I thought Garcia’s closing SKILLS were GREAT. He closed Salido out on the scorecards QUICK and forced him to have to go for the knockout. Salido should have been extra careful because anything that stopped the bout other than a legal knockout would result in a LOSS. He hadnt even WON a round yet.

Yep. TC is correct. the unconventional if not illegal source of the punch that caused Garcia’s broken nose resulted in a perfectly respectable stoppage. less than ideal considering Salido’s notoriety for late-rounds surges but Mikey’s dominance (if not closing skills) up to that point provided the perfect opportunity to call what was already a lopsided contest in favor of Garcia. Mikey may proceed with his professional integrity intact.

Peej, just as there are different severity of cuts, there are differrent severity of broken noses. Mikey’s nose was smashed and twisted. Besides that, it was Robert who pushed for the stoppage–not Mikey. Robert kept yelling “accidental headbutt, accidental headbutt, accidental headbutt!” Meanwhile, for 8 rounds Mikey had smeared Salido. Period. Four more rounds wouldn’t have saved Salido–they would have insured a Garcia TKO over him.

Garcia FAR from pulled a Vic Ortiz, Ortiz has QUIT on more than one occasion and his injury was the result of a CLEAN punch from Lopez, whereas Salido who was down about as much as you could be after 8 rounds broke the kids nose with his head….Whether it was deemed an intentional or unintentional foul there was NO case that Garcia was looking for the exit, he had Salido down 4 times and had barely broke a sweat…He is guilty of letting an OLD, HARD veteran fighter stay in the ring too long, he should have taken him out EARLY when he had him hurt.

The Mad Scientist

I refuse to belive Garcia took the easy way out..with the performance he put on last night I’ll be giving him the benefit of the doubt..yeah, Mickey is definitely one to look for heading into the future, the kid got some boxing skills.

I don’t see why Garcia is getting all this hate?! Serious young man fought a every dirty fighter beat him down was winning why not pull out!

Salidos always been a dirty fighter.. and he looked like an amateur last night..

Tomato Can

Salido fought a trash fight, he did the only thing he could do, land a head shot to break Garcia‚Äôs nose, clean. Good stoppage, if it had been a punch, Slalido would have won, if the fight was stopped, but it was a fight changing head butt, end of story. Why let your fighter risk further injury, when the original injury was illegal? If the fight was close, he would have had to continue, but it wasn’t close at all, Garcia had a laughable 10 point advantage in the 8th round. Not that Garcia is a perfect at this stage, but he out performed Gamboa and Lopez, not too shabby.

Mikey Garcia pull a Victor Ortiz last night ,,sure he was winning but Salido hung on there ,,and was getting to Mikey in the last two rounds and Roberto Garcia knew this , so Mickey and Roberto agree he couldn”t continue ,,Mickey was starting to get tire and was starting to get hit ,,so he quit …

Garcia did display some skills as he was in total control but to me he looked like he may have been getting a little winded. Now I don’t thin it was an intentional butt, stuff like that happens in boxing. But I do have to say I did lose a little respect for Garcia by calling it quits in there after that. Broken noses are apart of boxing and you fight through them. I’m not say Garcia wasn’t on his way to a victory but he looked like he was getting tired and then took the easy way out after that butt. I still like him but a little respect is gone

Brilliant performance by young Mikey Garcia! I knew he was good with lots of potential, but I thought that he was lacking something previously. Last night he found whatever it was that I thought he lacked! Now that he’s showed how good he can be when things are going his way, we can only wonder how good he can swim in deep water. What would he have done if his nose was broken by a punch, instead of a head-butt? Would he have quit, or turned up the heat in order to end it sooner? I’m sure we will soon find out.

Duran’s the man

Intentional headbutt by an old monkey willing to use illegal tactics when out of his class. What a display of skills by Garcia.
