Big joe turner

Then he should move up to 160. Damn phone!

Big joe turner

Great comment. For everyone saying Martinez should move up and fight someone his own size, get a grip. Pavlik, Williams, margarito and now Chavez jr are all way bigger than him. Sergios a natural 154 pounder and has said in the past he could boil down to 150 for a fight. If mayweathers as great as he says he is Lethe should young up to 160 and challenging he best. Duran started at 135 and moved all the way up to 168. Leonard went through the weights too. If not serg is willing to come down and fight May at a weighted already won titles in. Didn’t mayweather brag about the fact that he was fighting cotto at his natural weight without this catchweight t? Don’t be a hypocrite money.

Banunez says Chavez over Martinez.

Floyd will never fight Martinez..too big, too strong, too powerful, athletic with good skill..when was the last time Mayweather fought someone like that,,never..!

Posted August 29, 2012 11:42 pm

Martinez doesn’t get by on his chin, and toughness, he gets by on his mobility and skill. It doesn’t take an iron chin to be champ, you just have to avoid getting hit. PW was NOT a PUNCHER at middleweight. As a matter of fact I wasn’t impressed with his act at middle weight. Just look at what Lara did to him. Martinez landed the punch of a lifetime on PW is all (see Hasim Rahman). Martinez claims no one wanted to fight him…expect for Pirrog. Martinez ducked that boy plain and simple.

The Prince

I wouldn’t be surprised if Floyd chooses to fight Martinez, if Pacquio chooses to fight Marquez and wins decisively. If Floyd does fight Martinez and wins, their would be nothing haters can say after that.

“maravilla” can forget about floyd mayweather he will never get past chavez jr

Posted August 29, 2012 5:35 pm

I agree. This fight could easily resemble Martinez vs Pavlik

Posted August 29, 2012 4:48 pm

“he’s no longer hard to hit like he used.” First of all terrible English, as you left off “to be.” Secondly, who says he’s not hard to hit anymore??? Ortiz couldn’t connect with anything other than headbutts, hugs and a kiss on the cheek. P4P great Marquez had a lot of trouble. Even Cotto (who did better than just about anyone Mayweather has faced) would probably not agree with that statement. So what if Mosley hurt him, every boxer can be hurt in the ring and that was the only positive moment of the fight for Mosley who lost every other round because he couldn’t hit Floyd.

Jr. has already moved up from 140lbs. i suspect that some want Chavez Jr. to continue moving up until he’s finally facing much bigger guys who will give him a beating in a win or loss. the resentment of Jr. is simply irrational. he’s done nothing wrong and has done everything right in his last three fights, inCLUDing improving his boxing skills and refining an already potent body-attack. the closer we get to September 15 the more i like Jr’s. chances for the upset.

24/7?? I thought that debuts this Saturday (the 1st)??

Posted August 29, 2012 3:49 pm

Titopa

NO WAY Sturm takes that fight…even if they fought in his backyard. Plus, I’d pick Martinez to outclass that dude.

Posted August 29, 2012 3:48 pm

Tecateisboxing

The 24/7 was good, probably one of the best yet. (Besides the language barrier) I hope this is a good fight. I’m looking forward to this one. I think this one is going to the cards. Chavez jr is going to come in as a light heavyweight I just hope Sergio doesn’t get robbed, it’s quite possible.

There are plenty of great middleweight fights out there for Martinez but none are really big names as he too like Mayweather is looking fior the big Money Fights. Hassan Ndam Njikam, Gennady Golovkin, Dmitry Pirog, Peter Quillin, Martin Murray, Demetrius Andrade are all worthy unbeaten opponents, and Felix Sturm, Daniel Geale, Anthony Mundine, Jermain Taylor would be decent fight that could make him a bit of cash if staged in the right place.
I also think a move up to take on Arthur Abraham in Germany would provide a very decent payday i’m sure and a Super-middleweight Belt.

So there are alot of other options instead of chasing Mayweather, although at 37 i’m not sure how much more time at the top he has ?

The Mad Scientist

Chavez has improved but he still a work in process who hasn’t reached his fool potential yet..Junior has size, youth, toughness, seems determine and he goes to the body like no other in the sport today..is that enough to win against Martinez remains to be seen..

Posted August 29, 2012 12:49 pm

Mark

Chavez does not hit hard. Luciano Cuello ran him right down to the wire in their fight and Chavez could not put him away, Saul Alvarez gave him a one-sided beatdown. Kelly Pavlik stopped a better version of Marco Antonio Rubio in 9 rds Chavez Jr had to go the full distance. Please do not build up Chavez Jr !

The Kingslayer

Ego has nothing to do with it Martinez is a Middlweight who could fight at SMW if he wanted to, Floyd is a Welterweight.

Posted August 29, 2012 11:41 am

Blaze

I agree except for one thing. Chavez jr can take a shot better than any of those guys you named and hits harder. But, skillwise I don’t see a difference, Chavez is just bigger and stronger though that may make the difference.

Posted August 29, 2012 11:03 am

The Mad Scientist

I don’t think Floyd Mayweather would ever fight Sergio Martinez..atleast the excuse about Sergio not being a household name will go out the window for Floyd now that Maravilla is in a big fight against Chavez Jr…let’s face it, all the money in the world wouldn’t comfort Floyd’s ego in the event of losing his precious “0” or a serious ass beating..

Posted August 29, 2012 10:54 am

The Kingslayer

I like Martinez but he’s really starting to annoy me with his quest to fight Mayweather, it’s not going to happen you’re too big for Floyd and Pacquaio for that matter. Martinez would be better off looking to fight Andre Ward at a catchweight.

Posted August 29, 2012 10:44 am

varnish

Mayweather / Martinez would be a dream fight, but it seems Maywaether would take Pac instead because it is less risky and more lucrative. I can’t see anything that Chavez does better than Pavlik, Williams, and Dzinzurik, all of whom Sergio beat. I will be very surprised if Chavez can beat (or even be competitive with) Martinez.

Posted August 29, 2012 10:33 am

REM

Size isnt the problem in a fight between Floyd and Sergio the problem is Sergios an A level southpaw. Floyd beat Oscar at 154 and will most likely beat all the orthodox boxers at 154. I dont count Cotto because hes not a true jmw.
Like ive said before Floyds claims of greatness make it almost mandatory that he fight Sergio or he loses points because he sells himself so high. And for the record Sergio is a true jmw who fights at mw because no one will fight him at jmw.

Martinez vs Sturm at 160 for the title.

Posted August 29, 2012 9:53 am

Murdoc

He better head north to 68 and start cleaning those guys out
Floyd is not gonna fight Martinez, he understands business and he balances his risk/reward ratio such as
other promoters do!!!

Posted August 29, 2012 9:38 am

I think Joe means that Sergio needs to stop calling out Pac and FLoyd and start calling out guys his own size or bigger. I have to agree.

Posted August 29, 2012 9:35 am

Josh

Who has he fought that was smaller than him  ?

I think you got it backwards Chavez needs to move up and fight someone his own size.

Posted August 29, 2012 8:07 am

Blaze

typo……might entice FLoyd…

Posted August 29, 2012 7:59 am

Blaze

Martinez must not be too smart. Does he really thing beating a man who steps into the ring at 180lbs will score him a fight with Floyd who has only fought at 154lbs twice? LMOA! If he were smart he would have called out Cotto after the Floyd fight which he really should have done before Cotto fought Floyd. Being the jrMW champ might intice Floyd, but beating a guy as big as Chavez jr will just push that fight further away.

Posted August 29, 2012 7:58 am

Joe

Martinez really grinds my f***ing gears. Why doesnt he move UP and fight someone bigger than him? In any case I think JCC Jr will ice his ass when they fight

Adrian.. Mayweather’s No. 1 fan I see?? :) haha

I always said if Martinez fights mayweather it would be a great fight.. Even better than manny vs Floyd. But Floyd will get koed in this fight if it ever happen!!!!!

Posted August 29, 2012 6:44 am

Mix

Martinez vs Ward/Dawson @ 168lb would be interesting & worth a lot of $’s. In an ideal World though the winner of Martinez/Chavez JR would fight Sturm or Geale in an undisputed unification.

Floyd will humiliate Martinez?lol i needed a good laugh.flomos are drinking too much koolaid.Sure Floyd is more skilled than Sergio that doesn’t make him the better fighter & guaranteed a win how stupid.Pac isn’t unbeatable neither is Floyd, both fan bases very ignorant & delusional.Floyd leaves his little jaw vs Sergio & he’ll get Paul Williams lol no joke though.

Posted August 29, 2012 5:10 am

Adrian

Oooo Martinez please don’t mention mayweather because you are too dangerous for him and his fans will go nuts and start calling you names and jump on Internet sites and try to convince everyone how mayweather will beat you and there is no need for him to fight you ….

Martinez , you need to drop and fight cotto first at 154 and ko his ass than stay right there and see if mayweather dares and offer you a fight!

Posted August 29, 2012 4:22 am

Adrian

Let us see than… Or should we just assume mayweather is better than Martinez and there is no need for them to fight and let’s see another Ortiz instead? Give me a break please!

Posted August 29, 2012 4:16 am

Adrian

Why not mayweather??? And why Abraham when there won’t be any money?
Let me ask you this , why mayweather fought Marquez and not lets say margarito or wiliams?

Posted August 29, 2012 4:14 am

Adrian

Well if they fight at 154 pound what is wrong there ???
Actualy is an advantage for mayweather because Sergio has to drop and he could feel week … In any case if they fight at 154 it would be awsome to see and I don’t know why are so worried about them fighting?? Are you worried your hero mayweather might lose?

Martinez has a good counter he turning into a better boxer, but Chavez doesn’t back down and counters right back,it’s something Martinez doest like, anybody that tough will give him problems margarito was one, so I say this is going to be a punch feast with Chavez doing heavy counter damages, eather chavez ko Martinez or lose by a decision, don’t think martinez see chavez putting the pressure on all night.

Posted August 29, 2012 1:14 am

Floyd has too much SKILL and Boxing IQ for Martinez. Martinez would even lose to Ward.

Maravilla is going to expose the “new” Chavez and his padded record!

Posted August 29, 2012 12:14 am

carrie watkins

Martinez will knock out chavez. Chavez has only fought a couple good fighters and very few had any punching power everybody will see chavez chin isent that good

Posted August 29, 2012 12:10 am

Lman

Given that Chavez will be the size of a light heavyweight by fight time cant see why Martinez cant call out some of the super middles, pretty sure he can outbox Abraham…Then he can call out Floyd without sounding like a hipocrite…

Posted August 28, 2012 11:49 pm

Ben

He couldnt stop Rubio, Zbik and a bunch of fighters far worse than Martinez. You guys are nuts hes gonna knock out Martinez. Martinez will dance around all night, nail Chavez over and over and win a UD.

Exiled Yank

FM and MP are WWs!!! Why should either guy have to move to 160 to prove themselves? I think they’ve done plenty… except fight each other.

Posted August 28, 2012 11:07 pm

Winetaster

I have criticized Chavez in the past, but the guy has turned out to be a boxer’s worse nightmare….someone that is rough, tough, very unpolished, and keeps coming. I don’t know how a kid that grew up in a upper middleclass family turned out to be a mug in the ring. There is no reason he should win but I’ve said that for almost all his fights. Martinez is good but I’m not convinced he is the next SRL. I like him but I think he is as overrated as Chavez is underrated. And if Martinez should win and I hope he will, his next opponents should be those 160 and up and not 154 and below. A great boxer should be moving up and not moving down. Same can be said for Chad Dawson but that’s another for another blog.

I see martinez rotate switches into 135 year old man in rounds 12.

At this point Martinez is the better fighter than Mayweather, Paquia, Chavez jr. Martinez should be ranked P4P #1

Martinez will never make it to Mayweather or Pacquiao, because he won’t get past Chavez jr. Chavez will stop Martinez before the 11rd.
