DeGale: I’ll be world champion by the end of year

degale5Super middleweight contender James DeGale (15-1, 10 KO’s) defeated Sebastien Demers (31-6, 11 KO’s) by a 2nd round TKO last night in Quebec, Canada. It wasn’t surprising that DeGale defeated Demers so easily. After all, Demers came into the fight with three straight losses and two of them were early stoppage losses to Renan St. Juste and Brian Vera.

One of the defeats was to Allan Green, a fighter that was taken apart over and over again in the Super Six tournament. What was surprising is DeGale saying he’ll be a world champion by the end of this year.

DeGale said “I will be a world champion by the end of this year.”

Super middleweight contender James DeGale (15-1, 10 KO’s) totally annihilated Canadian fighter Sebastien Demers (31-6, 11 KO’s) in the 2nd round in a fight that arguably should have never been made in the first place on Friday night at the Hilton Lac Leamy, Gatineau, Quebec, Canada. The ending of the fight was a simple one; DeGale hit Demers with a left uppercut and Demers reacted to the shot by turning his back on DeGale and walking several feet and then taking a knee.

Kell Brook vs. Carson Jones II rematch on July 13th in Yorkshire

brook453Unbeaten welterweight contender Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) will get a second shot at proving that he’s the better fighter than American Carson Jones (35-9-3, 25 KO’s) when they face each other on July 13th in a rematch at the Craven Park Stadium, Hull, Yorkshire, UK.

Brook and Jones fought last year in July with Brook winning a controversial 12 round majority decision in Sheffield. The fight looked to be more of a draw, if not an outright win by Jones because Brook took major punishment in the last six rounds of the fight and was staggering around the ring in the 12th after taking a serious lambasting from Jones.

Golovkin vs. Macklin: Matthew with a tough task ahead of him on 6/29

golovkin4534#11 WBA, Matthew Macklin (29-4, 20 KO’s) will be getting a title shot next month against WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (26-0, 23 KO’s) on June 29th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Macklin is mostly known to U.S casual boxing fans for his spirited effort in dragging Sergio Martinez into the 11th round last year in March before getting stopped by him.

Although Macklin lost the fight, he got a lot of credit for having given Martinez a tough time along the way. Now, however, Macklin is going to have to prove himself again, but this time against a younger fighter with more power and arguably more skills than Martinez in Gennady Golovkin.

WBC drops Khan from top 15 welterweight rankings

khan1For some reason the World Boxing Council (WBC) has dropped Amir Khan from their top 15 welterweight rankings after his struggle to defeat 33-year-old Julio Diaz last month on April 27th. Before that fight the WBC had elevated Khan to #2 in their welterweight rankings despite the fact that Khan had never fought at welterweight before and had lost two out of his last three fights.

It was hard to understand what the WBC saw in Khan to put him at #2 at 147 because normally fighters that has lost 2 out of their last 3 fights aren’t given a bump in the rankings.

Khan wants Mayweather; not interested in Kell Brook fight

khan43Former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan makes it perfectly clear that he doesn’t have even the slightest amount of interest in facing fellow Brit Kell Brook at any time in the future.

Khan sees no upside in such a fight and fears that the boxing public wouldn’t care about the fight and Brook would likely pull out of the fight with an injury excuse anyway. Khan’s main interest is in getting a big fight against WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. next year.

Charr: If I knockout Haye, I’ll get a rematch with Vitali

haye343434#8 WBC Manuel Charr (23-1, 13 KO’s) has a near hopeless dream of getting a rematch against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, who made short work of Charr in stopping him in the 4th round last year in September. Charr has it in his head that all he has to do to get another nice paying bout against Vitali is for him to beat David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) next month in their fight on June 29th in the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK.

Charr said to Sky Sports “He’s [Vitali] never fought David Haye and Haye has called him out for three years now. Vitali said he wanted to knock him out, shut him up and all this other rubbish, but he never did anything about it. The fight has never happened. I won’t let Vitali do the same to me. I want my rematch and to get it I have to knockout David Haye on June 29th.”
