*TARK and B Red*

B Red – you got any martial arts skills? I’m pretty sure TARK does – why don’t you two compromise on a location and find a ring or deserted alley somewhere and get it on?

If that truly is your belief – that makes you a member of the large majority of posters here. Congratulations.

B Red…, Everyone knows you’re a moron. You kept telling everyone that Angulo was going to KO Canelo when he didn’t have a chance in HELL.

Plus, you sound like you never made it through the 6th grade, you ignorant putz.

CORRECTION…going to purse bid…

Posted March 14, 2014 10:02 pm

What a FOOL Fight Aficionado IS. The IBF mandated Hopkins to face Kovalev on a Monday and Hopkins SAID that he would take the Fight on that Wednesday. TARK is DUMMY on this subject TOO. Hopkins didn’t need to make Kovalev any offer because the Fight was going to pursue bid where Hopkins would get 75% and Kovalev would get 25% SO getting an offer from Hopkins was irrelevant.

The FACT remains that Hopkins was ready to face Kovalev and Kovalev DUCKED him. And everyone agreeing otherwise is no factor in that.

Ha ha ha yeah ok tark….who’s Kovalev fighting? Isn’t hopkins unifying again? Is Hopkins 50 yet? Kovalev, another GGG fighting the homeless.

Posted March 14, 2014 7:40 pm

I took Dawson against him… That’s a bet you take all day. Ward would beat Hopkins bloody… any time.

I would take Kovalev or Stevenson against Hopkins 9,000 times a day… B-Hop would have as much chance as a fart in a hurricane if he faced Sergei K.

Kovalev is the SHIZNIT…… against him at your own peril.

Right on Fight Aficionado… Hopkins didn’t want to fight Kovalev.

Bernard refused to negotiate in good faith… That fight was NEVER going to be made EVER!!!

Then unimaginably.. unbelievably.. Kovalev got a SERIOUS offer for a title shot against Nathan Cleverly—from Cleverly’s super naive team… Does Kovalev continue trying to negotiate with an obstructive Hopkins, who obviously would never fight???? Or do you take the serious title opportunity??? One where you get appropriate money and training expenses???

Hopkins’ non-offer to fight Kovalev reminded me of George Foreman’s non-offers to fight Mercer.. Bowe.. Tyson.. and McCAll … It was very clear that the only fights George really wanted were with Shulz.. Grimsley.. Saverese and guys like that.. They were all 2nd raters George could beat but not stop.. George threw one KO punch is his last 7 fights.. Bernard isn’t throwing ANY KO shots.. He’ll be lucky to beat the unknown “champ” he’s facing.

“Please learn to follow Boxing as closely as I DO. Hopkins accepted his mandatory against Kovalev but Kovalev ducked out of the slot. SO Hopkins took on Murat instead…” – BoxRetard is wrong as always. Bhop made no mention of Kovalev for several weeks after he was named his mandatory. Then on the eve of Kovalev’s announceemnt to fight Cleverly for another belt, Bhop’s camp quickly put out his own statement so that gullible tards would fall for it. BoxRetard and a few others did hook line in sinker.

Kovalev ducked the fight to face Cleverly period.

Posted March 14, 2014 12:07 pm

Braggadamus, regarding the Kovalev/Hopkins issue:

Perhaps you missed the statement in the first article for which you posted a link, it said, “Or they can finalize a deal for Kovalev to face titleholder Nathan Cleverly. That’s a fight HBO is pressing very hard for and one that it already has made a deal for on the Cleverly side and a date to air it — Aug. 17…”

And, “The reason for Showtime’s possible reluctance to put on Hopkins-Kovalev is because it is not heavily invested in the division and doesn’t have any future rights on Kovalev, so it wouldn’t want to build him up only to see him beat Hopkins and then go to HBO…”

So even if the IBF did designate Kovalev as Hopkins’ mandatory after Murat had visa problems, HBO and ShowTime weren’t prepared to make that fight happen. These two cable giants have a lot of clout over the boxing industry. Unless Hopkins and Kovalev wanted to fight on ESPN, this fight wasn’t happening–but NOT due to Kovalev ducking Hopkins.

Posted March 14, 2014 9:28 am

Nope. YOU’D better learn to read a little more closely. Kovalev was a NON CHAMP at the time. SO OF COURSE Hopkins would rather face a CHAMP in a Unification bout rather than to face a challenger. But Hopkins is not Kovalev’s promoter. What he suggests to Kovalev is irrelevant. The FACT remained that Kovalev had dibbs on Hopkins next Fight unless Hopkins fought in a Unification bout (which is the only way the IBF allows you to pass UP your mandatory without being stripped) but Kovalev was already uneager to face Hopkins SO he JUMPED at Hopkins suggestion instead of waiting it out and face the legend. In other words he DUCKED because Hopkins suggested that he duck even though Hopkins also SAID that he would honor the mandatory IF he couldn’t unify the belts….those are the FACTS.

Posted March 14, 2014 7:35 am

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. LionKing)

Please learn to read these articles before posting links and making a total buffoon of yourself, son. Hopkins was quoted as saying he WANTED his mandatory challenger (Kovalev) to go fight Cleverly because he preferred to try and get a fight with Adonis instead. So don’t you dare accuse Kovalev of ducking Ole Popkins when he’s on record admitting that he was avoiding his mandatory so he could sit around and WAIT for a bigger, better offer from Stevenson.

As I said, Kovalev is a stay-busy fighter and fighting Cleverly was a much quicker route to winning a major title than waiting around for Hopkins to finally accept, or duck, his mandatory. Hopkins explained it very clearly: he WANTED Kova to go fight Cleverly so he could WAIT around for an offer from Adonis. He was only considering Krusher a back-up option at that point. Popkins then committed to fighting Murat, thereby figuring out a very slick way to duck both Kovalev and Adonis at the same time. And now he’s chosen to fight Shumenov of all guys while talking loud B.S. every step of the way. WTF?

Posted March 14, 2014 5:27 am

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. LionKing)

Dan Rafael: “So while Hopkins WAITS to see what will happen, he made a suggestion — that Kovalev go fight Cleverly, and he would be happy to face new champ Adonis Stevenson, who drilled Chad Dawson to win the lineal title Hopkins used to hold. Stevenson said he was interested in fighting Hopkins after beating Dawson.”

B-Hop: “For me, it’s a no-brainer, the 48-year-old Hopkins said. Kovalev can go get Cleverly, I can probably get Adonis and we go head-to-head and give the fans the old Light Heavyweight battles they had in the late ’70 and ’80s, and then the winners can fight. It doesn’t seem complicated. Okay, maybe I’m being a little sarcastic…

If we can’t get that fight with Adonis, Kovalev is my mandatory. My promoter, Richard Schaefer, and Kathy Duva can start negotiating.”

Posted March 14, 2014 5:05 am

Again. Please learn to follow Boxing as closely as I DO. Hopkins accepted his mandatory against Kovalev but Kovalev ducked out of the slot. SO Hopkins took on Murat instead who filled the mandatory slot that Kovalev ducked out of.

Posted March 14, 2014 4:33 am

…and Jim Lampley agrees with ME on that.

Posted March 14, 2014 3:13 am

FACT: Kovalev had no reason to call out Hopkins because he was his mandatory which means that Hopkins
MUST face him whether he called Hopkins out or not. Also Hopkins still MUST face him whether he remained silent or not….or be stripped.

Kovalev analyzed the situation and realized that Cleverly was an EASIER WIN than Hopkins which equals an EASIER road to being CHAMP and he took it. I compliment him on his logic. But the FACT remains that he ducked OUT of his mandatory slot.

Posted March 14, 2014 3:13 am

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. LionKing)

FACTS: Kovalev called out Popkins in one of his post-fight interviews. Popkins went totally silent and didn’t respond until he heard from inside sources that Krusher was already engaged in deep negotiations with Cleverly. Kovalev is a stay-busy fighter and wasn’t about to wait 2-3 months for Popkins to muster up the courage to accept his challenge. Those are the FACTS and anyone who says different is either lying, misinformed, or both. Don’t believe me? Popkins still has every opportunity to call out Kovalev in the ring, after his next fight. If he calls him out, Krusher will make every accommodation to fight him ASAP. Real talk.

Posted March 14, 2014 2:30 am

Please learn more about Boxing. The IBF isn’t like the other sanctioning bodies that can be PAID off. They will STRIP their CHAMPION IF he refuses to make his mandatory defense. Obviously Hopkins was not stripped because as Jim Lampley stated, Kovalev turned down Hopkins to take on the WEAKEST CHAMP in the Division….Murat then became the next in line mandatory SO Hopkins took him on and defeated him.

Posted March 14, 2014 2:26 am

Jim Lampley at end of Cleverly Fight…

“Kovalev turns down the opportunity to wait as a mandatory for a Fight with Bernard Hopkins. Takes short money to go across the Atlantic to challenge Nathan Cleverly on his home turf and knocks him OUT”

Posted March 14, 2014 2:21 am

When Kovalev was Hopkins’ mandatory, Hopkins refused to fight him, so Kovalev went into Cleverly’s home turf and stopped him, therefore winning the WBO title. Kovalev called Hopkins out. Hopkins said he would never fight Kovalev or Stevenson……………

Posted March 14, 2014 1:14 am

Kovelev has been avoiding jack Dempsey my boyfriends say, he also is avoiding Harry Houdini.

Bhop would assume his position in a rebound and rebut in cognitive corhefxhion in the latter rounds kovelev will pop the pingo in the dingy and tap the stank.

That however is merely a predatory prediction of numeric numbness and astutely analytical analysis, so don’t quote me on thd stabilizes of refraction.

Nope. I make TOO many GREAT picks to be worried about the bad ones…

MY disciples try to emulate ME but they fall short of their idol like many disciples DO. Christians fall short of emulating Christ. Kobe fell short of emulating Jordan. Broner fell short of emulating Floyd. And MY disciple falls short of emulating ME. GOOD try though. And I ENCOURAGE them to KEEP trying….no matter WHAT you DO. Never give UP!

Posted March 13, 2014 8:01 pm

Boxtra.., You don’t have any disciples.

That’s you pretending to be a disciple — so you have somebody to blame for all your bad picks.

Posted March 13, 2014 7:45 pm

Kovalev would KO Hopkins. He would get him out. 100%

He would flatten Stevenson too… but not as fast.

Posted March 13, 2014 7:42 pm

NICE prediction MY disciple but the FACT is that Kovalev ducked his chance to face Hopkins. Now he has to wait in line. I DO predict a WIN by Kovalev for the first stoppage LOSS of Hopkins career.

Posted March 13, 2014 7:37 pm

Kovalev is not Gerald McClellan gee wihiz…. He has a stronger stance, a better jab, he’s a better defender, and punches harder. He’s even quicker.

He’s a little like a big Nonito Donaire, but he jabs better and is more aggressive. Maybe Michael Spinks is a good comparison. He’s looser and more relaxed; and not as powerful through the shoulders and chest as Spinks.

Style wise, maybe Mikey Garcia. Because all his weapons are real good, his fundamentals are strong, and he stays on your case without letup… but not Gerald McClellan OMG.

Posted March 13, 2014 7:36 pm

Kovalev would not KO Bernard Hopkins, but he might likely kill him. BH will never ever get in the ring with the krusher.

Posted March 13, 2014 7:21 pm

There should be more stories on the true No.1 in the LHW division and future P4P No.1, Sergei ‘Krusher’ Kovalev. Every decent LHW contender and champ is ducking him.

Posted March 13, 2014 7:20 pm

Agnew won a majority decision against 21-39 Zack Page. He has 2 wins over a fighter named David Robinson with a 26-63 record. Based on his competition, he has no chance against Kovalev

Posted March 13, 2014 6:39 pm

What a fighter Kovalev is, He reminds me of Gerald McLellan, a high volume puncher with pulverising power and killer instincts

Posted March 13, 2014 5:38 pm

Al Hayman

Kovalev is THE man at LHW.

Posted March 13, 2014 3:58 pm

And Slim Just Left Town

On paper it looks like another blowout by Kovalev, but strange things can happen in the ring and if nothing else, Agnew has a solid defense that might enable him to take the Russian into the late rounds. In the fight with Cleverly, Kova had trouble landing any clean shots past the tight guard of the Welshman until the last seconds of the 3rd round when Cleverly finally caved. Somebody is eventually going to get to this 3 round fighter and expose his lack of stamina. Whether Cedric Agnew is the guy or not remains to be seen.

Kovalev is MY Top rated LHW at the moment but that is until PRINCE Ward arrives.

Hidalg0 I hope you’re right about the money just being a negotiating ploy. But Kovalev is not at all scared of Stevenson. He called him out after his last fight and Stevenson immediately started stalling.

Posted March 13, 2014 2:57 pm

Sergey Kovalev is gonna ko Agnew, but Agnew can go a few rounds. Kovalev gotta keep his eye on the ball and his eyes on the prize…Adonis Stevenson and Bernard Hopkins are trying to avoid him…

Posted March 13, 2014 2:21 pm

Kovalev would knock Hopkins stiff…

Posted March 13, 2014 2:16 pm

big head

agnew might not got the best looking resume but he a talented fighter with good skills he not no cab driver or bum the guy can fight and he was a good amateur i think he going to give kovalev a good test maybe even get the upset if kovalev is looking past him which im sure he not the way he keep mention stevenson seem like he is looking past this fight a lil bit kovalev is a beast and it hard to go against him but like i said before agnew going to give him a challenge and be competive he got the style to do it and defense we see what happens

Posted March 13, 2014 2:07 pm

Well since Stevenson is the champ, I can see him wanting to get paid. Especially for a fight that will do very well were ever it is held at

Posted March 13, 2014 2:00 pm

Excuse me, Stevenson has two UD wins on his record, Kovalev has one UD win on his.

Posted March 13, 2014 1:58 pm

Fight Aficianado, Stevenson, like Kovalev has stopped or KOd everyone he has fought except for his one loss against Darnell Boone which he avenged last year by KO. Kovalev has just as much to fear from Adonis as Adonis does from him. A Stevenson/Kovalev bout would be a big fight. Makes sense that Stevenson wants good money to make it happen.

Posted March 13, 2014 1:56 pm

Fight Aficionado

Stevenson is still making speeches about how the money has to be right in order to fight Kovalev. Note Krusher hasn’t griped about money he just wants to fight.

Posted March 13, 2014 1:49 pm

Not sure Agnew is much of a challenge for Kovalev. Agnew hasn’t beaten anyone of note except Mack who lost five of his last eight fights and Mack was stopped in three of those fights.

Posted March 13, 2014 12:58 pm

Fact is Hopkins has been talking about unifying the belts. He wasn’t going to give his belt up. Now I am not saying Kovalev ran from Hopkins, I think he went the easiest rout to pick up a belt and have better negotiating power at the table. But he was the mandatory and could of easily taken that up and fought Hopkins. All this they didn’t think Hopkins was serious is crazy talk. They could of easily went to purse bid and if Hopkins was just all talk and not serious then the belt would of been stripped and he could of taken the next contender for the belt.

Posted March 13, 2014 11:38 am

big moe, That is a flat out lie. Hopkins was not interested in getting in the ring with Kovalev, he was only interested in having people like you be able to say that he was. There is next to zero chance of Hopkins ever fighting Kovalev as Bernard knows that he would be knocked cold.

Posted March 13, 2014 11:33 am

should be exciting while it lasts. Agnew has not fought at this level. mismatch.
