Bradley/Thurman or Bradley/Porter or Thurman/Porter aside from Pac/Floyd are the best fights that can be made in the 147 division. I’d much rather see Maidana face Matthysee.

Maidana is NOT out in the cold, it’s not like he’s flat out broke however, Maidana should not depend on Floyd to build his legacy as Floyd would only choose him because he is the weakest link of the current champions. He’s an exciting fighter but if he cannot maintain the level of energy and speed a full 12 rounds then he will not win a decision against Floyd. Having said this, this is why Floyd ignores those with these attributes like Pac and Bradley and instead fights plodders or, if he feels they throw too many punches, he’ll insist they dehydrate and leave their soul in the ring.

Maidana is very hot right now People that didn’t know him before now know his name . With that said Maidana vs Danny Garcia would be a good seller to fans . I’m sure Show Time would get great ratings for this fight . Garcia wants to move up to 147 lbs .

Maidana is HOT right now so the sky is the limit for the little bulldog.

Shawn Porter would be a good fight for Chino, Porter just beat Devon Alexander, who beat Chino so I’m sure that would be an interesting fight for fans

Broker himself wanted an immediate rematch, said so himself, Uncle Roga said Maidana too slow, but with the immense popularity and fan friendly style the sky’s the limit for Maidana. Dude is Latino too can have a huge fan base in a short time.

Maidana against Pacman, Khan II, Broner II, Danny Garcia or an all-Argentina battle with Lucas Matthysse are all good fights. That last one would probably be a war! Maidana can be matched up well. Let’s have some positivity. Even Maidana-Malignaggi is decent. Merry Christmas, everyone!

Posted December 25, 2013 11:44 am

I’m thinking that a Maidana/Malignaggi fight is on the way.

There goes that media talkin bad after a good win.

Joseph, there was supposed to be a question mark at the end of the last sentence in the third paragraph of my last post. :)

Losing patience!

If not Mayweather then would like to see rematch with Khan. Khan dont deserve Mayweather and probably dont deserve Maidana right now BUT would love to see Khan knocked all round the ring again. This time Maidana stops him.Khan wont go near him now though. Light punchers from now on for Khan. Hence Mayweather.

what? marcos maidana is on top of the f***ing world right now.are you kidding? because of his vulnerabilities,he will be sought after an array of fighters and belt holders.if he walked away from boxing right now his career would have been a total success. regardless of the press, boxing doesn’t revolve around floyd jr. a maidana vs provodnikov fight if marketed properly is pure box office as a co-feature to say a danny garcia vs.tim bradley card. don’t be surprised if maidana gets floyd in may. floyd likes to fool the public.

Posted December 25, 2013 7:38 am

Pac is not in the discussion because its a waste of time to think Arum will let him fight anyone outside of top rank. Thats why all the talk of Floyd fighting Manny was a waste or breathe just like Bradley will be in the same boat only fighting other top rank fighters…

Posted December 25, 2013 6:40 am

Someone explain to me why Pacquiao is not even in the equation for Maidana in this article? Pacquiao Maidana Mathysse Garcia Provodnikov. Let these guys duke it out for bragging rights. I wanna add Mayweather but he probably doesn’t want to tussle with any of these guys.

Posted December 25, 2013 4:56 am

Maidana can step down and fight PAC if he can’t get a big fight.

Posted December 25, 2013 3:28 am

Big Ham

Marcos Madaina pudge 161lbs night of the fight. Miguel Cotto 154lbs weight class but small for the division. How about Cotto vs Madaina at a 151lb catchweight. It Marcos loses he still keeps his title at 147.. You gotta admit that would be a great action fight with a ton of hype.

Mr Herron-agree, maidana is a house hold name….he will get another biggish name and wont b far away from getting a fight with a super star.

Posted December 25, 2013 2:02 am

Joseph Herron

Guys, Maidana is a star now and one of the biggest attractions GBP has at Welterweight…Maidana is not going to be left out in the cold…that is rubbish.

This is a great problem to have for GBP…they have another marquee attraction on their hands. When is that ever a bad thing for a promoter?

All the BS is cheap… Floyd’s scared!! PERIOD!

First it was drug tests demands. When that got tired it was “I’m in the check cashin bizness and need $100 mil to fight” When that didn’t work, now it’s Manny missed his chance and is no longer worthy worthy of letting Floyd cash that $100 mil check for TMT! And now that people see through that, it’s Manny’s gotta leave Arum to get a fight… I mean how stupid does Floyd’s fans have to be to not see Floyd is a GIANT CHICKEN who’s not only insulting their intellect, but is mocking them behind their backs for being so gullible!!

Posted December 25, 2013 12:16 am

Maidana just scored a major upset victory over a highly-touted and greatly over-rated opponent, yet here’s another pundit trying hard to diminish his star by smearing a bunch of negative mumbo jumbo about him over the Internet.

GBP fed Maidana to Broner as a sacrificial lamb, but Maidana not only turned the tables on Broner and GBP, he did it in devastating style. Now, don’t even go telling me Broner wanted to fight Maidana. We all know he did. But, if GBP didn’t want the fight to happen it wouldn’t have happened.

Now GBP doesn’t know what to do with Maidana. This wasn’t planned at all. So, GBP will just crap on him for a while until they figure out how to handle the guy who just kicked the living daylights out of out of their trash-talking wannabe superstar.

Broner’s got a tough road to hoe now. And with Mayweather pressing his buttons, along with GBP’s influence and clout, they’ll make sure to match Broner against “safer” opponents in the future. At least for a while.

Meanwhile, I hope Maidana is basking in his glory and milking his new found fame and fortune for all he can get. After all, he deserves it. He slayed “The Problem.”

GBP aren’t gonna let Maidana near another one of their future “ppv” stars…

Posted December 24, 2013 10:56 pm

“It’s doubtful that Golden Boy Promotions will let Broner fight Maidana again unless he forces the issue against their advice for him to move on.”

GBP punishing Maidana for beating up one of its Golden Boys. Figures.

Mansworld- Even a rematch with Khan vs Maidana would be a good one. I understand Khan is from the UK and he has fans there but Id wager that if a rematch was made between Khan and Maidana, alot of UK fans might lean towards Maidana in the rematch. There are fans there that saw Maidana/Khan fight and they know he has balls. Thats why I say and think that he is more popular than Khan even in the UK. Now more than ever.

Posted December 24, 2013 9:49 pm

I agree Kahn had big losses but overseas they are stupid Loyal. They are already talking about this match up like crazy on the internet. Skill wise yes Kahn is no Treat to Floyd but Floyd would be a fool not to take it because it will gross stupid numbers 300 mil like the Alverez bout. They will sell Vegas out mark by word this fight will be another sell out. But on paper again it makes no sense but Floyd is no fool he is in it for the Money….

Posted December 24, 2013 9:45 pm

Manworld- I still think that Maidana, if he wasnt “popular” back then he is a bigger draw than Khan NOW. Maidana was finally on Showtime’s all access, so that plus the HUGE win over Broner and his aggresive style makes it more appealing to a wider boxing audience even in the UK. Khan brings drama but Maidana NOW brings action. To me its a no brainer.

Posted December 24, 2013 9:43 pm

Mansworld- is that right? you gotta be joking. Well I guess. I dont see how he would even have fans in the UK after those losses. Those losses were big and he embarrased himself by talkin big and then getting flatten. I rather see Khan vs Broner. (speed and combinations. A match worth my money)

Posted December 24, 2013 9:36 pm

Yo Momma, Kahn is huge because of the uk, not because of his skills. they are crazy about there fighters thats why it will be a easy sell. And truth is Floyd sells 1 million ppv easy but with Kahn it will double, Maidana is not big enough yet Floyd is about one thing Money and making the biggest fights happen like Alverez and Oscar. Kahn has a huge fans base this fight will sell out the first few days after it in annouced Maidana wont do those numbers.

Posted December 24, 2013 9:25 pm

Teflon- Correction: Maidana have few followers then he beat Victor Ortiz which doubled his fanbase, after defeating Broner, its went up 10 fold. Khan was hyped up from the beginning and when he got exposed by Prescott eveyone knew he was nothing special then again with Danny Garcia. So how is Khan more popular NOW then Maidana?

Posted December 24, 2013 9:05 pm

Truth be told.

Golden Boy needs Maidana more than Maidana needs Golden Boy.

The reason: Maidana knocks guys out. Maidana has power. Fans want to see that.

If Golden Boy wants to protect its fighters and not let anybody of note fight Maidana — then Maidana should take good money and beat-up on the next tier.

Maidana can get good wins and some knockouts against Kendall Holt, Randall Bailey, Jessie Vargas, and others.

And Showtime fans will want to see it because Maidana will beat ass on these guys and knock some of them out. If Golden Boy wants to protect their guys — then fine. Maidana should just take fights and keep knocking guys out.

The key to making money in boxing is to either be as good as Floyd Mayweather — OR — knock guys out.

Posted December 24, 2013 9:01 pm

Bradley is not a option. Top ranks owns him same with Manny and Arum wont let his guys fight outside of Top rank. Maidana would be easy work for Floyd who is no broner. He is faster smarter and more accurate. Marcos will look like the Marquez fight. Maidana has options for a big bout guys like Garcia, Mallinagi and even Thurman or the young boy that beta Devon Alexander. Floyd is not his only option besides Maidana dont have a big enough following yet for Floyd to consider him. Kahn has the biggest fan base that will bring in the most Money, then look for Floyd to fight Garcia if he remains undefeated….

Posted December 24, 2013 8:45 pm

Let me put it to you this way. Mayweather saw the fight. Im betting he WOULD take on Maidana before he takes on Pacquioa. Other options:

Opponents at WELTER for Maidana:
Timothy Bradley
Juan Manuel Marquez
Manny Pacquioa
Kell Brook
Robert Guerrero
Amir Khan (rematch)

Opponents at Jr.Welter or CATCHWEIGHT for Maidana:
Danny Garcia
Ruslan Provodnikov
Mike Alvarado
Brandon Rios

Posted December 24, 2013 6:53 pm

Thats what ya think. Maidana will get good fights from now on. It was a huge win for him. Khan fought him so how special do you have to be to fight Maidana? Im not dissing him, I just fail to see why some peopel think that Maidana will be avoided. People were already line up before the Broner fight to take on Maidana. So, if anything it opens up doors for him. He is the man to beat and people will be itching to get in the ring with him.

Posted December 24, 2013 6:29 pm

i imagine broner will be very carefully matched from here on out.

Posted December 24, 2013 6:21 pm

How funny khan barely beats Molina gets a fight with Floyd, maidana smashes broner and gets nothing shows you what plans golden boy promotions already had, just like everything else it’s not based on talent and ability it’s based on if you act a clown, or have a fan base think about it this is maidanas resume Ortiz,Alexander, soto Karass, khan, broner! All those guys can beat broner fairly easy yet who’s the star of the 2

Posted December 24, 2013 5:39 pm

Why does everyone keep talking about Thurman he is nothing special at all

Posted December 24, 2013 5:38 pm

A Mayweather-Maidana fight would be a mismatch. He lost very badly to Alexander, at least by the judges score cards, I did not see the fight. Certainly a Maindana-Broner number two would be a big one. If it does not happen, I thin that it would only show that the care takers of Broner would feel that their investment would be flushed down the toilet. Maidana should try to keep busy, and just try to get the berst fight out there that he can.

Posted December 24, 2013 5:12 pm

Maidana cheated

Posted December 24, 2013 4:44 pm

Prof Konje

If Golden Boy and Top Rank could agree to something reasonable, then there would be a lot more good fights for the fans.

Forget chicken Floyd… If Broner won’t fight, Porter ain’t scared. THAT would be good!

Posted December 24, 2013 4:24 pm

A Dream night would be Sergio vs GGG and Marcos vs Provo and Denis Shafikov vs Gamboa in San Antonio.

Posted December 24, 2013 4:16 pm

So big fights are now determined by fan base? This guy is absolute crap! Oh, I guess Maidana had fan base when he fought Broner? Provodnikov is not a good fight because of low fan base? I think this guy is hiding behind the truth that against Provodnikov, Mathysse, Porter, Maidana would lose all!!!
Big fight my foot…Maidana is a good fighter, but beating a flake like Broner does not elevate him any more. Besides, either FMJ or Pacman would both eat him alive.

maidana vs. pacquiao. is that a step down? oscar and bob can co-promote and quit sandbagging the fight fans who line their pockets.

Maidana should fight Thurman next!!!

Posted December 24, 2013 3:38 pm

Tomato Can Stan

Nobody is going to want to step in the ring with this animal Maidana. He is one of the most dangerous, toughest and hard-hitting fighters ever to step into the squared circle. Maidana’s career may suffer because of this. Mayweather won’t take a risk like this. Merry Christmas everyone.

Posted December 24, 2013 3:28 pm

In what way is it a step down?

Posted December 24, 2013 2:49 pm

Bertie Bassett

Provodnikov a huge step down? Really?

In terms of fan interest. Much more fan interest in a Broner vs. Maidana rematch than a Maidana vs. Provodnokiv fight. Provodnikov is not even close to being as popular as Broner.

Posted December 24, 2013 2:43 pm

Provodnikov is bad for everybody, good fight for floyd, id like to see maidana hold on to the belts then get the big fights
