Unbeaten at 32-0(18) Garcia looked sensational in relieving Amir Khan of his WBA 140-pound title and then defending it against the always-dangerous Lucas Matthysse. But since then, “Swift” has apparently lost a step. Struggling with Mauricio Herrera and Lamont Peterson down at 140 (and blasting out woefully overmatched Rod Salka), Garcia has since looked somewhat ordinary in defeating Paulie Malignaggi and, last time out, in winning the vacant WBC 147-pound belt, Robert Guerrero.

Tyson Fury again promises to retire after Klitschko rematch; “100-percent”
Fight fans don’t believe him, but heavyweight champ Tyson Fury has again stated how he will retire after his upcoming July 9th rematch with former champion Wladimir Klitschko. At the official press conference in Manchester last week, Fury vowed to KO Klitschko “in a round,” but then, after the German press conference the following day, a far more subdued Fury said he does not care if he wins or loses the fight dubbed “Repeat or Revenge.”
Mayweather/Hearn plan Money Team Vs. Matchroom one-night tournament for September in UK
Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn recently said he has no real interest in bringing back his hugely popular and successful “Prizefighter” one-night elimination tournament. However, the plans Hearn does have, in working with Floyd Mayweather’s promotional outfit The Money Team, is to stage a one-night tournament featuring fighters from both teams meeting in world title fights. Hearn told The Mail that a tournament is being eyed for this September at a venue to be decided in the UK.

The fight this Saturday, which will play out over Cinco de Mayo weekend, has split fight fans right down the middle: with half saying the fight is a good one, between two top class fighters, and the other half saying the fight is a joke, between a man who has no right fighting for the middleweight crown (Khan) and a man who should be picking on someone his own size (Canelo).

Tonight at The Copper Box, super-flyweights Jamie Conlan and Anthony Nelson engaged in a fight so fierce, so thrilling, it simply has to go down as 2016’s Fight of The Year thus far into the 12 months. Conlan took Nelson’s Commonwealth title with a body shot KO at 40-seconds of the 8th-round, to improve to 16-0(10), with Nelson, who was making the first defence of the title, falling to 11-1(2) – but the final result does not come close to telling the whole story.

Anthony Joshua will make the first defence of his newly acquired IBF heavyweight belt on June 25th, as fans know, against unbeaten Californian Dominic Breazeale. The fight will go out on Sky Sports, almost certainly on Box Office, and promoter Eddie Hearn is currently working on getting a good under-card to support the main event a number of fans think will not last too long. Joshua, a genuine star in the making, blasted Charles Martin inside two disappointing rounds to take the belt he now holds, and some people fear a similar result will be witnessed on June 25th.

Though he has never once been stopped in a fight, former light-heavyweight king Antonio Tarver has been stopped from fighting. At least Tarver – now aged 47 and last seen fighting to a draw with Steve Cunningham – has been stopped from fighting in the immediate future by The New Jersey Control Board.
Kell Brook-Jessie Vargas unification fight in talking stage for summer
Britain’s Kell Brook holds the IBF welterweight title and America’s Jessie Vargas hold the WBO 147-pound title: together they could make up a great unification fight this summer. That’s the word according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.com, who reports that the respective promoters of Brook and Vargas, Eddie Hearn and Carl Moretti, met this week and spoke about the fight. The two champions are both eager for big fights and it seems the biggest obstacle in the way of making this IBF/WBO clash is the location.
