “Chocolatito” – what happened last night blew that win off the charts.

Naoya Inoue stops Antonio Nieves - Results

WBO super flyweight world champion Naoya “The Monster” Inoue (14-0, 12 KOs) easily took care of Antonio “Carita” Nieves (17-2-2, 9 KOs) in beating him by a 6th round retirement stoppage on Saturday night on the “SuperFly” card at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Nieves’ corner let the referee know after round 6 that he wouldn’t be coming out for the 7th. Inoue knocked Nieves down in round 5 with a shot to the midsection. Hagler’s age, slowing down gave Leonard his chance; will GGG’s age, slowing down give Canelo his chance?

Hagler's age, slowing down gave Leonard his chance; will GGG's age, slowing down give Canelo his chance?

Timing is everything in boxing: the timing of a punch, the timing of a knockout blow and the timing of the fight itself. It’s no secret how welterweight great Sugar Ray Leonard waited, and waited and waited for the opportune time to make the move up to middleweight and challenge the fearsome Marvelous Marvin Hagler.

Age proved to be a big factor in the 1987 battle – Hagler’s age, that and the wear and tear the Brockton southpaw had picked up during his long title reign. Now, as we approach the middleweight Super Fight many have compared to Leonard-Hagler, some astute fans are asking themselves, has Mexican warrior Canelo Alvarez, in his prime at age 27, waited until the perfect time to move up and challenge middleweight king Gennady Golovkin? Will age prove to be a big factor in this fight?

Why Floyd Mayweather Jr. Could Be ‘TBE’

Why Floyd Mayweather Jr. Could Be 'TBE'

‘The Best Ever’. Three small words, yet they carry a ton of weight in today’s boxing landscape. When we survey the talent from past generations, each era has a list of candidates. And each candidate has a growing list of fans eager to plant their flag in the sand and declare their guy as the man! As great as they all were, each came with his own set of strengths and weaknesses. Some had speed, but no chin. Others had a chin and no power. Some were blessed with both power and speed, yet limited skill and stamina prevented them from reaching this peak. All of these talents were profound enough to put cheeks-in-seats, but at the highest level, star power alone isn’t quite enough to claim the mantle.
