Fight Aficionado

LOL what’s the point of this story other than to suck Andre’s balls? When’s his next fight? How’s his shoulder doing? WHO NEX?

Posted September 4, 2013 4:23 pm

Hey guys when Andre Ward actually does something besides nothing let me know so I can tape it. Ward needs to learn anything about what a KO is.

Posted September 3, 2013 11:44 pm

p-EEJ I told you that the 168 div was the weakest as an individual number meaning comparing the 168div to the 168 divisions over the past decades. Also, I have nothing against Ward but your not going to sell this guys fight record as something great. We really dont know how good ward is because he hand picks opponents and the only period that noted anything about him was the super 6 which was a ploy to boost a weak div and it still is.

Joe Calzaghe’s first 5 years as champion:

w rsf 3 Branko Sobot, January 1998
w rtd 9 Juan Carlos Gimenez, April 1998
w pts 12 Robin Reid, February 1999 – most though he lost that fight.
w pts 12 Rick Thornberry, June 1999 – Australian Thornberry had been stopped in five rounds to Henry Warton in a previous visit to the UK but took Calzaghe the distance…
w pts 12 David Starie, January 2000 – The styles just didn’t gel and the resulting maul hurt Calzaghe’s credibility…
w rsf 5 Omar Sheika, August 2000 – sheika had nearly stopped Jeff Lacy a few years later, in 2004!!!!!
w rsf 10 Richie Woodhall, December 2000 – Woodhall was coming off a loss to Markus Beyer in his last major bout where he got dropped three times in the opening round…
w ko 1 Mario Veit, April 2001 – Veit was exposed, despite his 30-0 record (He now has 50 fights and 2 losses to Joe)
w ko 4 Will McIntyre, October 2001 – McIntyre’s last three opponents before his title chance v Joe had a combined record of 35-35-5… a wretched mismatch…

w pts 12 Charles Brewer, April 2002 –

Former IBF champion Brewer turned pro in 1989 and had seen better days by the time he travelled to Wales to face Calzaghe… Brewer was 2-2 in his last four going in…I expected Joe to blast him out, quite honestly, as this was half a decade on from Brewer’s shaky performance against aged non-puncher Herol Graham… nevertheless, Brewer took everything Joe threw at him and, while Calzaghe was a clear points winner, it was a good brawl..

w pts 12 Miguel Angel Jimenez, August 2002 – five years into his reign as WBO champ Calzaghe looked bored here…Jimenez lost his next fight to Brian Magee and hasn’t fought since…

w ko 2 Tocker Pudwill, December 2002 – Dubbed ‘Captain Pugwash’ by Sky Sport commentator, Pigswill (whatever) was a totally undeserving world title challenger when he fought Sven Ottke in 2000 and was even less deserving of this second shot here… Pugwash’s last three opponents before this farce were 28-187-6 combined!… even though Pugwash was a two-week replacement, this was poor, poor, poor…

These are not MY WORDS, but taken from SECOND OUT.COM ARCHIVE which you can google for yourself….

So, in his first 5 years Joe only fought Reid, Woodhall and shopworn Charles Brewer…..

Which was his defining fight in his first 5 years as champion? Reid, should be marked up as an L.

Seriously, no one knew who Joe was outside of Newbridge and hardcore boxing fans…. The talk was all of Naz, Ricky and other fighters. Even Fr@nk has admitted this!!

You are wrong. They are not looking to move up for another year. GGG has already said there not looking to fight Ward for at least another year. By that time Ward will be a light heavy fighting bigger, stronger fighters

Posted September 1, 2013 10:04 pm

I see Good

Andre Ward is a good fighter and a CHAMPION at this time. but theres a GUY by the name of GGG that wants to meet Andre in the ring. OH I forgot it will be another Mayweather story RUN RUN RUN

Posted September 1, 2013 8:28 pm

So I guess you can’t answer that question Jake?

Posted September 1, 2013 8:07 pm

I hate his style, its one if not thee most difficult style to beat, he uses his opponents style against them, very hard to beat that even though it looks awful to the spectators, he should be called Andre “the Chameleon” Ward.

Posted September 1, 2013 6:08 pm

I felt that way about Dawson fight as well. Dawson did beat B-hop who gave him multiple head butts. But against Ward he really could do anything and finally just gave up.

But I still see Ward as a special fighter.

Posted September 1, 2013 4:42 pm

Jake like I said name me another division that is hotter with a bunch of undefeated fighters. Is he on those guys level yet, no, he still has his career right now. You don’t need that defining fight to make it to the hall if you are better than everybody else. Roy made every fight easy. He never had a defining fight. He only started struggling when he moved back dwon form heavy. Having a defining fight does not get you in the hall of fame. You career is what gets you there. And yes Ward is a damn good fighter. He is the best at 168. Dawson said he could make 168. He said there were no problems making 168 till he lost. Doesn’t matter at what weight they fought at, Ward would of taken care of Dawson.

Posted September 1, 2013 4:02 pm

Koolz. This is not hate at all. If a fighter deserves the titles of the best, then im all for it. Ward does not deserve that for beating Dawson who took that fight for money, knowing he was not going to lose anything. Everyone knew that was an easy fight because Dawson is horrible at 168 and that is just a known fact. You want to give Ward who was the winner of a very awful and structured tourney and then the Dawson fight and that makes up your fighter. Geeeze c-mon, and in that tourney only fought at home. Hey you can have em,

Posted September 1, 2013 3:35 pm

timmy DD doyle

Wow. YOu KKnow. Ward is always a hot topic because he is a champ who really hasnt done anything. We watched the DAWSON fight and dawson looked nothing like he is at his natural fight weight.

Ward was hand held all the way through right to this point. I agree with the board, ward is horrible to watch and he has no power and I mean none. Ward couldnt KO a drunk man passed out on the beach………………..#####

Posted September 1, 2013 3:31 pm

Is there a reason you hate Ward so much?

you sound like that Woop Woop guy.

Posted September 1, 2013 3:30 pm

peej; let me ask this of you, ward is champion. and lets look at champions, at their primes; james toney, roy jones jr, b-hop , joe calzage- how does ward fit in with jus the few I named. these guys had super fights, hall of fame rounds these guys put boxers in shock and they were destructive in there first 5 years. Ward is nowhere near any of this. What was ward’s super fight that leads us to the hall of fame, what was Wards defining moment Kessler who was already a beaten champ, who bika or green who were garbadge, how bout miranda who was on his way out, you explain this to me, who in the 168 is hall of fame bound, who in the 168 was anything of a big name , who Froch. give me a break. Will you offer– Dawson as somebody , sucked up Dawson who ward’s camp would only fight if he came down a weight. Name me one fight worth anything to look forward to for viewing 15 years from now,,,,,,,,,,, 1

Posted September 1, 2013 3:26 pm

Yes it is one of the strongest. Ok what weight class has a bunch of fighters that are undefeated, rated, have titles or a championship belt around there waiste? I’d like to know that. Froch is a beast, Kessler is a best. Rodriguez is good, they now have Chavez, Bika is good, Groves who is decent oh and the Champion Ward. After this year Ward will probably be moving up. So please let me know which division is the toughest division with a bunch of undefeated fighters because apparently to you you have to be undefeated to be considered good.

Posted September 1, 2013 2:17 pm

sorry I mean weight , not wait….stupid thinking there.

Posted September 1, 2013 1:34 pm

That’s interesting with Ward moving up wait next year I could see Golovkin doing that as well. At his current wait class Golovkin has no challengers.

For Ward I could see a fight with Kovalev in the future if he moves up or even Steveson.

Would be very exciting fights!

Posted September 1, 2013 1:33 pm

He cleaned out 168. One of the toughest divisions. If he has the same mentality as Floyd then he will become a great fighter. Need to learn more about boxing.

Posted September 1, 2013 1:02 pm

Ward is a bore and his record is a joke. Ward’s only fight worth a name was Dawson who was at an unhealthy weight. Ward has the mentality of mayweather, run away from what needs to be done, sell what we can to protect a blemished zero. Ward hand picks to keep winning. Ward was nobody for 5 years after the win in the olympics and winning the super slug 6 meant diddly.

Posted September 1, 2013 12:56 pm

Problem with waiting is that I think Ward will be moving up with in the next year

Posted September 1, 2013 12:34 pm

Ward is so special as a boxer that Golovkin’s team and his trainer Sanchez chose to wait to fight him till next year. Though Golovkin is ready now Sanchez still thinks it’s best to wait.

That is how great Ward is. Is the Super Champion. The guy beat everyone in his division already.

Just because he hasn’t fought in a while do to shoulder surgery does not make him in any less.

Posted September 1, 2013 11:39 am

As far as Rodriguez is concerned, it would be better to lose against Ward than to lose against any other boxer at 168. Losing to a Champion, there is no shame to that. If he where to lose against Bika, he would have a problem.

Posted September 1, 2013 9:56 am

Wards resume is a damn good if not great resume. You can talk all you want about fighters having an L but that means nothing when they come back. Pac did it, Hopkins did it, Lewis did it, Wlad did it. Just because you have an L on your record does not mean you suck. Kessler and Froch both have Ls. Yall are just upset at how easy it is for Ward to win or atleast how easy he made it look. Dawson would of gotten beat at any weight with Ward. And Ward does not need to travel anywhere, he is the World Champion and both Kessler and Froch said they really didn’t care to have a rematch.

Posted September 1, 2013 9:55 am

Woop Woop

I guess a “throng” and a “long line” equates to 10-20 people now. Ward can’t draw flies to crap and is the biggest hometown joke in boxing. Get a passport, travel to another continent and win back your belts. This is what real champions and men are made of. Leave those hometown refs and judges behind, stand on your own 2 feet for a change. What a cowardly boxing role model.

Posted August 31, 2013 10:41 pm

Ward ward ward. You guys made this guy some great fighter but really now. Ward one a medal then what, winner of a weak tourny then Dawson. Oh boy gotta do better than that for this p4p list really give me a break. And how the heck is this guy better on the list than a guy like guillermo rigondeaux who beat donaire. Anyone please help me here. toe up

Posted August 31, 2013 10:11 pm

Jipsee Sixks

Get real guys. As said, Andre Ward is Empire State Buildings above Edwin Rodriguez, who himself is a fine boxer. Ward seems to want recognition and although he’s beat the guy, Carl Froch in England must be $3million guaranteed for Andre and team.

Posted August 31, 2013 9:38 pm

Ward’s record is a bust, his wins are a bust, he bores us all with his no power run aroungdthe ring BS. pound for pound what? Weak sauce ladies.

Posted August 31, 2013 7:54 pm

Jake that is hard notes my man , but iii gotta say spot on when you talk about a horrible list of opponents with all with a number in the L column. Ward did nothing for years and the super 6 was a super bust. Ward dominated the worse div talent wise in decades and for him it worked out well. For US we have a paper champ who got a title in Oakland where they would had never allowed kessler to win.

Posted August 31, 2013 6:30 pm

Added, Ward’s fight against kessler was awful to watch and besides Ward has gotten away with every foul there is. Ward is a bore to watch and has the KO power of a corpse. When Ward really does somehting let us all know, but you will have to wake me up from a deep sleep to do so

Posted August 31, 2013 6:23 pm

Andre Ward beat sucked up Dawson, who everyone knows would had beat Ward at his natural champion weight. Too, Ward’s records holds fighters who had already been beaten way before the super 6. Last note, what has Ward has dudes like bika, green and froch on his record what the heck is that. You call this guy P4p JOKE

Posted August 31, 2013 6:21 pm

I dont get Ward. P4P sure, but almost completley unknown outside hardcore fans. Fights only in his backyard where he might draw 5500 paying fans. 1 fight in 3 years and reduced to fighting weight drained or maybe bloated middles, but two of the biggests fights in the world are there if he wants them. He can fight Froch in England or Kessler in Denmark, both in front 50,000 and get the majority share of the money. Sure he`s beaten both, but the kudos for beating them in their own countries would be huge. Strange guy.

Posted August 31, 2013 5:42 pm

Big Al

peej, you’re right about what edwin stands to lose if he takes another fight. he leaves a lot of money on the table. but i imagine too that he’s thinking about his future and trying to map out a career. nowadays being undefeated means more money and leverage in negotiations, so edwin’s probably thinking if i take the quick bucks now i lose my 0 and have to go back to the drawing board for another couple of years to get to the point i’m at now. however, if i ask for more and still lose, it’ll be worth it. or, i could fight bika for less now, hope that i win because i’m a young contender and improving with each fight and make more money in defenses later and ultimately more money than ward offered. options, options, options.

i think the reason why ward is going on the offensive and pressuring edwin in the media is because his situation is a little desperate. he’s been out for long time, all known opponents are busy for the rest of the year, he lost in court to have his contract with goossen voided, and hbo just told him they’re not paying him 3mil+ to fight some tomato can. wards options are slim compared to edwin, so has to give in or no good fights until early to mid 2014. if you read wards recent media rants, his frustration and bitterness and desperation definitely come out.

Posted August 31, 2013 4:56 pm

Yep and still is the Champion at 168. Unfortunately he has gotten injured a lot ever since bringing in Conte along with every other fighter that uses or used Conte

Posted August 31, 2013 4:39 pm

I remember Andre Ward. Didn’t he used to be a boxer?

Posted August 31, 2013 4:30 pm

Well I don’t know about all that. But he is definitely gonna take less against Bika. And Bika is a tough tough fight. Being the mandatory is nice but if this fight goes to purse bid he probly won’t make more than 200 on the fight

Posted August 31, 2013 4:24 pm

Big Al

I’m not a pro agent, but even I can see how petty Ward is being. Edwin just made 600k, so his purses will increase over time and he’ll eventually get to 800k even without Ward, so its just a matter of being patient.

Plus, since he just signed with Haymon, Edwin instantly became the mandatory for Bika’s WBC. Is that a result of crooked politics behind the scenes? Probably, but if Edwin wins the WBC title than he’s already reached that 800k mark or passes it with each defense afterward without ever facing Ward.

If Ward wants a legitimate opponent, he’s got be realistic and throw Edwin a bone. Ward took lower money for his first title shot, but he was guaranteed 3-4 fights in the tournament, full Showtime exposure, and every hometown advantage. So you tell me, is he really being honest and upfront?

Also, when he offered Edwin 800k, he also said he wants to keep 100% of all foreign viewership revenue and 100% of the live gate. Oh, and of course he’s going to get hometown advantage AGAIN. This guy Ward is as dirty a negotiator as he is a fighter.

Posted August 31, 2013 4:15 pm

If he becomes the mandatory he is only guaranteed 25%. Which means if someone bids a mil or 2 he is only gonna get 250 or 500. No way someone bids 3 mil

Posted August 31, 2013 3:54 pm

Well Ward fought for less in winning his title against Kessler and then in his first defense. So he made chump change also. Rodriguez has been fighting on ESPN and undercards. Not to mention hasn’t really had much exposure I. The US. 800 may be considered chump change to fighters making a mil or more but for someone who has only made a half mil once, you got to earn your pay and he hasn’t done it

Posted August 31, 2013 3:53 pm

Big Al

That may be, but if Ward keeps acting a foo then the fight won’t even get made.

Tired of all these fighters that all of a sudden think they’re savvy business men. They just need to know how manage their money so their not bumming around when they retire.

Posted August 31, 2013 3:48 pm

Jipsee Sixks

Ward destroys Rodriguez.

Posted August 31, 2013 3:29 pm

Big Al

Edwin would do better to wait until he’s mandatory so Ward would have no choice but to make the fight under better terms for Edwin or risk losing his title. Edwin could also fight Bika, win the WBC belt if he gets by, and then still make what Ward’s offering later down the line with more defenses anyway — only without Ward in the picture. Simply put: Ward feels he’s entitled to P4P#2 kind of money, without bringing in P4P#2 kind of viewership.

Posted August 31, 2013 3:25 pm

PEEJ.., That’s chump change.. Considering Rodriguez would have to pay for all training expenses out of the 800,000.. If he wants to pull in really great sparring and camp personnel he won’t have much left for himself. He’s being starved out.

The total pie for Edwin and Andre is only 3 million, so Edwin needs at least 1.2 of that to have anything left for himself. Andre is better known but not a fabulous draw … He shouild get the lion’s share but not 2.2 million. 1.8 is pretty generous.

Or he can become the mandatory and get an even lower offer for the fight from the purse bid

Posted August 31, 2013 1:56 pm

Does not matter. Ward is the champ at 168 and he sells preset good in Oakland. So if he wants to fight for the championship 800 grand ain’t bad. He can make more if he wins the championship

Posted August 31, 2013 1:55 pm

Jipsee Sixks, I never talked about you being a troll. If you I had thought so, I wouldn’t have answered to your posting. But there are so many postings here like the Tark imposter, sometimes Gonzo (maybe an imposter, too), and others. They are not hard to miss, so you must know what I’m writing about. A lot of veterans have left here because of this bs, so if ESB is interested in keeping the boxing fans around, they need to act. If not, it’s byebye and the trolls will follow to boxingscene and elsewhere – in some cases they will find out that they will simply be deleted, which is the right way to handle them.

Peej, many people may not know who Edwin Rodriguez is, but Ward doesn’t beat him in a popularity contest by much either. It takes two to make a fight, and if HBO is willing to put up so much money, there should be enough to go around. No need to lowball people and be greedy. Rodriguez’ last payday was 600k, so he’s already in the ballpark even without Ward. Reportedly, HBO offered 3mil +, so Edwin’s cut woulda been maybe 24-25%. Ward can do better than that. And it’s a given that he’ll get hometown advantage w/ all CA refs. How much more does he feel entitled too?

Posted August 31, 2013 1:23 pm

@Jipsee Sixks
I’m with Konje on moderation of the postings. The trolling here is getting ridiculous, and some of them are so obvious and have nothing to do with boxing. If they want to turn this into a boxing-centered website again, they need to get rid of the trolls (although I think it’s only a few trolls with lots of nicknames).

And about GGG vs. Ward: This would be a great test for Ward, but I think he would win a UD. He is slick enough to avoid GGG’s bomb. But TripleG could call out Froch, THAT would be a big fight. Both men throwing bombs and both aggressive fighters. I’d pay quite a bit to see this happen!

If Ward really wants to go down as a great, he beats Kovalev. At this point I see the Russian connecting and ending it but it’s too early to say he could take the justifiable P4P number two in Andre Ward.

Ward – Hopkins. Title it: ‘Goodnight Insomnia: Christian vs Muslim: There Can Only Be One God. And He’s Male and American.’ And stage it in Saudi Arabia with Don King promoting (who incidentally finally dies on the day of the fight, coincidentally the same day Bob Arum is raped by a loose hyena, and dies later, and goes to boxing hell, with Don.

Posted August 31, 2013 10:10 am

Ward is the best @168, although yes, he is not exciting to watch because he is an intelligent boxer, not a street mugger. He cleaned out the division, so a move up to 175 lbs. could make sense.

Posted August 31, 2013 10:04 am

He offered Edwin his highest payday with 800 thousand. That is not chump change. Not many people know who Edwin is. And just like Ward said he fought for less in his first title bout and in his first defense of the title. Not to mention Ward is the champion. Funny how when it comes to certain fighters they say money shouldn’t matter but then when it comes to other fighters it does matter.

Posted August 31, 2013 9:54 am

I think he should move up to 175 , he’s fought all the top 168’s nothing left there and no one wants him he’d put a glass eye to sleep, there’s lots to do at 175 for him.

If Ward’s serious about gaining credibility & making a lot of ca$h then he should travel to Germany, take out Stieglitz, then move on to England & sound out the winner of Froch/Groves.
