Eddie Hearn weighs in on the controversial Rose stoppage

Eddie Hearn, the promoter for Matchroom Sports had an interview with IFL TV this Monday after the 1st round stoppage of former world title challenger Brian Rose. Rose stepped in with journeyman Carson Jones who has been remembered after 2 losses to IBF champion Kell Brook. After an awfully bad start for Jones, which saw him rocked, and hurt early, he then would come back and win by TKO in the same round. Rose was certainly hurt in the fight, but the stoppage was controversial as he was not given a chance to fight back or prove that he was in position to survive the round and come out again for the second. Usually you see experienced fighters like Rose given a moment to see where they are at before the referee jumps in.

Brian Rose catastrophically stopped in one

Disaster struck for Blackpool’s Brian Rose tonight when Carson Jones, 37-10-3 (27KO’s) dramatically stopped him inside the first round.

Rose, 26-3-1 (8KO’s) was stepping in the ring for only the second time since his unsuccessful WBC World light middleweight title tilt against Demetrius Andrade, when he was stopped in 7. The first of which was an encouraging first round stoppage over Ignacio Lucero Fraga in Leeds in October.

Anthony Mundine faces Carson Jones on January 29th in Australia

mundine1The soon to be 39-year-old Anthony Mundine (45-5, 27 KO’s) will continue his slow climb to a title shot at 154 when he faces welterweight Carson Jones (35-10-3, 25 KO’s) on January 29th in a scheduled 10 round bout at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Boondall, Queensland, Australia. Mundine recently beat 42-year-old Shane Mosley by a 6th round stoppage last November in Australia. Mundine looked huge compared to the smallish Mosley in that fight and it was odd-looking fight.

For fans who don’t remember, Mundine has fought most of his career in the super middleweight division and he previously captured the WBA 168 lb. title and held it on two separate occasions. Mundine has come down in weight in hopes of getting a big fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. Mundine is currently ranked #4 WBA, #10 WBC in the junior middleweight division, and is striking distance to a title shot against Mayweather, if he doesn’t vacate his belt.

Brook defeats Jones on controversial stoppage; Campbell destroys Harris

brook2Undefeated Kell Brook (30-0, 20 KO’s) took out his frustration at missing a title shot against Devon Alexander by destroying #8 IBF, Carson Jones (35-10-3, 25 KO’s) by an 8th round TKO tonight at the MS3 Craven Park in Hull, England. The fight ending was marred when referee Michael Alexander stepped in and stopped the fight while Jones was still fighting back in the 8th.

Jones had his back to the ropes and had just taken some hard shots, but he still looked fine and had his guard up. The referee didn’t like the way he looked and pulled the plug at 1:07 of the round.

Carson Jones: If Brook dies, he dies

#8 IBF Carson Jones (35-9-3, 25 KO’s) must have pulled out some of his old Rocky tapes to get one Ivan Drago’s lines to use on #1 IBF, welterweight contender Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) at their final press conference to hype their rematch on Saturday night at the Craven Park Stadium, Yorkshire, UK.
