You’re an idiot with gloves between his ears…

the golden era of heavyweight boxing has long gone. today”s lot are just wrestlers with gloves on.

Also they have science…. The science of Boxing has advanced over the last 25 years — just like every generation before that.

the only thing today”s hw have over old school hw its very simple its called WEIGHT.

Seamus O’Hooligan

Gene Tunney was a smart fighter, smart enough to watch the ref count to 9 before getting up against Dempsey…. as for him not being a puncher he ko’d 48 men out of 65 wins, Louis ko’d 52 out of 66…. i think Tunney beats Louis on points over 15 rounds

Posted December 27, 2013 6:55 am

the hw circus will be back next year, sorry for the bad news.

Posted December 26, 2013 4:39 pm

john great post glad someone has a sense of humour.

Posted December 26, 2013 4:14 pm

Joe Louis was a formidable puncher, but quite slow on his feet. Gene Tunney wasn’t. Joe could ko him obviously, so take your pick. One big difference between Gene Tunney and Billy Conn though was that Gene fought smarter. Dempsey could knock down Joe if Max Schmeling did. Would Dempsey keep him down? Maybe, maybe not. The thing is, the likes of Dempsey and Tunney at their best would have had a good chance of beating Louis, who was a very fine champion but certainly NOT the greatest ever heavyweight.

Posted December 26, 2013 3:57 pm

Nameless, I presume you mean Corrie Sanders. You have your ‘facts’ wrong. Sanders didnot deck’ Vitali. No one knocked down Vitali as a pro boxer as far as I know, though Corrie came as close as anyone. Lennox Lewis certainly never came close to knocking down Vitali. VK kept his feet and proceeded to win in 8 rounds against Corrie Sanders, who was a very hard puncher. R.I.P. Corrie, good fighter.

Whats in the mind certainly does not make it right….such as vitali being the best ever….faced two good fighters and a bunch of midgets – lost against the worst lennox and got decked by a fat 40″ year old golfer and retired by chisora and charr…he wanted to quit vs chisora and got slapped in the face then he thumb jobbed charr. Woefully short of the best ever

Anonymous ; if your only criteria for boxing knowledge is age , then I am really disappointed ! I would expect this from ; a Nameless/Brainless , or a
Sredmond , a Peej , a doc , etc,. I DO think that the Klitchkos are
GREAT and Vitaly the BEST ever ! I was a juvenile when I saw ; Archie Moore , about 11 years old when I saw Marciano , and a teenager when I first saw Ali , Frazier , Liston etc., so you can see that you are wrong about my age as well . However , unlike you and some of your soul mates , I have managed to keep up with progress and not remain trapped in a time warp . A legend in one’s own mind , can be very powerful , but it certainly DOESN’T make it right ! I am not as skillful as Tark , in assessing the TRUE value of previous
fighters , or comparing them to today’s , so I suggest you pay extra attention
to his posts , so that you might learn something , and not embarass yourself in the future !

does chisora make the top ten lol.

been champ for about 7 years now impossible to beat

Posted December 26, 2013 8:59 am

old school hw could fight 15 plus rounds non stop. today”s modern hw are fuc#ed after six or severn.

Tark…. bore off

Posted December 26, 2013 5:02 am

…. “As for Tunney, he had the tools to outbox Louis, but Louis had the tools to ko Tunney..”

Louis was a great fighter… Tunney had a better and slicker jab and a better defense… He had a quick right counter for a predictable jab.. He didn’t run out of gas — which Conn did on several times…

Conn was gone after the war—when he rematched Louis… He didn’t have the same speed, sharpness, or conditioning… He was 20% of the boxer who fought the first fight, and Louis was 60% of his former self… Louis still had enough to KO Walcott … but he was running down hill in a hurry.

Posted December 26, 2013 1:04 am

Got to disagree, Conn fought a great fight, undoubtedly his greatest performance, untill he started to gas out, and Joe Louis caught up with him.

The rematch settled it for the undecided minority.

As for Tunney, he had the tools to outbox Louis, but Louis had the tools to ko Tunney. The closest we’ll ever be able to compare too, is the Conn fights, so my money would be on Louis.
As for Dempsey, in a toe to toe fight, I’m sure Louis gets dropped but wins by ko.

At the time, people had seen the likes of Tunney and Dempsey but still knew they were seeing someone very special in Louis.

modern boxing today is like modern music. celebrity hype and prima donnas.

Posted December 25, 2013 5:22 pm

Look at all the great fighters Holyfield fought. Moorer, Bowe, Ruiz, Ibragimov, Donald. Ev lost to all of them. They weren’t so great either.

Look at all the great fighters Tyson fought. Douglas, Evander, Lewis, Williams, McBride. Mike lost to all of them. Lewis was a great one, and older than Mike at 36 to 35, but Mike couldn’t win a round.

Posted December 25, 2013 5:16 pm

klit bros top thirty at best.

Posted December 25, 2013 5:14 pm

You’re right, TARK.

Posted December 25, 2013 5:13 pm

Gene Tunney would have boxed Joe Louis’s ears off…

Conn was a good boxer, but he started boxing pro as a lightweight and didn’t have the punching power to try to stop a much bigger guy… Conn fought a stupid fight.

Tunney was much bigger, stronger, tougher, and smarter, and had 3 times the skill. He wouldn’t have gone for the KO — just the win.

Posted December 25, 2013 5:06 pm

look at the great fighters vitali klit has fought. i said look.look.

Posted December 25, 2013 4:21 pm

Vitali was the one getting weaker and was getting knocked out if the fight went on

Posted December 25, 2013 12:53 pm

Lennox was retired by his mom! She didn’t want him taking more punishment from that big Ukrainian.

Posted December 25, 2013 9:28 am

Joe Louis, best ever? Nah. A slow-footed fighter who got knocked down multiple times and spanked by Max Schmeling, had to go 15 to beat Tommy Farr, was being outboxed by Billy Conn and was ko’d by Rocky Marciano? Not likely. Dempsey and Tunney might well have been too much for Joe, never mind a Klitschko!

Posted December 25, 2013 9:26 am

JOE LOUIS. the greatest of all time period.

Lewis was out of shape, getting beaten and i dont think he would have made it through the next round,he was lucky but the ref and doctor made the right decision in stopping, fairest outcome would have been a rematch.. but Lewis retired, saying that he didnt need to fight him again…i think that put a dent in the Lewis legacy… if anything he should have retired straight after the fight instead of talking bollocks

Yes , Anonimous , Vitaly WILL be missed ( I assume you are reffering to him ,
with your ” witty ” comment ) , by millions ! As th greatest heavyweight in history , he will be missed by the people who were fortunate to see him live , or on the screen , or even reading about him ! He will even be missed by
microbes like you ; insignificant , unknown and ANONIMOUS !

Posted December 24, 2013 6:49 pm

herman will be missed just like david toe haye. LOL.

Posted December 24, 2013 6:32 pm

The leg injuries suffered in his kickboxing career threatened to end Vitali’s boxing career on a number of occasions. He took 4 years off from age 33 to 37 to rehab his legs at one point. He said he never felt better than in the Peter fight, but his legs have caused him problems since. When he slipped and fell in the Adamek fight he didn’t exactly spring to his feet. A knee was causing problems.

Posted December 24, 2013 5:22 pm

It was only a KO in terms of the rules for that particular kick boxing event… The rules for that fight were “light contact” rules… A knockdown ended the fight… Vitali fought in only 2 of those kind of contests but he went down from a head kick that didn’t hurt him … The fight was declared over, much to the feigned amusement of Vitali.

Pele Reid became a professional boxer but never achieved contender status. Vitali was the most successful kickboxer of his era.

Posted December 24, 2013 5:14 pm

6 time kickboxing champ who got ko,d by pele reid !!!

Posted December 24, 2013 3:58 pm

Anonymous, you are a bit cynical. Wilder, fury, and Chisora are quite entertaining. Wilder has KOd everyone within 16 minutes. Fury always gives a rock and sockem fight and so does Chisora.

Posted December 24, 2013 2:06 pm

vitali & wladimir will be remenbered as the most boring fighters of all time , the heavyweights match ups died down since the two brothers took over

Posted December 24, 2013 11:39 am

Lewis won due to CLEAN punches to the face, Klitschko fans are EASILY some of the sorest losers that I have EVER encountered, they have a longwinded rationale or conspiracy theory for EVERY loss their guys have booked… 5 losses and a bogus reason for each one, gassing, refs, trainers, poison, fouls LMAO… Lennox put Klits in his place and rode off into the Sunset, the fact that Vitali could not dig up an important victory to compensate or dispel any questions about his worth historically is NOT Lewis fault…

Posted December 24, 2013 10:46 am

dont worry plastic hw fans, you”ve still got lots of other big bums to look for next year, wilder fury and chisora keep the hw circus rolling.

Posted December 24, 2013 9:52 am

Hang ’em up, Vitali! It’s time to call it a career. Ukraine needs you more, and it’s the toughest fight that you will ever take. You’re an ATG already, don’t overstay your time in the ring, man.

Posted December 24, 2013 6:30 am

That fight between him and timo was awesome as was the lewis and sanders fights. The timo fight is on youtube. Merrry christmas :)

Posted December 24, 2013 5:41 am

is that the guy who lost to lewis?

Posted December 24, 2013 5:40 am

I saw the name of the author, I expected a Russian “accent” and – /And exactly this happened/.

Posted December 24, 2013 4:17 am

In other words. vitali has seen that everyone was happy that he retired and has now realised he has no legacy and Tko6 was as good as it got.

Posted December 24, 2013 2:37 am

I hope Vitali comes back and fights again. Notice that so many hate he and his brother Vlad because they have been beating up all their heroes.

Timo Hoffman was 6 feet 8 inches tall, was the first fight Vitali had after his 2.5 hours of shoulder surgery, and Vitali beat the living Hell out of Hoffman, it was totally one-sided. Yet, there is a comment that Hoffman almost beat Vitali?! LOL! That is a damned lie………….I have seen all of Vitali and Vlad’s fights, even Vlad winning the gold medal. Although Vlad won the gold medal, the haters claim that he is the worse heavyweight ever, and that Vitali could not fight at all. Vitali tried to get Valouev to fight him, but Valouev knew better. Vitali was also a six time kickboxing champion, both pro and amateur. Vitali also beat the crap out of Lewis, put, Lewis into retirement. Lewis would have been knocked out in the very next round if Lewis’ promoter had not signaled Lewis’ doctor to signal Lewis’ referee to stop the fight on a cut. Vitali staggered Lewis, Lewis could not stagger Vitali. Lewis’ punches did not bother Vitali at all, if not for the cut Vitali would have knocked Lewis out. Vitali has never run out of gas, but Lewis has. Lewis was done for, so they had to save him, notice that the haters never mention Lewis’ badly broken nose. Lewis refused to fight Vitali, refused the biggest payday of his entire career. Lewis knows the truth and the truth will always haunt him. Notice how jealous Lewis was of Vitali when he was on EPIX TV? Lewis claimed that Vitali never hit Solis, but the video proved Lewis a liar, as it was a right hook to the temple that put Solis down, Solis busted his knee after he went down. Notice all the lies about Vitali? Now the haters believe that Wilder is the greatest heavyweight of all time, well, put him into a ring with Vitali and you will see Wilder out cold. Vitali would beat the living crap out of Wilder, no contest. ANGELO DUNDEE SAID THAT VITALI WAS CHEATED OUT OF THE WBC TITLE THAT NIGHT HE FOUGHT LEWIS. ANGELO DUNDEE WAS ALI’S TRAINER AND ONE OF THE BEST CUT MEN IN BOXING HISTORY.

Posted December 24, 2013 2:04 am

Wlad Fan (The haters are in KLIT Denial!)

Vitali: You’ve had a great run…time to hang em’ up and let Wladimir unify the belts. At this moment, Ukraine needs you more than boxing. Merry Christmas, everybody!

Posted December 24, 2013 2:02 am

Never got to see vitali with a 6’6 plus big puncher after the lewis fight. Styles make fights, I think vitali would not be as dominant when facing a good tall man. Timo was not boxing master but gave him a competitive fight for 12 rounds, the only man vitali’s size. Short fat guys and blown up cruisers where never going to touch him. He was a very good boxer, so close to being the best. Just had a weak resume which sadly will hurt his legacy. I will always rate wlad even with his 3 losses high than vitali, he has faced better opponents.

Posted December 24, 2013 12:53 am

Goosey what the fu..k does color have to do with the heavy weight champion. Damn you Europeans are the most racist bastards on the planet and the stupidest with your lack of genetic understanding you bastards are all a bunch of f…kin Hitlers.

What does this article, entitled “Vitali Klitschko Explores The Possibility Of Boxing Again” have to do with the Lewis fight????

Posted December 23, 2013 6:17 pm

hey stan call Bruce at Gleason’s and get knocked out for Xmas you clown

Posted December 23, 2013 5:47 pm

Lewis won by a foul. He should have been disqualified. It is clear as day on video. Why do you deceive yourself and claim it as a legitimate victory? Only a corrupt referee could have allowed this to go unnoticed.

Posted December 23, 2013 5:43 pm

No luck about it. Vitali had been training for Lewis for years. Lewis took on Vitali on 2 weeks notice and still got the stoppage win. Was coming on the last 3 rounds. I thought it was even but the fight got stopped. Lewis won plain and simple.

Posted December 23, 2013 5:37 pm

Well if Lewis was out of shape then he must be pretty stupid seeing how he should have trained well for his original opponent Kirk Johnson. If Kirk Johnson didn’t seem like much of a threat it still makes Lewis an idiot. He’s lucky that he got his cut stoppage win, and retired to his mota patch.

Posted December 23, 2013 5:28 pm

got beat by an out of shape lewis, end of.

Posted December 23, 2013 4:58 pm

Posted December 23, 2013 4:35 pm

Swedish boxing fan- Vitali will always be considered a better champion that his little brother. Your going on title defenses? Please. Vitali has never even been knocked down much less out in all of his fights. His KO ratio is the best. He has never been behind on the scorecards in any of his fights. Even the 2 he lost by his injured shoulder and the one stopped from cuts in the Lennox fight. Wladimir has been stopped 3 times! And Vitali came in and beat up 2 of those 3 fighters after they beat Wladimir. And Wladimir never faced Lennox. Your delusional if you think Wlad will go down as a better fighter than Vit.

Posted December 23, 2013 4:32 pm

Swedish Boxing Pretty good post I agree and think both Klits 20 – 25 with Vitali in top 20. I do wish they had fought in a better era and had taken a few tougher fights but it is a business and you have to make as much cash as you can before you get to old to fight.

Posted December 23, 2013 4:09 pm

Swedish Boxing Fan

Vitali Klitschko will go doen as one of the top 20-25 best heavyweights of all times and that is great BUT he have not made it to top 10 greatest of all times and is to far away from that list.

Vitali Klitschko have not to many fights in his career to be rememberd for and that is not necesary his fault BUT it will remain a question for many people to deal with. Only the Lennox Lewis fight from back in 2003 and that fight says it all, NOT many to discuss.

Wladimir Klitschko, the 1996 Olympic Gold medalist in super heavyweight and 2-time heavyweight champion of the world with so far 16 world title defences of his crown is the 3rd best ever in heavyweight history, only after the great Larry Holmes, 20 defences and the greatest Joe Louis 25 defences and Wladimir Klitschko have always been the most seen fighter between the two brothers and Wladimir will likley one day land in top 10 greatest list for all his achivments.

If Vitali Klitschko’s fans only can talk abaut Vitali’s failed fight over Lennox Lewis, that says it all.

It is not my place to tell Vitali what to do in life, but for him to return to boxing at this point is not what I’d want him to do. He’s accomplished enough as a boxer, and he owes nothing more to anybody.
