Cleverly to melt down to light heavyweight to fight on 4/11, wants Braehmer

Nathan Cleverly is going to need to drop a ton of weight to get down to 175 for his next fight on April 11th in Lees. He’s moving from cruiserweight back down to light heavyweight where he hopes to get a crack at WBA World light heavyweight champion Jurgen Braehmer in the near future. That fight obviously won’t happen on April 11th, but that’s the direction Cleverly is being steered in.

First, however, he’s going to need to lose 25 pounds to get down to 175. This isn’t just 25 pounds of fat though. This is 25 pounds of muscle that Cleverly slowly put on in order to move up to cruiserweight. He won two out of his three fights in that weight class, but after his lethargic performance in losing to Tony Bellew last November, Cleverly decided he should move back down to light heavyweight.

Is Pacquiao’s management trying to call the shots with Mayweather?

If Floyd Mayweather Jr wants the mega-fight against Manny Pacquiao then he’s going to need to hurry up and finish the negotiations in the next three weeks, because Pacquiao’s personal assistant Michael Koncz is saying that the Pacquiao-Mayweather negotiations have until the end of the month before they go in another direction and start looking for another opponent.

History has proven, that negotiations between team Mayweather Jr. and team Pacquiao mean very little. After numerous attempts, the result has always yielded zero progress.

This time around, Mayweather Jr. called out Pacquiao in the most direct fashion thus far, by naming the date he is willing to fight. After a consistent back-and-forth between the two fighters via various social media outlets, according to Bob Arum the negotiations are slowly moving forward.

Still, it seems as though team Pacquiao is not willing to play this game for too long, wasting time and losing an opportunity to secure another big fight if need be.

Wladimir Klitschko vs. Bryant Jennings a no-go?

It was assumed by many, that Wladimir Klitschko vs. Bryant Jennings was a solid go for April 25, 2015, at the Barclays Center in New York.

Alas this happens to be far from fact. According to Berndt Boente, Wladimir’s manager, their negotiations with team Jennings have hit a wall, and team Kliltschko is still looking for an opponent.

Should Bernard Hopkins Retire From Boxing?

When forty nine year old ring legend Bernard Hopkins lost his light heavyweight title to the much younger thirty one year old Sergey Kovalev this past November it begs the question, is it time for Bernard ‘The Executioner’ aka ‘The Alien,’ to finally call it a day and step down and retire from the ring? After all he has been fighting professionally for 26 years and he has been to the top of the mountain several times and he has beaten many fellow world champions along the way including the likes of Roy Jones Junior, Kelly Pavlik, Ronald ‘Winky, Wright,’ Antonio Tarver, Oscar De La Hoya, Felix Trinidad, and, among others, Jean Pascal. The victory over Pascal was incredible enough that he could accomplish such a feat in 2011 at the age of forty six to break George Foreman’s record of having won a world title at the age of forty five let alone for him to still be fighting near the top of his profession as he approaches fifty years old, which he turns this month, because after all he still gave a good account of himself against Kovalev even if he was clearly outpointed.

After Jermain “Bad Intentions” Taylor (33-4-1, 20 KOs) suffered consecutive devastating knockout losses to Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham in his one and only appearance during the Super Six World Boxing Classic Tournament in 2009 which he left due to bleeding in his brain, most boxing fans didn`t believe that he would ever fight again, let alone become a world champion for the second time.

Taylor; however, did just that when he upset Sam Soliman for the International Boxing Federation Middleweight Title in October to became my Comeback Fighter of the Year.

Amir Khan wants Pacquiao fight

After his recent, and fourth in a row victory over Devon Alexander (26-3-0), Amir Khan (30-3-0) seems to be back on the paved track to a mega-fight.

After a loss to Lamont Peterson in 2011, and a brutal TKO loss to Danny Garcia in 2012, Khan’s future seemed to be escaping his grasp. In boxing, a couple losses in a row can nosedive a career, weakening a possibility for a huge payday.

Canelo determined to fight on May 2nd, says De La Hoya

Former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KOs) is doggedly determined to fight on the Mexican holiday Cinco de Mayo, even if means that he won’t be facing WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32 KOs). The two fighters are still negotiating a fight for that date, but there’s no way of knowing if they’ll be able sign for the fight.

Canelo’s promoter Oscar de La Hoya says that Canelo will still be fighting on that date if the Cotto fight doesn’t happen. This means that unless Canelo gets a really good opponent to face him like James Kirkland or Gennady Golovkin, he’s not going to be able to bump Floyd Mayweather off the date.

Deontay Wilder vs. Bermane Stiverne only 13 days away

The Bernane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KOs) and Deontay Wilder (32-0, 32 KOs) heavyweight clash is only 13 days away before the two large fighters battle it out on January 17th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Stiverne, 36, has been pretty quiet in the build up to the fight, as he’s taken a lot of verbal and written abuse from the 6’7” Deontay.

Stiverne’s quite nature comes across to some boxing fans as him being intimidated by the hard punching Wilder. However, Stiverne has always been a quiet fighter, so this is kind of the norm for him. He does his speaking in the ring with his fists rather than talking trash outside of it.
