Sam Sexton comes through hard 12 rounds to win British heavyweight title, decisions Gary Cornish
Last night in Edinburgh, Scotland 33 year old Sam Sexton won the vacant British heavyweight title with a grueling 12 round points win over Scottish hero Gary Cornish. After 12 at times exciting, at times messy rounds, Sexton of Norwich prevailed by scores of 116-113, 116-114 and 115-114.

Christian “Chimpa” Gonzalez (18-1, 15 KOs) confirmed yet again that he is one of the best and brightest prospects of the exclusive Golden Boy Promotions stable with a hard-earned eight-round unanimous decision victory against former WBC Super Featherweight Champion Gamaliel “El Platano” Diaz (40-18-3, 19 KOs) of Michoacan, Mexico in the main event of the latest edition of LA FIGHT CLUB at the Belasco Theater in Downtown Los Angeles and televised live nationally on Estrella TV’s Boxeo Estelar. The charismatic knockout artist of Buena Park, Calif. won with scores of 79-72, 79-72 and 76-75 in a tough fight held in the super lightweight division.
Results: Vaughn Alexander defeats Elvin Ayala
Mohegan Sun’s Rising Stars Boxing Series presented by Main Events completed its third successful installment tonight at the Arena at Mohegan Sun. In the main event, Rising Stars’ middleweight prospect Vaughn Alexander dazzled fans with a heart-stopping battle against local fan-favorite Elvin Ayala. The bout started slow with both competitors feeling each other out. In the fifth round, Alexander began to turn on the heat. In the seventh, Alexander refused to let a bloody broken nose slow him down. He ignored the hometown cheers for Ayala and sent Ayala to the canvas in brutal fashion. The referee stopped the contest at 1:42 of round seven.
Results: O’Sullivan stops Quigley
The fighting Irish illustrated the meaning behind the famous moniker tonight as Irishman Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan (26-2, 18 KOs) battled Englishman Nick Quigley (15-3, 3 KOs) to a fourth-round technical knockout victory in the televised main event on Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN.

O’Sullivan and Quigley both came out swinging from the first bell and went toe-to-toe, with each fighter bloodied from the action. O’Sullivan received a cut as the two middleweights fought for dominance. Ultimately, the referee took note of Quigley’s decreased ability to stand solidly on his feet after a big right was landed by O’Sullivan and waved off the fight in the fourth round.
Mairis Breidis decisions Mike Perez to advance in WBSS tournament, retains WBC cruiser title
Tonight in Riga, Latvia, defending WBC cruiserweight champ Mairis Breidis retained his belt and also advanced in the WBSS tournament by way of a unanimous decision victory over Mike Perez. Local hero Breidis, now 23-0(18) won by scores of 116-110, 115-111 and 114-112. Perez, who was mightily disappointed by his defeat, is now 22-3(14).
Tonight’s fight was far from a classic, with an almost shocking amount of holding witnessed, with defending champ Breidis being guilty of initiating most of it. There was a clash of heads in the third-round, with Breidis suffering a nasty cut to his left eye. Perez was docked a point by the referee.

Unbeaten featherweights Leduan Barthelemy (13-0-1, 7 KOs) and Eduardo Ramirez (20-0-3, 7 KOs) fought to an exciting split draw in their 10-round brawl that headlined Premier Boxing Champions TOE-TO-TOE TUESDAYS on FS1 and BOXEO DE CAMPEONES on FOX Deportes Tuesday night from the Cannery Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
The back-and-forth battle saw Barthelemy attempt to take advantage of his length early while Ramirez fought hard to do damage on the inside. By round four, Ramirez had begun to break through Barthelemy’s defense and by the sixth round he connected with Barthelemy repeatedly with no response to score a huge round in his favor.
Yunier Dorticos Stops Dmitry Kudrayshov
WBA cruiserweight champion Yunier Dorticos (22-0) from Cuba fought Russian boxer Dmitry Kudryashov (21-2) in San Antonio, Texas in a quarterfinal of the WBSS tournament with the WBA title on the line. The WBC Silver Title held by the Russian was not at stake.
