That was my impression KL.., It looked like Stiverne had a plan, and it was to hurt Arreola badly and end the fight early. He landed a real good shot in the 1st round … He didn’t want it going to the judges.

“Arreola was controlling most of the fight” – Kato3388

Well actually I think it was Stiverne “controlling” the fight rather than Arreola, Stiverne was the one that controlled the pace, and even though Arreola may have thought he was in control……he really wasn’t, Stiverne was the one with his finger on the button and he decided to press it in round 6.
The only time I felt Stiverne wasn’t in total control was round 2 when Arreola came on strong…….but Arreola was no way controlling the fight.

Yeah that wasn’t a classic heavyweight rumble. It was a good action fight but let’s not call any good heavweight fight a classic.

It was a good action fight but far from a heavyweight “classic.”

It was more a skilled heavyweight against a dough boy … or a marshmellow. The marshmellow happened to be a great absorber. Or at least he still was in their 1st fight. You can’t keep taking and taking … like for 20 years.

I was telling people watching the bout with us that Stiverne is setting up Cris for the counter from the opening round. As the rounds went on I had Cris winning rounds 2-5 but was telling them he’s getting clocked by a counter hook or right hand. 1 round later it’s Goodnight Irene. Good action fight.

Stiverne fought a good fight. Even though Arreola was controlling most of the fight, you could tell it was just a matter of time before Stiverne connected with something. The body shots he caught Arreola with made him backup, and made him think twice about coming in. Stiverne looked a little flustered but he kept calm and cool and took out his opponent when he had to. Props for Stiverne.

Props to ESPN as well for televising this fight. It was a much better fight than what I am used to seeing on Premium channels.

I thought it was an exciting fight. You watch heavyweights to see heavy punching and knockouts. This fight gave us plenty of heavy punching and a sudden knockout ending.
No, I don’t think Stiverne will beat Klitschko, but he is tough, willing and dangerous. I’d love to see him fight Wilder. I don’t know how that would end, but it would be a great fight.
How about the winner of Fury and Chisora? I like Stiverne’s chances in that one.

Alonzo, I don’t think that’s possible. Leapai landed all of 6 punches the entire fight. I understand you don’t think much of Stiverne or Arreola but Leapai is Awful. we’re talking about the same guy who was tko’d by feather fisted Kevin “safety Pin” johnson. Alex had no business getting a title shot. I’ve said from jump that fight was a waste of time. Just a sparring session for Wlad. Against stiverne / arreola wlad will be in a fight.

Posted May 12, 2014 10:50 am

Stiverne realistically never beat anyone to deserve a title shot, the division just has no deserving contenders. A shop worn Arreola is his best win to date, which really shows how much the prestige of the WBC title has diminished. His two fights prior to Arreola, he went life and death with Ray Austin and Willie Herring. So, either he improved drastically since then, or he just has Arreolas number and is good enough to beat Vitalis leftovers 5 years later. Stiverne is another flat footed heavyweight that can not deal with movement.

Posted May 12, 2014 9:31 am

Areola would get Stierme on the ropes flail away an stay in the pocket where Stiverne would wait for a good counterpunch. Stiverne is a count puncher in the mold of Archie Moore and James Toney. Areola played right into his game. Klitsko would flurry then pull away to escape the counter and slowly chop down Stiverne.

Eric–it’s rock, paper, scissors. Sure they’d destroy Leapia, but they’d also do far worse than he did against Klit.

Posted May 11, 2014 9:31 pm

Well trolled Anonymous, well trolled.

Posted May 11, 2014 8:53 pm

You are crazy alonzo. Arreola & Stiverne would DESTROY leapai. Nuff said.

Posted May 11, 2014 3:23 pm

Leapai had better head movement than both these guys together. Nuff said.

Arreola is a top ten fighter. Fact is Stiverne is just better. Same can be said for Tony Thompson. Good top 10 HW but not a champion. Each and every time a promoter tried to match thier “up & comer” with arreola, thinking he’s done & has been reduced to the level of “gatekeeper” Arreola has destroyed that individual (Molina,Mitchell,Walker,Witherspoon). So I still feel arreola is world class, unfortunately for him he’s in the wrong era. Much the same way David Tua was. Many similarities but stop with the disrespect and trying to diminish his accomplishment & skills now that he has lost to stiverne twice. Stiverne is just better. Likewise Tony Thompson is no bum, wlad is just better. point blank.

you are the biggest nerd on here anon ymous all you do is talk crap day in day out,are you jobless?and do you ever sleep?

Posted May 11, 2014 1:19 pm

Arreola product of soft fights, softer body and weak constitution. Taking a beating is nothing to be proud of and has nothing to do with your heritage. Just shows your lack of dedicatioin to the sport by not getting any better than you were in your very first fight. This is a 365 day job with no time of to get fat and lazy. Champions are made at 0330 road work, hours and hours of the gym and ring time, watching what you are eating at every meal. Watching film of yourself and other fighters. Arreola has none of that and this is the result.

“Why do 90percent of you guys even come on here because all i ever see is you complaining how rubbish all these fighters in all divisions are”

I’m not saying he is a better champion than Wladimar; let’s get that straight…I know that Wladimar is the RECOGNIZED champion of the world. His accomplishments speak for itself; what I disagree with and feel is unfair is that folks are pissed because these guys did not win the championship by fighting Vitali. That is not their fault. They do not control the ratings; all they do is fight; so why should their accomplishment be diminished just because of how all this played out??? I hope that Stiverne does fight Wladimar; I would love nothing more than to see one RECOGNIZED Champion….I would love to see that in boxing PERIOD!!!

Chatman you right stervine is a champion or title holder to be known after 2 defenses he must fight Waldimer though im glad bWare won however Assyria god said it right b ware needs comp no names on his ledger hmm..he will go in the history books though can he beat some of course Wilder fight is profitable and intriguing wilder better technical however bware smarter can he k.o. a giant ?imo No not in his favor wilder has been grommed for Klichko bware not enuff trailhorses and W.K. way to smart in the ring ala lewis vrs mercer

More like a chumpion. I just decided to establish my own boxing organization. I have some extra money and I will be organizing a title fight for the vacant WWB heavy weight title in Dubai, Saudi-Arabia. The fight will be between the number one ranked Deontay “bumber” Wilder and the number two ranked John “the silent man” Ruiz. Wladimir Klitschko isn’t ranked in my listings.

You become a champion by fighting for the title; Wladimar is the recognized champion so to become UNDISPUTED you must fight him; but like it or love it; he is champion as well now!!!!

Posted May 11, 2014 10:38 am

Shane Anonmosley

You become a champion only by beating Wladimir Klitschko.

You don’t have to like it; that’s your choice; but yes HE IS A CHAMPION NOW!!!!! Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean he isn’t a champion. I guess he forced Vitali into retirement right????? I guess he is the one who made him sit around forever and deciding whether he wanted to fight or defend the title right???? The show must go on…No one man is bigger than boxing….So get over it!!!!!

@Graeme…you make an excellent point. I felt it was a damn good fight; and congrats to Stiverne on becoming WBC Heavyweight Champion…it is not his fault that he did not win it from Vitali…Vitali sat around for a long time with the title without defending it and finally decided to retire…boxing stops for NO MAN so the show went on and now we have a new champion…hate it or love it!!!

Posted May 11, 2014 9:18 am

Why do 90percent of you guys even come on here because all i ever see is you complaining how rubbish all these fighters in all divisions are. As if your old enough to remember the good old days there have been several heavyweight eras that where undesirable have a look at Jack Dempsey’s record and see who he fought or Joe louis who is a favorite of mine. Trying to get a feeling of self worth and heightened importance by declaring its now like it used to be get a life and enjoy boxing for the now if not go watch MMA guys hugging lying on the floor

That was a ‘classic’ ??? hahahahaha what a joke.

Posted May 11, 2014 8:59 am

Once again outside of a klitschko dominated fight the action was decent just like the old days. It makes it clear that Wladimar is too dominant and that makes many think all others today are bums. Fact is when they are matched up with each other the fights areworth watching.

Posted May 11, 2014 8:37 am

Just wondering

Stiverne is a heavy handed and fast heavyweight, and now a champ. No point making all these predictions about fights with Vlad or Wilder. Or ya he is a counter puncher and looks like he honed that skill in Vegas recently….is there a gym there that has a fighter and trainers that helped him?

Posted May 11, 2014 8:05 am

another classic heavyweight battle. LMAO.

Posted May 11, 2014 7:42 am

So many butthurt fans up here. When was the last time you watch an action filled HW fight that didn’t resemble professional wrestling? Besides the Mago vs Perez fight, Steve Cunningham vs Mansour fight and David Chisora vs Haye fight.

Posted May 11, 2014 7:32 am

Klitschko is still miles ahead of any heavyweight. Two years from now Anthony Joshua will be ready to rule.

Arreola never showed any true dedication and commitment during his entire career. A true fighter does things the right way from the amateurs and the professional ranks. Boxing is not a sport wear you can decide whenever you want to do things the right way. All the other dedicated boxers are going to be way ahead of you by the time you decide to do things right. Arreola is a decent fighter, but his chin has been chipped away fight by fight, and he never had any defense. Tonight should close his career for good, but he won’t quit. he’s a tough guy that will be a punching bag for the top heavyweights.

Nobody knows how Wilder takes a puncher from a puncher, so we really cant say. We shall see.
