Srisaket Sor Rungvisai destroys Roman Gonzalez – Results

WBC super flyweight world champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (43-4-1, 39 KOs) dealt former multiple world champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (46-2, 38 KOs) a terrible defeat in knocking him out in the 4th round on Saturday night in the main event of the “SuperFly” Card on HBO Championship Boxing at the StubHub Center in Carson. California.

Rungvisai was hitting Gonzalez at will with huge power shots in rounds 1-3. In the 4th, Rungvisai knocked Gonzalez down hard with a big shot to the head. Gonzalez got back up but was quickly knocked down a second time.

This Saturday night the rematch between Roman Gonzalez and Srisaket Sor Rungvisai at the super flyweight division along with the rest of the HBO tripleheader could be the spark that ignites round two if you will of the Flyweight Wars. Several years ago a plethora of fights took place at the flyweight division sparking a round-robin feel amongst 7 or 8 fighters. Fight fans, those who appreciate the considerable talents of the smaller men in particular, are bracing for a great action fight this Saturday night in Carson, California. Dubbed “Superfly,” Saturday’s card is of course headlined by Srisaket Sor Rungvisai-Roman Gonzalez II.

Back in March, the Thai fighter and the Nicaraguan put on a terrific fight, one that saw “Chocolatito,” who was closing in on greatness – greatness he may still achieve – lose for the first time as a pro. Falling to 46-1 and losing his WBC 115 pound belt, Gonzalez lost what many fans felt was a debatable decision. But now, although he still believes he won the fight in March, Gonzalez is determined to do everything he has to do so as to get revenge.

There have been a number of big boxing upsets this year (and, if the betting wishes of the high rollers are to come true, there will be another one witnessed this Saturday night in Las Vegas) but to many, the respective losses Manny Pacquiao and Roman Gonzalez suffered rank as the biggest shocks of 2017.

As fans know, Gonzalez, when closing in on Rocky Marciano’s 49-0 ledger, fell foul of teak-tough Thai fighter Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (AKA Wisaksil Wangek) in March, the Nicaraguan losing his super-flyweight crown. While in July, Pacquiao lost his welterweight title to big Australian outsider Jeff Horn in another stunning decision.

In what is great news for fight fans, the WBC has ordered their newly crowned super-flyweight champion, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai to make an immediate defence against Roman Gonzalez, the man he upset to take the belt in a terrific action fight on March 18.

Arguably The Fight Of The Year thus far in 2017, the 12 rounder was crammed full of action, blood and guts and sheer drama. Gonzalez as we know was 46-0 upon entering the fight, but the tough (and rough, even dirty, with his head mostly) Thai fighter who was a whopping great underdog, dropped “Chocolatito” early on and got the better of a number of the furious exchanges.
