Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. LionKing)

In a recent interview, FMJ said that he’ll have three more fights after Maidana then retire. Question is will he choose cake-walk fights like Khan, Alexander, Bradley, Broner, Molina (if he wins) and take the road of least resistance?

Or will he give fans what we really want and deserve to see by facing the best competition in the world (e.g., PacMan, 3G, Lara, Garcia, etc.)???

Floyd Mayweather the boxer cannot be separated from Floyd Mayweather the human being. After reading on the
internet what Floyd had posted about his former Fiancee, I asked myself, what would drive a person to do such a hateful thing? What could he gain from this? Why would anyone want to hurt another human being like that? Floyd is a good boxer that has earned fame and fortune. He has been blessed to have abilities that very few have. He has been put in a position in life where he could reach millions of people positively. He could do so much good. Instead, we see a man that curses out his father, threatens his children and the mother of his children, threatens security guards, rumored to have sent out his hit men, goes on a racist rant about Manny Pacquiao, disrespects an elderly Larry Merchant on TV, brags about his money and materials and has a criminal record a mile long. Floyd Mayweather’s personal life is never personal since he’s the one that puts himself out there. He wants the cameras and microphones on him at all times. He is making more news outside the ring than he is inside of it. This is a tarnished fighter and a tarnished man. His unbeaten record is flawed as is his character. The world is pulling for Marcos Maidana because of who Floyd Mayweather the person is. Does anyone wonder why he has no sponsors? Who wants to be associated with someone that looks at people as if they were dirt. Floyd is the same man/boxer that had to resort to sucker punching his opponent just to make sure he won. My question to Floyd fans is Why would you support a person that does these type of cowardly things inside and outside the ring? Why would you even consider giving your money to see this disturbed individual? Boxing has always had its share of characters and not so angel like characters, but Floyd Mayweather has over stepped the boundaries of ethics, morals and values on more than one occasion. The tragedy in all this is to allow this man to treat other human beings like he does. This world has millions of children that look up to Floyd Mayweather. He has a responsibility inside and outside the boxing ring to act and treat people like they matter. I for one will never pay to see Floyd Mayweather fight again. Floyd Mayweather will continue to tarnish his already tarnished image, but he will tarnish the image of boxing and what being a boxing champion is much worse. I can’t wait to see the greatest fighter and person in boxing return. Yes, Manny Pacquiao is the total opposite of Floyd Mayweather. Manny is all that’s good and Floyd is all that’s bad.

Floyd by Argentinean AGONIZING late stoppage

Posted May 1, 2014 7:36 pm

Floyd Mayweather reaches another all time low by posting personal business about his ex fiancee having an abortion, and letting us know that’s the reason he left her. This guy needs help. Why humiliate another human being like that. This guy is such an ego maniac that he has to humiliate family, friends and fans at all costs. The boxing world and the world will be much better off when this guy retires and gets out of the spot light. He needs to take a look at himself and what he’s done before doing these types of despicable things. He will eventually get what’s coming to him, and I hope by some miracle he gets it on Saturday night. Floyd Mayweather is a good fighter even though he cherry picks most of his opponents, but as a human being he’s an embarrassment. Money and fame have consumed him, and the talk is no longer about his boxing, but more about the type of person he really is. People were thrilled when his little brother Adrien Broner was beaten to a pulp, but just imagine the celebration if a good, decent, humble caring person like Maidana were to beat him. What a celebration that would be. Good finally defeating evil. The hypocrisy of Floyd Mayweather wearing a cross around his neck speaks straight to his hypocrisy. This is not a representative of the utmost highest. I’m going to pray for Floyd Mayweather. There are kids all over looking up to this man, and look at what he radiates out to them. What an opportunity he has to touch people in a positive way. A man blessed to have his skills. All the money and fame in the world, and he throws it all away. What profit a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his soul? Pray for this man.

TJ there are no coincidences, only incidents.

Posted May 1, 2014 7:21 pm

Gentlemen, some guys don’t know MUCH about business. Its not how much product is sold. Its how much revenue and profit is generated. As of right now this Fight has the 4th highest gate receipts of all times WOW!!! It comes to show that people don’t mind paying for the BEST. When Manny was considered as the BEST his revenue was GREAT TOO. But now that he is no longer #1 P4P his revenue has been slipping. His last Fight only sold 800-850K on PPV and only sold a little over $8 million at the gate. Floyd has almost DOUBLED his gate receipts already! WOW!! It PAYS to be the BEST.

Posted May 1, 2014 6:11 pm

TJ – great post, top man :)

Posted May 1, 2014 5:29 pm

Gentlemen, fans have tired of Mayweather. Just look at the ticket sales right now. They are bad. This is another predictable win against a very nice guy (Maidana) that posses no real challenge, and smart boxing fans know this. Forget all the talk about how tough Maidana is, all fighters are tough. Maidana just doesn’t have any real boxing abilities. He can punch and take a punch, but this will be a blow out like Seattle did to Denver. Do not pay your hard earned money to see this fight card/ This card belongs on regular show Time, HBO or ESPN. Go to a sports bar or a casino if you have to see the fight because your a boxing fan. I am too, but I’m going down to the sports bar and watch this card fall apart. Here’s my picks: Mayweather wins easy decision or maybe a late round stoppage over Maidana. Khan/Collazo is a toss up, but I will go with Khan to win a decision, and Broner to win by stoppage. I hope I’m wrong om all three. By the way, Mayweathers ticket prices are higher, which makes it look like he sells more. He doesn’t. Watch the PPV numbers after the fight. Not good.

Posted May 1, 2014 4:46 pm

Ticket sales are irrelevant. Revenue generated is whats relevant. You’re obviously not a business major but number of product sold is not the factor. Gross revenue and net profit is the factor. Floyd’s Fight has already almost DOUBLED the gate revenue that Pacquiao’s last Fight generated and Pacquiao is the 2nd most popular Fighter in the World WOW!! People will pay premium price for the BEST. Diamonds and Bentleys agree with ME on that.

This weekend we just had a memorial for a young man who used to train at our gym. He was only 25 years old when he passed. I knew him for 2 years and he was the nicest, most polite person you could ever wish to meet. But, he trained like a demon, was strong as an ox and had bags of potential because he listened and he worked hard.
He died in December, just before Christmas and what none of us knew was that he was on anti-depressants. His medication was changed, something went wrong and he was found dead!

What is really freaky and has had me re-evaluate everything in my life is that the last time I saw him I joked that when I win the lottery I’d build a gym and run my own boxing team out of it. We laughed and joked and he seemed as happy as Larry.

But, what I found out is that he had a 5 year old girl and a 3 year old girl….But, it doesn’t end there. I have a 5 year old son and his 5 year old daughter is not only in the same class as my son, but they are BEST friends! Inseparable!

I have since met his partner and none of us knew about the other although apparently we had both chatted about each other to our other halves over the 2 years!

What gets me is that we would have been good gym buddies and our kids best mates!

Is it COINCIDENCE or are we part of a bigger plan?

I don’t know, but since this tragedy I have re-evaluated a lot of things in my life and some things that used to wind me up are no longer important or relevant any more!

Yep, we’re given time on this earth and it’s up to us to make the most of it, whatever small way we can.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but not to jump on another man’s, just because it’s different.

Anyway, the likes of Bill Gates and anyone who has been successful and gives back through philanthropy or teaches kids to box, play an instrument or to learn a language or to read or to become a good citizen is a positive person in my eyes.

Boxtradamus you are a delusional! A cherry picker boring racist fighter! Floyd’s legacy will be missing honor because of cherry picking fixed fights!

Posted May 1, 2014 2:13 pm

Maidana by tko. Here we go, moneys shoulder roll is to take a little off the straight right hand. Maidanas right hand is not straight at all and is clubbing, look at where the right hands landed on broiner, right by the eye and temple. that right hand landed at will, all night. Also the roll exposes moneys rightside of the body, every right handed fighter is taught to throw a double left hook. A dbl left hook will not work on money. In maidanas awkwardness he throws that right to the body under Floyd’s left elbow All day and the clubbing right hand up top similar to marquezs ko over pac man. Maidanas awkwardness and floyds age and trying to buy the clippers will be his downside. Its over! History will be made. Vamanos chino!

The issue from Canelo’s standpoint was his lack of skills. If Canelo had the skills he’ll possess in 9 years, when he’ll be 32 years old — he would have performed a lot better.

However Canelo put himself in line for a Floyd challenge in the year 2013 by beating Austin Trout when he was only 22 years old… Hence Canelo got a well paid boxing lesson which will help make him a much better boxer in the future. Anytime you fight great boxers you learn a ton of stuff.

Erislandy Lara is far from the top of his game at this particular point in time… but Lara is a very tricky and highly skilled southpaw, who could give Floyd a much sterner test than he’s ever had … and ring Floyd’s bell pretty good.

Porter, Pacquiao, and Thurman are no scrubs either… I’d like to see Floyd in one tough fight before he retires … and all of these gents could give him one.

It would be a welcome change to the Floyd fights we’ve seen to date.

Posted May 1, 2014 2:01 pm

And you would be CORRECT on that.

Posted May 1, 2014 1:31 pm

All this talk of retirement right before a big fight isn’t good. Floyd needs to stop all this nonsense and get serious! Madiana is very serious and intent on beating Floyd. To call MM a hand picked opponent, as if he has no chance at all is foolish. Floyd is in a unique position in that he can pick who he wants to fight, a position very few fighters ever get to. Just because FM picked MM doesn’t mean it’s a walk in the park for him. Canelo was a hand picked opponent who was much bigger and younger and the top Jr. middle weight in the world and Floyd made it look easy. Was the ease in which FM beat Canelo due to Canelo’s lack of skill or FM’s superior skill? I say it’s FM’s skill set.

Floyd is not Warren Buffett… Floyd is not one of the richest or most successful men on the planet. Floyd is the most financially successful boxer of all time. His fame and acclaim are similar to that of Buffett’s, who’s the most financially successful investor of all time.

It doesn’t make a big lifestyle difference if you have 600 million or 60 Billion—which is one thousand times more. It makes a whole lot of difference in the number of people you can help make rich. It makes a vast difference in the amounts you can donate to charities. But you can only bed down in one house, fly one private jet, or throw one yacht party at a time.

Floyd is looking at legacy issues right now. “Who do I fight to keep that “O”

Posted May 1, 2014 1:08 pm

““This hotel [MGM Grand] has given me everything I’ve asked for and even more. They bought me a $1.6m Bugatti the first day my fight sold out. They bought me a $400,000 watch the day of the Pacquiao-Bradley fight,” said Mayweather.”

What a scam–Floyd hasn’t fought out of Las Vegas in the last eight years and 10 fights. It’s no wonder they give him exotic gifts. Meanwhile, none of Floyd’s opponents over that period of time have had the opportunity to fight “at home.” Floyd hasn’t had to face the adversity they have. He hasn’t had to travel. Hasn’t had to suffer from jet lag, from staying in unfamiliar places and hotels, hasn’t had to pay to ship his entourage to other places.

I know it’s unlikely to happen, but I hope Maidana knocks Floyd into another universe.
Posted May 1, 2014 10:57 am

Floyd comes from Grand Rapids. You can do what he did, travel a bit, build up your name, and the plant your flag in the ground you want to stay. That’s what he did with Vegas.

Here is something else…they can all set up base in Vegas just like he did and make it their home for as long as they are boxing.

Here is one more thing, When Great Commanders of the past went on to conquer, they Great Kings did not usually go to them, they went to the Great King’s Kingdom. Floyd did that with Oscar.

I am amazed at how Floyd still motivates himself with SO much money in the bank. Thats why I don’t gamble alot. “I go into my garages and think, do I want to drive you, you, you or you.”

Newsflash, “Joy.” Bill Gates is 50 times richer than you and he NEVER braggs about his wealth. NEVER.

I hope you’re well.

Bill Gates, like America’s great industrialists Carnegie, Rockefeller, JP Morgan, Vanderbilt has realised (although it took these men until their dotage), that it is not actually about acquiring and amassing wealth that is actually satisfying, it is actually about giving back to those and acquiring a legacy of education, social assistance and upliftment and empowerment that is truly satisfying to the soul.

Carnagie became the world’s richest man and then ploughed what would be billions in today’s money into the public libraries, scientific research and education of the US system. Morgan gave to the churches, Rockefeller, biomedical research, charities, public health etc…

These men who were worth more then than the top guys today, raced to give their wealth away as philanthropists in their later lives and should be an inspiration to us all.

Bill Gates and others have seen the light. I believe that Gates has been giving away vast amounts of his fortune to good causes for many, many years now and is probably happier now than at any point in his life.

I know several wealthy people, who were born into vast fortunes and trust me money in itself does not make you happy. Everyone wants to achieve or be recognised to have achieved and I think that goal is ultimately what everyone truly aspires to.

Sadly, Forbes and all these other rich lists have misdirected what this life is truly about. That, is becoming a success and then giving back so more people can develop and share in the success to build a strong and vibrant society.

I just hope Floyd is realising this now and he sets up some long-lasting funds and invests in the people of Vegas and Michagan to leave a truly lasting legacy like those great industrialists before him. If college kids graduate thanks to him that IMHO is the best legacy that any man can leave society.

Sorry, to preach, but this is something very close to my heart and is why I work with and train young guys who want to box and will never take a penny for it. It’s called giving something back!

News Flash:

No matter how much FANBOYS talk about how Floyd performs OUTSIDE the Ring all EXPERTS agree with ME that he remains the King INSIDE the Ring. And Maidana will agree with ME on Saturday night!

Another CHAMP to soon be dethroned.

Posted May 1, 2014 10:56 am

The legendary Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao and his beautiful wife Jinkee recently welcomed their 5th child, Israel into the world. Life continues to get better for the living legend. His spectacular performance against unbeaten Timothy Bradley left viewers in awe as Manny used his speed, boxing intellect and a variety of pin point punches throughout the fight. Boxing rises to a level of excitement that reaches the sky every time Manny Pacquiao fights. There are no other boxers today that take command of the world’s attention like Manny. Recently there were fights that involved Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter. Both guys would not be recognized outside of the boxing ring. Saturday there is a fight between Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana. There’s no excitement anywhere. Real sports fans don’t have much interest. Floyd Mayweather’s routine of fighting handpicked, one dimensional or inexperienced fighters has worn thin. His me, me, me look at my money and materials and my women I can buy off has fans losing interest in his particular fights. We saw fans badgering him on the All Access show. Floyd has made a fool of himself, and the ticket sales aren’t going very well. Boxing needs Manny Pacquiao to come back soon. He is currently negotiating a possible 5 fight deal that would take him through 2016. Bob Arum is rumored to have a huge offer waiting for Manny Pacquiao. Those that are against Manny signing with Arum must know that Manny Pacquiao is a very loyal, forgiving, understanding, loving and caring person that is a man of his word. Arum has made millions of dollars for Manny Pacquiao. Could he have made more money for Manny? Yes, but Manny Pacquiao has enough money today to last him and his family a life time. Manny Pacquiao is the greatest pure fighter in boxing history. His enormous popularity comes directly from his incredible boxing ability that fans love. Manny is warrior unlike like any other warrior. The living legend has taken on the best of his era. He has no fear of any man or beast. Floyd Mayweather is a lost soul bathing in his money and materials, but he lacks the respect of his peers and the public. Everyone knows that he avoided Manny Pacquiao at all costs even going as far as getting himself locked up just to avoid the greatest fighting machine of all time. Styles make fights, and Manny Pacquiao’s style would have given Mayweather fits. Mayweather would have been knocked in rounds 10-12. Trust me on this. A legend like Manny Pacquiao that carries an entire country on his shoulders has a special ability and passion that cannot be duplicated. Manny Pacquiao beats Floyd Mayweather in all areas. Speed, power, athleticism, stamina and ring generalship favor Manny. This man is not your ordinary man. No one beats Manny Pacquiao on a one fight basis, no one. Manny is the best!

Marvelous Marvin Hagler had all but retired when Sugar Ray Leonard came calling and he took 4 months to be coaxed out of retirement to face Leonard and Sugar Ray took the initiative and eventually, the win!
The moment a fighter is considering retirement is the moment he becomes vulnerable, where before he seemed impregnable.
Mayweather should get this fight over and focus only on winning it and then and only then should he consider his options. It’s happened time and again in every sport and hands the initiative over to ones rival!

The fans are also getting it hard to motivate themselves to watch your fight because you are not giving them the fight they want. So indeed, retirement is a good option. Dont expect however, that because you are retiring, that people will watch you for the “last time”. Hard sell.
