Provodnikov Hungry For Knowledge: “I practically don’t know anything”

It didn’t take long for Ruslan Provodnikov to make a name for himself in the sport of boxing. Over the years he has chiseled an image for himself, one of a champion with a granite chin, unstoppable stamina and a burning heart.

When crossing the ropes, Provodnikov is expected to throw an unbelievable volume of punches, while his opponent across the ring, knowing this, prepares for a long and painful night; war,

Nevertheless, Provodnikov is as humble as professional fighters get. In a recent interview, Ruslan admitted that he knows very little when it comes to boxing, and is always hungry and open for more knowledge.

Brook: I’m ready to do anything to get the win against Porter

YouTube video
British welterweight Kell Brook’s moment of truth is just one day away before he faces IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (32-0, 22 KOs) on Saturday at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Brook, 28, has spent 10 years of his long career building up to this moment and now it’s his time to show whether he belongs at the world level or if he’s just another fighter with inflated record courtesy of long years of weak match-making to keep him unbeaten.

Brook says he’s willing to do anything he has to try and win. Well, he may indeed need to do that on Saturday night if he discovers that boxing Porter from the outside is a fail. In that case, Brook will need to mix it up with Porter to try and out-slug him. Brook looked horrible in one fight in his career where opponent forced his way to the inside and exposed him in his first bout against Carson Jones.

The Recent Uproar…

The recent uproar regarding world champions Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia’s recent opponents has sparked a large amount of friction between the promoters, fighters, journalists and fans.

Fans, and journalists, who must be considered the most dedicated versions of fans, have displayed their frustrations with the recent choices of opponents for the top fighters in the sport. Generally speaking of course, those watching and writing about the sport are expecting to see the best fight the best, or seeing the best fight those that could be the best.

Is Hopkins overmatched against Kovalev?

Is Hopkins overmatched against Kovalev?

49-year-old Bernard Hopkins (55-6-2, 32 KOs) has surprised a lot of boxing fans by being able to come back from a 12 round decision loss to Chad Dawson in 2012 and turning things around by winning his last three fights against Tavoris Cloud, Karo Murat and Beibut Shumenov.

Hopkins was seen as nearing the end of his career when Dawson beat him, but Hopkins has definitely turns things around with his last three wins. While it was nice that Hopkins beat Cloud, Murat and Shumenov, the wins were still largely shallow ones given how vulnerable all three of those fighters were.

The Next Big Thing in Boxing: The Fight Network

One of the significant issues in boxing is its lack of media coverage on the sport. Sports radio, television and newspapers rarely discuss boxing bouts or topics, unless it pertains to Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather, making the internet the only place to obtain information. It doesn`t help that ESPN Wednesday and Friday Night Fights remain the only television venue to watch boxing without individuals having to pay additional money to subscribe to HBO or Showtime and even more money for their paper view events.

Jermain Taylor vs. Sam Soliman fight could be televised by ESPN on October 8th

Jermain Taylor vs. Sam Soliman fight could be televised by ESPN on October 8th

The upcoming fight between IBF middleweight champion Sam Soliman (44-11, 18 KOs) and former IBF/WBA/WBC/WBO middleweight champ Jermain Taylor (32-4-1, 20 KOs), which had been scheduled for October 4th, could be moved to October 8th and be televised by ESPN on a Wednesday night special, according to Dan Rafael.

It’s unclear if HBO or Showtime made an attempt to televise the fight. Taylor, 36, has been out of the loop for five years since his knockout losses to Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham, so it wouldn’t be all that surprising if HBO and Showtime opted to pass up on the idea of televising the fight.

The newer boxing fans are likely not that familiar with Taylor, as he’s not done anything special since 2006. He lost Kelly Pavlik twice starting in 2007, and then suffered the back to back defeats in 2009 to Froch and Abraham.

Deontay Wilder wants quick KO on Saturday against Gavern

This Saturday night #1 WBC Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KOs) will be putting his guarantee world title shot against Bermane Stiverne at risk when he faces 37-year-old high level journeyman Jason Gavern (25-16-4, 11 KOs) in a 10 round bout at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

If Deontay loses to Gavern, then he won’t be getting a shot at the WBC title later this year. You have to wonder what Stiverne is thinking about this fight. Is he hoping Deontay will lose or is he praying that he’ll get rid of Gavern so that the two of them can meet in November for a showdown?
