Hearn says Joshua-Klitschko is “almost there,” puts an end to rumors that say Haye will face AJ next

While promoter Eddie Hearn will not jump the gun in prematurely announcing the big heavyweight match-up he really wants to make, in Wladimir Klitschko-Anthony Joshua, the Matchroom boss has squashed all rumors that, until today, continued to build, saying David Haye Vs. Joshua would happen next for both British stars.

Speaking with Sky Sports, Hearn said that, no, Haye (who recently tweeted that he will be fighting again on Dec 10, a possible date for Joshua-Klitschko if it is made) will NOT be next for the reigning IBF heavyweight champ.

Hearn says three names in the mix for Bellew’s Oct. 15 defence: Wlodarczyk, Flores, Briedis

WBC cruiserweight king Tony Bellew is all set for his first title defence. His promoter Eddie Hearn told Sky Sports today how the defence will top a Liverpool show on October 15, with an official announcement of the opponent and other details next week. For now, Hearn says there are three names in the mix: former WBC and IBF champ Krzysztof Wlodarczyk, former WBA title challenger B.J Flores and unbeaten WBC mandatory challenger Mairis Briedis.

“It’s a full division, we have Wlodarczyk, B.J Flores, who has been calling Tony out; that’s a fun fight,” Hearn said. “And we have a mandatory, Mairis Briedis. Hopefully we’ll have an announcement next week.”

Eddie Hearn: “Don’t be surprised to see Eubank-Golovkin in September”

Though there are certainly plenty of critics and cynics who say the fight will either never happen at all or that it is a gross mismatch anyway, Chris Eubank Junior’s promoter Eddie Hearn insists talks are well underway, at an advanced stage even, for his fighter to face unbeaten pound-for-pound star Gennady Golovkin. In fact Hearn, in speaking with Sky Sports News HQ, said we should “not be surprised to see Eubank-Golovkin in September.”

Hearn said Eubank must first take care of, and look good against, Tom Doran in defence of his British middleweight belt on June 25th (on the Joshua-Breazeale card in London) but that it could then be an assault on GGG’s collection of world titles.

Joshua’s first title challenger down to three likely names; Hearn says A.J wants “a real fight”

Joshua's first title challenger down to three likely names; Hearn says A.J wants “a real fight”

Newly crowned IBF heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua is already back in training after his explosive yet easy 2nd-round stoppage of Charles Martin. A.J doesn’t quite know who he will be fighting in his first defence as champion, but he is taking no shortcuts in training as he gets ready for his maiden defence. And his promoter Eddie Hearn, in speaking with Sky Sports today, said the short-list now consists of three likely names – all of them American fighters.

“The IBF put out there new rankings today and we have to box someone in the top-15 of those rankings,” the Matchroom boss said. “We expect from those rankings the likes of Bermane Stiverne, Eric Molina, Dominic Breazeale. There has been big interest from US broadcasters. I think a US opponent makes sense. These are real guys and he wants a real fight.”

Eddie Hearn says this November is a possibility for Fury-Joshua showdown

Eddie Hearn says this November is a possibility for Fury-Joshua showdown

British promoter Eddie Hearn is working on making a number of big fights this year, and top of the list is a potential all-British blockbuster up at heavyweight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. Hearn, in his column for Mail Online, wrote how he is somewhat amused by people suggesting, via social media and on the boxing web sites, that he would not let his fighter Joshua in with Fury so soon.

Not so, writes Hearn, who feels the fight is a natural and will be worked on for as soon as this November providing both heavies win their next fight. Fury will of course fight former champ Wladimir Klitschko at a still-to-be-determined date (possibly June 4th), while Joshua will challenge IBF ruler Charles Martin next month. The would-be unification would be a “huge fight,” Hearn writes and that “all being well we might make Joshua-Fury in November.”

Eddie Hearn: Brook-Khan edging closer

Hearn says he had a conversation in the last day with one of Khan’s people and he now believes the fight is possible. If the fight can be made, it will be televised on Sky Box Office pay-per-view, and it will do very well. It might also sell out Wembley Stadium.

Hearn expects Brook-Khan deal to be done by next week

If promoter Eddie Hearn gets his way, he’ll be putting together the Kell Brook vs. Amir Khan fight together by next week. Hearn says that he hopes he can get a deal done between the two British welterweights by next week now that Khan has been passed over by Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao for his April fight.

Hearn has impressed upon Khan the need to get the Brook fight done in the next couple of weeks or else he’ll miss out on the fight for the summer. It’s unclear who Hearn has waiting in the wings to match against Brook other than Kevin Bizier, but he seems to think that there’s a rush for Khan to make the fight.

Eddie Hearn: 'We Might Make A Purse Bid For Klitschko/Fury

Matchroom Boxing chief Eddie Hearn has this evening dropped something of a minor bombshell by announcing that he is considering making a purse bid to stage the upcoming clash between Wladimir Klitschko and Tyson Fury that, as yet, the two camps concerned have been unable to agree terms for.

Hearn, who has nothing to do with either fighter, and enjoys an exclusive broadcasting deal with Sky Sports, has told the channel that should the scheduled purse bid go ahead in Panama he may well be in attendance. The deadline for a deal to be reached to prevent the bid happening is Monday.

Eddie Hearn Thinks Callum Smith 'One Fight From World Titles'

Following the headline performance on last night’s All or Nothing card from Liverpool’s Echo Arena in which hometown boy Callum Smith came through his first significant test with a points win over Frenchman Christopher Rebrasse, promoter Eddie Hearn has confidently asserted he believes his fighter is now just the one fight away from a potential world title opportunity.

With his WBC #3 ranking going into the fight, Smith is now perfectly placed to be challenging the winner of the upcoming clash between champion Badou Jack and “St.” George Groves which is to take place toward the end of August.

Bob Arum Casts Doubt On Brook v Rios / Eddie Hearn Believes It A Go

It has been assumed now for some time that Brandon Rios will be traveling to the UK in September to challenge IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook on the same date Floyd Mayweather fights his 49th and ‘final’ fight – the 12th.

However in a chat with assembled media at the Bradley/Vargas presser, Arum has now spoken out to insinuate the fight perhaps isn’t as near to done as we think.

Earlier this week Rios’ trainer Robert Garcia told fighthype that as far as both he and Brandon were concerned, Rios’ manager Cameron Dunkin had done a solid job negotiating terms and that both fighter and trainer were happy with what was on the table.
