Miguel Angel Cotto: Show Some Respect

Miguel Angel Cotto: Show Some Respect

This Saturday night live on HBO, Miguel Cotto takes a final bow at his home away from home, Madison Square Garden, in New York City.  The Puerto Rican faithful will get a chance to see their legend one last time. His opponent, an odd choice in Sadam Ali, should be just what the doctor ordered for Cotto to walk away in the sunset. Beyond a few of the early rounds when Ali’s speed and movement could be effective, this should be a fairly easy victory for Miguel.

To be fair Golden Boy Promotions attempted to secure a tougher task but failed when they attached future options on Mikey Garcia and Errol Spence. Jessie Vargas claimed the money wasn’t right it’s also rumored Danny Garcia refused the offer as well. And since we’re being fair, it’s fair to say they could have tried someone in the deep and talented junior middleweight.

“Krusher” is back; Kovalev destroys Shabranskyy – Beterbiev, Bivol, Stevenson next?

Once the most feared man in the light-heavyweight division, Sergey Kovalev went at least a little ways towards regaining that status last night in New York. In totally destroying the decent if not great Vyacheslav Shabranskyy inside two short rounds, “Krusher” regained a portion of the belts he lost to Andre Ward (the Russian dropping a controversial decision to the now-retired Ward last year and being stopped in this year’s return fight).

Yuriorkis Gamboa keeps his career alive – just; Gamboa awarded controversial decision win over Jason Sosa

Going into last night’s super-featherweight fight with Jason Sosa, one-time potential superstar Yuriorkis Gamboa was under no illusions: it was a fight he had to win or his career was over. Well, the former WBA and IBF featherweight champion got the win, but it was mighty close. And controversial.

Gamboa faced a determined former WBA super-featherweight champion in Jason Sosa and after ten rounds the New York crowd firmly felt the younger man’s hand should have been raised. Instead, 35 year old Gamboa (the Cuban will turn 36 next month) was awarded a ten-round majority verdict after an exciting, drama-filled bout.

Danny Jacobs: 100-percent I win the rematch with GGG

Former WBA middleweight ruler Danny Jacobs still believes, and he is still hoping. “The Miracle Man” fully believes he executed the perfect game-plan when he boxed world champ Gennady Golovkin back in March and that the 12 round decision that went to GGG should have gone to him – or, worst case scenario, the fight was a draw.

Jacobs, 33-2(29) in speaking with Premiere Boxing Champions, as quoted by RingTV.com, said he is absolutely certain he wins the rematch with the unbeaten Triple-G if there is one.
