Rubio stripped down in a vain attempt to make the weight, but it was clear he wasn’t going to be able to make the weight. By not making weight, Rubio will lose $100,000 of his $450,000 purse for the fight. This obviously was poor planning on Rubio’s part because the warning signs were there a month ago when Rubio weighed in at 174.5 pounds. In contrast, Golovkin weighed just 165 pounds at the time.

Rubio will beat Golovkin by fighting smart, says Robert Garcia

Marco Antonio Rubio - WBC interim middleweight champion Marco Antonio Rubio (59-6-1, 51 KOs) is a big boxing underdog for his fight next Saturday night against WBA Super World Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs) on HBO from the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Rubio’s trainer Robert Garcia says he’s watched enough of the 32-year-old Golovkin’s past fights to know that he’s got flaws that Rubio can exploit on Saturday night.

Marco Antonio Rubio - While many boxing fans see WBC interim middleweight champion Marco Antonio Rubio (59-6-1, 51 KOs) as a lamb being led to the slaughter by WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs) on October 18th, Rubio’s trainer Robert Garcia thinks that Rubio, with his Mexican style, will give Golovkin all kinds of problems.

Garcia thinks it comes down to Rubio having real Mexican blood while Golovkin is just someone that is attempting to adopt the Mexican style of fighting. In other words, Rubio is the real thing while Golovkin is just trying to copy what he sees instead of what’s inside of him.
