Canelos ankle’s hurt because he put on so much weight.. LOL looked like a pudgy Shrek plodding around the ring after Lara.

Posted July 23, 2014 12:13 pm

Canelo actually didn’t do that much chasing…

At least not effective chasing… Lara stayed in front of Canelo at times — for as long as a minute at a time — just to prove Canelo couldn’t land effective shots on him when he was standing stock still. Canelo did land a ton of low punches on those occasions that the referee ignored … but nothing effective.

But Lara preferred moving and popping the slowpoke. You want to show your boxing skills … It’s a boxing match, not a hugging session in a phone booth.

Coward of the county

There’s a saying in boxing.. Protect yourself at all times. Now Camelo and handlers are taking that advice by matching Camelo with a safe bet- protecting camelo. It makes sense, I too would do the same if I just lost to Lara.

Posted July 22, 2014 2:45 am

Wow, Canelo looks really F’d up in that Photo and after watching the Replay of the fight I can see why so many are outraged Canelo got the win.. especially that 117 – 111 from the Mexican Judge..

Posted July 21, 2014 12:25 pm

Perfect way to display your combinations, fight Margarito or Clottey. Manny knows all about that.

LOL Clottey better not be Canelo’s next opponent. It would be a huge step down.

Canelo comes from South America??? Who can be that ignorant???

Don’t like this fight but it coud be worse.

I think Cotto beats Canelo but I think it would be a decent, entertaining fight. GBP will probably not go the Cotto route.

Nobody is asking for a rematch because nobody wants to see a marathon again.

Posted July 20, 2014 1:40 pm

Canelo won, but he also won the pizza face award. His face was beat up. Lara might need some Namman Muay, but Canelo could not hide his beaten face behind his shades.

Posted July 20, 2014 11:37 am

Clottey could possibly win this one if Canelo isn’t on his game. His skills are very sharp.

Posted July 20, 2014 9:36 am

Clottey a no win situation 4 Alvarez…Cotto or a rematch with Lara. Icant believe more people arent asking 4 a rematch?

The worst fight was Pacquiao-Clottey…

About 60,000 fans in Cowboy Stadium — and Clottey does his impression of a human punching bag.

Posted July 19, 2014 4:53 am

I think Cotto is the fight, not Clottey, but Cotto. Anc Canelo KO’s Cotto after a slug fest we all want to see. Clottey zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz….Cotto Yes indeed Cotto Cotto Cotto!!

You drama queens from putochico must not have seen Lara’s huge gash eye. lara’s eye was all busted up and bleeding. Canelo only had a bruise under his eye. Nevermind Lara being knocked down…oops I mean “accidental fall”. That was impressive, right?!

That’s a good question. According to Te Tumbo, Lara hardly landed anything. So I guess it must have been the referee that mess him up.

7-5 Lara at best for Canelo ….

9-3 at worst …..

Alvarez is a stiff , a prime Fernando Vargas would have kicked his ass. Canelo has glacial footspeed , a very limited arsenal of combinations and a mediocre jab.

Posted July 18, 2014 8:36 pm

Tumbo gives De La Hoya’s stick n move style against Trinidad a pass yet calls Lara a “runner ” .

Lara landed a lot more head snapping shots vs Canelo than Oscar did against Trinidad.

TITOPA, the biggest flaw in your analysis is equating Lara’s blatant running to avoid a fight with effective footwork. it wasn’t. it was blatant and non-scoring running. he landed no more than seven meaningful punches (most jabs) the entire bout. Canelo landed twice as many and thudding body-punches along with a handful of headshots. 116-112 All Day Long, Seven Days of the Week.

All this noise about GGG. I agree he is a good boxer. I just don’t understand why fans want him to step down and fight people under sized and under his weight class, but demand fighters like PAC and Fliyd to fight people that out weigh them by 15-20 lbs and are 2-4 inches talker. The double standard is ridiculous. If you think GGG is great encourage him to fight Froch, Abraham, or Ward.

Posted July 18, 2014 7:33 pm

Titopa I agree with much of your comment. It’s too late for Lara to do any changes.

Posted July 18, 2014 6:51 pm

te tumbo what’s your problem, man? You aren’t much of a true fan. Are that much of a Canelo Alvarez fanatic? Chill out.

Posted July 18, 2014 6:40 pm

Seriously who in their right mind would pay for this garbage of a fight other then the Carnello groupies?

Posted July 18, 2014 5:58 pm

te tumbo – That’s like asking Canelo to bounce on his toes and throw combinations, that will NEVER happen, and why? Because that’s not his style and he’s not comfortable fighting that way. Period. Everyone has their style and that’s pretty much it, we all knew Canelo had to come forward and punch, which is what he did, but what he didn’t do was Land effectively throughout the bout, he didn’t cut off the ring either….Lara landed the cleaner shots, look at the compubox stats.

Posted July 18, 2014 5:57 pm

The Oracle of Delphi

Lara won, Canelo is overrated, Clottey does not deserve a title fight. Te tumbo, stop masturbting to Canelo’s pic…

Posted July 18, 2014 5:56 pm

te tumbo – Have you ever watched Lara? What did you expect? yeah of course I would’ve loved to see a lot more action, who wouldn’t, but that’s his style, always has been and probably always will be….he fights to HIS strengths, not his opponents.

Regardless, I scored it for Lara and I think a draw would’ve been much better. Canelo is super slow and can’t handle a guy with two good feet. Once again, as I said, Canelo’s showed that unless he has a stationary target in front of him, he’s NOT very good.

I’m new on this site but have commented a little on others. This is one of the better ones. A lot of know something fight freaks. I dunno but I find 116-112 is too wide although I won’t argue with the decision. I scored it a draw. Lara’s mistake was too much movement when he could’ve landed some pretty flush shots on the rushing Canelo a lot more and then backed off. The idea of bringing in Clottey sounds like a step backwards especially since Clottey’s whereabouts have been unknown for quite some time. I’d compare it to the Canelo v Alfonso Gomez fight, no mystery about the winner. It would have to be a Showtime free-be.

TITOPA, Lara’s total lack of fighting-spirit was an Utter DISGRACE to the sport of boxing. he literally refused to satisfy the minimal requirement of a title-fight, which is to engage your opponent in a contest of punching and boxing skills. Lara blatantly avoided such a contest and literally backpedaled for his professional life. 116-112 for Canelo All-Day-Long, Every Day of the week. Lara is back to undercard-status and will be lucky to be included in an HBO After Dark card. meanwhile, his scalp has been added to Canelo’s growing collection Name-victims. Canelo is the Man at 154lbs.

Posted July 18, 2014 4:36 pm

when you school an opponent you don’t outland him by just ten punches, and over 50 of them jabs….then he outlands you in power punches….you can’t win a championship that way, you have to bring it, keep your mouth shut and let your fighting do your talking……

Posted July 18, 2014 2:07 pm

If not Cotto I have no issue with Canelo facing Clottey in order to get in some work… Clottey is a lot like Lara in that he had some really serious tools but would often NOT step on the gas then rail against the judges… Always saying crap like “take my time” well you cannot do that as the LESS popular fighter you have to push the issue… He was giving Cotto hell and he had Margo beat till he broke his hands… Good work for Canelo, not someone he can take lightly unless Clottey has slipped…

Canelo I feel would whoop the trunks off GGG (IN A BOXING MANNER LOL)….ggg, according to his loving fanbase is khazikstans answer to the incredible hulk , concrete jaw, strong as an ox , and some fans claim hes got the best ring generalship since liberarchy lol . seriously though, I have not seen any ring generalship from ggg , ive seen him walking chumps down and them fleeing like their about to be up ended by a mugger , and thats it. Lucian Bute was the next best thing since sliced bread then carl froch came along , arthur abraham was a sliced breader and then andre dirrell came along. Ggg needs to lay off the chumps and fight the elite boys and beat them , then you can put the flags out!!!

What is up with this article? There are two mistakes in the first two paragraphs. A. Canelo is a junior middleweight, not a junior welterweight and B. Floyd Mayweather was Canelo’s “toughest opponent”, not Lara. Moreover, the title of the piece falsely suggests that Canelo is scheduled to fight Clottey next. Thumbs down.

Posted July 18, 2014 12:12 pm

Canelo is the real deal he has been facing the best he can and that has to be respected.. Between Trout, Lara and Mayweather he fought TOP boxers who only had ONE loss between them and Laras loss to Williams is one of the most hotly debated in recent memory along with Bradley getting a GIFT against Pacquiao… He lost to Mayweather and fought close with the other 2 guys ONLY Mayweather consistently makes World Class and other Champions look foolish… That said you gotta respect Sauls upside and desire to impress…

Canelo is far from a bum in fact hes a proven commodity now. We asked him to step up the level of comp and he did. The youngster outboxed Trout whos considered to be a high level technical boxer, held his own against Floyd doing alot better than most of Floyds other opponents and now fought the super talented Lara well. The fight was pretty much a draw. Has he seperated himself from the pack no but he’s clearly shown he deserves the attention he’s getting he’s truly amongst the elite in boxing.

Posted July 18, 2014 9:33 am

Who wrote this crap article. Clottey threw the Pacquiao fight when he could have easily put forth a stoppage effort. Then he goes into hiatus for years, now he gets talked up to fight Canelo. As I said, golden boy has been hanging out with Arum for too long. He’s starting to throw easy pitches at his cinnamon star. What amuses me, is that these Canelo followers can’t see through this bull%^*+.

Canelo as I said, after being exposed in three fights, will be coddled from here on out. GBP will feed him non-contenders to ensure that he doesn’t get upset like he did with Lara, Floyd and nearly by Trout. If this is the direction that the powers that be decide to take, I will never watch another Canelo fight. I’m becoming less of a fan with each of his fights anyway. He’s showing me nothing special.

I saw the fight and lara and canelo did not deserve a win, lara is the best boxer, but canelo has the bigger heart, not saying he won the fight, cause i think Oscar already had the judges paid off, lara had to beat the shtt out of canelo, if lara didn’t understand that then his trainer Randy shields sould have known that, maybe Oscar paid him off too, i know Oscar and GP is no better then Bob and TR, manny is Bob cash cow and canelo is Oscar cash cow, the only way you beat a cash cow is cash him out, like JMM did manny, lara would have had to be as dominant as floyd was and even as dominant as floyd was, he only got a MD, so lara you blew it and you need to check and see if Ronnie shields sold you out, if he didn’t, you sold yourself out. Big fight, big choke, blame yourself, and to all that said floyd was scared of lara and would never fight him and man up, well now you see the difference, it’s hard being floyds Mayweather and even harder trying to be like him

Posted July 18, 2014 6:31 am

Canelo is a wonderful prospect. He learns and adapts. I like his power and he can absorb hard shots. I just wish he was lighter on his feet and can get his shots off quicker without having to plant both his feet every time. A new trainer could do wonders for the young gun. Clotty will be dealt with quite easily though with his plodding style.

Lara outpunches Canelo all night. And what excuse do Canellies have? He ran!!?!?!?

Let me explain the difference. Running is something you do if you’re trying to catch a wide receiver before he gets to the end zone.

Footwork is something you do when you’re boxing the piss out of Canelo, and landing many more solid punches.

Posted July 18, 2014 12:16 am

Canelo Do not pull a “GGG” and fight this tomato can, you are better then that. You haven’t backed down from anybody and you need to fight GGG, Cotto or Quillan. Cement your legacy and make La Raza proud. Arriba Arriba

LARA like CLOTTEY promised alot and delivered very little. They have much in common. They missed out on the biggest opportunity of their life. Then they cry rematches. Clottey blocked all night. Lara ran all night. Same difference.

Cotto is nothing more than a name and a money fight for Canelo..Miguel stands to gain more (8 figure payday and the biggest win of his career) if he takes the fight but for some reason his fans don’t want it,, why are they so afraid of losing to a mexican..???????????

Posted July 17, 2014 11:20 pm

Posted July 17, 2014 11:12 pm

Damn! Where did they dig up Clottey from. Haven’t seen that cat since that beating he took in Dallas. I didn’t even know he was still fighting. That sounds about something Canelo’s peeps would do after ripping Lara off.

Posted July 17, 2014 10:29 pm

Pacquioa should look to fight at 154lbs. Didnt he already fight at that weight, so whats stopping him? Mayweather jumps between 147lbs and 154lbs without no problems. Im just saying, cause of lately Pacquioa has been fighting some really crappy fights at 147lbs. At 154 there are alot of big moneymaking fights he can get before he retires. Heck, might even help his legacy. Fighting the likes of Algieri who no one will remember isnt good for buisness…

Clotty is tailor made for Canelo.

1) Cotto
2) Andrade
3) Quillin
4) Charlo

OH yeah I forgot to mention Kirkland. Kirkland is being mentioned as a Canelo opponent TOO. Kirkland is allergic to running. He will stand and trade with Canelo SO that would be exciting to watch. Its not ELITE level Boxing though.

Clottey definitely does not deserve a shot. Sitting in a defensive posture all fight is boring. Clottey got less fans than Lara. And they talking bout taking the Mexican holidays back. Not with Clottey

A step backward…

Posted July 17, 2014 9:34 pm

Last time I check Cotto is a true 154lbs who just beat the king Maravilla and yet is avoiding Canelo. Kirkland ran out on Canelo with a “busted” shoulder. And you guys still hating on Canelo? Canelo is LOOKING to fight these guys unlike Lara who just wanted an easy paycheck. Lara avoiding contact in a contact sport…haha.

Posted July 17, 2014 9:33 pm

Boxing is a contact sport. What Lara was doing was avoiding contact. Moving and dancing will delivering minimum damage will get you no where. Canelo was never in trouble at any point and Lara NEVER pressed the fight. #2. Lara CHALLENGED Canelo. So the challenger should have been looking to fight. I’m I right? Instead Canelo had to do the chasing.

Against the last World Class Championship level opponent that he FACED. What would give you the indication that he would be a GOOD match for Canelo?? How long have you been watching Boxing??

Posted July 17, 2014 9:18 pm

BTW whoever wrote THIS story had better learn how to keep UP with Boxing. Canelo SAID that he doesn’t want ANYMORE tune UP bouts and that’s what Clottey IS. The opponents on his slate are GGG, Cotto, Quillin, Andrade, and Molina. Clottey is domestic level. Please don’t mention him vs. World Class Championship level opponents. He looked almost as bad as Roy DID vs. Calzaghe.

Lara is GOOD but he’s no Floyd Mayweather. SKILLS are GREAT but you also need EXTREME Confidence on TOP of your CAUTIOUSNESS. That’s the difference between Floyd and Lara. Floyd wants you to know who the BOSS is. Although he could RUN for a full 12 rounds he’s not going to let you chase him for 12 rounds because he is a Ring General. He is going to take over at some point and make YOU march to HIS tune. I think that’s why he SAID that he’s going to DO more physical training. He’s going to physically TAME Maidana and then SPANK him. It might turn into a late stoppage.

Here we go again, just what Canelo needs, another bum so his can look again. Since he failed to impress against Lara, feed him a guy that’s been away for over three years so Canelo cannot be embarrassed as he was against Floyd and Lara.

I’m sure that if a Clottey fight cannot be arranged, Oscar will bring up Angulo for a rematch. There’s no way Oscar will feed Canelo a boxer as he’s too slow to cope.

Tony – what level? Lara is/was just a belt holder IMO, who himself went life and death against b level fighters.

Yes, Clottey really deserves a shot because he fought so well against Pacquaio. If De La Hoya thinks that Alvarez is that good, then put him in with GGG or Chavez.

Viva MeJico or is it MeXico like my masters told me to write it?

Clottey??? hahahaha what a joke.

Posted July 17, 2014 8:43 pm

No Way.. How is this the so called top oposition Canelo was talking about facing..?

Posted July 17, 2014 8:43 pm

Iman Golovkin and Kovalev have never KO anyone the level of Lara.

Posted July 17, 2014 8:42 pm

And everyone hangs sh@t on guys like Kovalev and GGG for being more hype then substance, atleast they destroy the guys put in front of them.

Lara literally ran away from the big time and potential greatness, which is a sincere shame. he could’ve done a LOT better but the “whoosh” sound of Canelo’s missed punches obviously convinced him otherwise. i get it. he just got here and is desperately trying to preserve himself for additional paydays and living the “American Dream”. deciding to actually engage and fight v. Canelo would’ve resulted in a convincing loss and “damaged goods” status. however, literally running away from Canelo for 12 rounds may have preserved his health but Who The F’k would pay to watch Lara run for his professional life ever again?

clottey is a bum. lost to pac, cotto, cheato, everybody any good

Posted July 17, 2014 8:26 pm

Golden Girl promotion is trying to hard to make Canelo a star. Oscar should give Lara a rematch instead of having Canelo fight a guys who has only fought once in 3 plus years

Posted July 17, 2014 8:23 pm

first order of business is rematching the guy who boxed his face off: erislandy lara

bad fight

Posted July 17, 2014 8:02 pm

Canelo can fight anyone he wants to as long as it’s in Las Vegas and GBP/Oscar keep promoting him because he will never lose a fight with hand picked judges . Lara beat him easily 8 rounds to 4, but somehow one delirious judge (Levi) seemed to have his score card filled out a month. The sport is and always be corrupt.

FAKE HECDOG. Sounds like DaTruth Hurtzzz or Public Enemy posts.

I second that. No to Clottey

Anonymous … you are on to a good idea.

Algieri should fight Clottey.

That would actually be a good fight — particularly as an undercard fight to a major ppc.

Algieri vs. Pacquiao … Clottey v. Alvarez … these are not good fights and I would not pay for either fight.

Posted July 17, 2014 7:15 pm

Clottey has not fought anybody on the major stage since Miguel Cotto.

This is a stupid fight. We don’t need to see this fight to know what will happen.

Clottey will stand straight-up with hands high.

Alvarez will punch him and try to break through his guard.

12 rounds x 3 minutes = 36 minutes of this … Do we need to see 36 minutes of Alvarez punching a human punching bag?

Posted July 17, 2014 7:13 pm

Clottey, Algieri. boxing is a farce.

bouts v. Trout, Mayweather, Angulo, and Lara HAS solidified Canelo’s status as the top-dog at 154lbs. moreover, he’s intimidated the likes of Cotto and Kirkland out of contention. meanwhile, Lara’s complete lack of fighting-spirit in a PPV title-bout was a cringeworthy and utter disgrace. perhaps he should consider facing Mundine(?). Clottey may be too good for him.

if neither Cotto or Quillin accept Canelo’s challenges, then a stay-busy bout is advisable. or perhaps somebody will finally turn over the rock that Kirkland has been hiding under? meanwhile, Lara needs to rematch Molina or even Vanes. i doubt he’ll grow a pair big enough to face Molina again but Vanes is somebody that Lara can perhaps successfully run from.

Floyd beat Canelo’s butt in a jr. middleweight bout. OK, ES BOXING??!! :)

Posted July 17, 2014 6:56 pm

“solidifying himself as the best fighter at Jr. Welterweight.”

Well, this is wrong on two counts. First of all, the Canelo/Lara bout wasn’t even at jr. middleweight, it was a catchweight fight with no title on the line. Secondly, Alvarez never solidified himself as the best fighter at jr. welterweight, because Floyd beat his butt.

BTW ES Boxing, Canelo hasn’t fought as a jr. welterweight since he was like thirteen years old.

GGG vs Canelo
That’s the fight everyone wants to see!!

Posted July 17, 2014 6:33 pm

Get ready for a Unanimous Canelo led beating. UD is in the air, but Clottey will take it more professionally than Angulo, and will not have any offensive weapons at all.

The Mad Scientist

Canelo doesn’t need an opponent to make him look good..this kid has a loyal fanbase that believe in him and will support him no matter what..

You’re right BACON Pacquiao did the same thing!!!Brilliant Strategy

Posted July 17, 2014 6:22 pm

Clottey is the perfect opponent to make Canelo look good after a very unimpressive outing against Lara. Clottey is not a guy that moves at all and tends to cover up and block shots with no intention of countering. Just what Golden Boy needs!
